With the development of the nuclear energy industry, small modular reactors (SMRs) have become an important option in China's energy development due to their advantages in terms of safety and economics. The helical-coil steam generator is an important part of SMR, and the structure parameters need to be optimized urgently to reduce costs and improve safety. In this paper, various thermohydraulic parameters were used as indicators for the design quality of the helical-coil steam generator, such as the volume of the equipment, velocity of the flow, maximum temperature of the tubes, and natural circulation capability. The optimization of these target parameters has important theoretical and practical values. The genetic algorithm method is widely used to processes data efficiently, and it is able to reach a optimum design rapidly, which makes it a good choice for the optimization of parameters. The results show that this method could efficiently reduce the volume of the helical coil steam generator. © 2020 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). All rights reserved.

Magnetically controlled topological braiding with Majorana corner states in second-order topological superconductors

We theoretically investigate the electronic properties of finite-sized (e.g., triangular and diamond-shaped) Kane-Mele-type topological insulator nanoflakes on top of an s-wave superconductor. We find that the second-order topological superconductor can be generated when the magnetism is only applied on the system boundaries, which host two Majorana corner states located at the corners of two neighboring boundaries. By tuning the applied boundary magnetism, we observe that two isolated Majorana corner states can be adiabatically moved along the system boundaries. Furthermore, we show the possibility of performing topological quantum braiding of the Majorana corner states towards the far-reaching implications of quantum information and quantum computation.

Object pose refinement is essential for robust object pose estimation. Previous work has made significant progress to-wards instance-level object pose refinement. Yet, category-level pose refinement is a more challenging problem due to large shape variations within a category and the discrep-ancies between the target object and the shape prior. To address these challenges, we introduce a novel architecture for category-level object pose refinement. Our approach in-tegrates an HS-Iayer and learnable affine transformations, which aims to enhance the extraction and alignment of Geometric information. Additionally, we introduce a cross-cloud transformation mechanism that efficiently merges di-verse data sources. Finally, we push the limits of our model by incorporating the shape prior information for translation and size error prediction. We conducted extensive ex-periments to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework. Through extensive quantitative experiments, we demonstrate significant improvement over the baseline method by a large margin across all metrics. 1 1 Project page: https://***/***

Soft manipulator is a prominent research area in the field of soft robotics, but designing a soft manipulator capable of serving human life remains challenging, facing issues such as low motion robustness and poor accuracy. The trunk of an elephant, a unique biological tissue in nature, is characterized by its flexibility, strong load-bearing capacity, and dexterous yet soft tip, distinct from skeletal-dependent movements. Inspired by the thrust-deformation mechanism of the elephant trunk under multi-muscle action, this paper reports a novel composite tendon and pneumatic hybrid-driven tapered soft manipulator that mimics the multi-muscle action of the elephant trunk. In the design, a common Bowden tube is introduced as an artificial tendon to simulate the thrust of elephant trunk muscles. This paper first establishes an equivalent finite element model for Bowden tube tendons, along with an exploration of the impact of constraint ring distribution intervals on tendon buckling during thrust generation. This paper also establishes a finite element model for the entire experimental prototype, validating the effectiveness of Bowden tendon tension and thrust and demonstrating the large deformation curvature and flexible motion space of the soft manipulator. Finally, the paper experimentally tests the stability of repetitive motion, load-bearing capacity, and safety of active softening contact with humans of the soft manipulator, demonstrating that this biomimetic design exhibits not only flexibility and agility but also robustness in motion and precision in accuracy, closely resembling the capabilities of an elephant trunk, and holds promise as flexible supernumerary robotic limbs for mobile or humanoid robots. © 2024, The Authors. To address abnormal situations such as packaging damage, liquid leakage, and item displacement during logistics package transportation, this paper introduces Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and image recognition technology to achieve real-time anomaly detection and alarm, improving the response speed and accuracy of the logistics system. First, by designing multiple layers of convolution and pooling layers, adding Batch Normalization layers and Dropout layers to prevent overfitting, a CNN deep learning model suitable for logistics package anomaly detection is constructed. key features are extracted through image preprocessing methods such as normalization and data enhancement to ensure that the model has high recognition adaptability to various abnormal situations such as damage and leakage. Secondly, through data enhancement methods such as rotation, scaling, brightness adjustment, and transfer learning using pre-trained models, the model's adaptability in different lighting, angles, and occlusion conditions is improved. Finally, the model is applied to actual monitoring, and real-time alarms are issued for abnormalities such as damage and leakage, which are then fed back to the system closed-loop management. This method is significantly better than traditional methods in terms of detection accuracy and response speed. Under natural light environment, the model detection accuracy is as high as 98.4%, reducing false positives and false negatives. Combining CNN's anomaly detection technology effectively improves the accuracy and efficiency of logistics monitoring and provides technical support for intelligent logistics management.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has been considered a key feature of next-generation wireless networks. This paper investigates the joint design of the radar receive filter and dual-functional transmit waveform for the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) ISAC system. While optimizing the mean square error (MSE) of the radar receive spatial response and maximizing the achievable rate at the communication receiver, besides the constraints of full-power radar receiving filter and unimodular transmit sequence, we control the maximum range sidelobe level, which is often overlooked in existing ISAC waveform design literature, for better radar imaging performance. To solve the formulated optimization problem with convex and nonconvex constraints, we propose an inexact augmented Lagrangian method (ALM) algorithm. For each subproblem in the proposed inexact ALM algorithm, we custom-design a block successive upper-bound minimization (BSUM) scheme with closed-form solutions for all blocks of variable to enhance the computational efficiency. Convergence analysis shows that the proposed algorithm is guaranteed to provide a stationary and feasible solution. Extensive simulations are performed to investigate the impact of different system parameters on communication and radar imaging performance. Metaverse is an immersive, seamless, interactive, comprehensive virtual world, as well as a replication, extension, and transcendence of the real world. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled mobile edge computing (MEC) is becoming a key technology for ubiquitous Metaverse services. To enhance network resource utilization, we introduce dual connectivity (DC) technologies in UAV-enabled MEC, which increases the time complexity associated with resource management. Considering the specific features of DC communication channels, we propose a UAV-assisted Metaverse rendering problem to enhance the Metaverse service experience and reduce the energy cost of edge devices. To solve the rendering problem with low complexity, we propose a diffusion model-based Metaverse rendering algorithm, where a novel diffusion model is used to generate integer rendering decisions with the aid of the gradient provided by the model-based Metaverse rendering problem. Moreover, with the given rendering decisions, the communication and computation resource allocation results are derived by the model-based optimization method. Finally, we conduct extensive simulation experiments based on real-world datasets. Comprehensive simulation results demonstrate that the diffusion model-based Metaverse rendering algorithm can reduce the Metaverse frame rendering time and improve user experience.

As the storage and I/O demand of contemporary computer systems grow, SSDs with deduplication are widely deployed as shared storage devices to provide high performance in cloud platforms where diverse tenant workloads are collocated. However, existing global and fixed fingerprint management schemes are inefficient in the multi-tenant environment. Contention for in-memory fingerprint cache, embedded in DRAM to speed up fingerprint lookups, results in decreased cache utilization, and abundant fingerprint lookups into the backend flash memory degrade the system performance. Besides, a fixed cache replacement policy for all the tenants fails to capture the diverse characteristics, further increasing the lookup *** paper introduces CostFM, a novel fingerprint management mechanism highlighted by two notable features. First, it provides a benefit-aware cache allocation scheme, which estimates the cache hit gains of each tenant and uses dynamic programming to find the optimal cache allocation scheme, avoiding the cache contention for the fingerprint resource and improving cache utilization. Second, it applies a user-based policy model that captures access characteristics to select the suitable cache management policy for each tenant, boosting overall cache efficiency. Extensive experimental results show that CostFM decreases the average request latency by up to 30%, and it also reduces the fingerprint writes into the flash memory by up to 4.7x.

Aspiration performance (K/Reff) is a crucial performance indicator of the wick. However, it is difficult to enhance the permeability (K) and capillary force (1/Reff) at the same time. A wick with a grooved and porous hybrid structure was fabricated using Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) to achieve superior liquid absorption performance. The grooved structure ensures excellent permeability (K), while the porous structure offers a high capillary force (1/Reff), which is further enhanced by the corner flow effect. The optimal structure, featuring a 0.6 mm square channel and 70.99% porosity, achieved an ultra-high liquid absorption performance of 3.24×10-6 m, which is 106.3% higher than the previously reported best value. This study introduces a novel design concept and preparation method for high-performance heat pipes. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Emerging Zoned Namespace (ZNS) SSDs provide hosts with fine-grained, performance-predictable storage management. The ZNS SSD divides its address space into zones, and each zone must be written sequentially and cannot be overwritten. However, the write constraint results in frequent small modifications of file metadata to record the latest logical block addresses of the updated data blocks, increasing the overhead of fsync() system call. We comprehensively analyze the metadata overhead of fsync on a real ZNS SSD and find that (1) the update size of most metadata blocks (e.g., tens of bytes) is far less than the IO unit of the zone (e.g., 4 KiB), and frequent fsyncs cause severe metadata write amplification; (2) metadata block IOs significantly increase the fsync latency, decreasing the throughput of *** reduce the metadata overhead of fsync, we build the byte-loggable zone based on the persistent write cache of the opened zone, a novel extension of ZNS, which can be appended at byte granularity instead of block. Based on the byte-loggable zone, we present BlzFS, a high-performance and crash-consistent file system for ZNS SSD. Firstly, BlzFS maintains the update ranges of the metadata block by the update bitmap. Secondly, BlzFS ensures the persistence and consistency of metadata by logging the partial updates of metadata blocks to the device’s byte-loggable zone. Finally, BlzFS restores metadata consistency by replaying the metadata update log and scanning the list of recent allocated metadata blocks. In the evaluation, BlzFS shows a 33.5%∼96.1% reduction in metadata write traffic and a 1.37×∼1.91× throughput improvement compared with the original ZNS storage system.
