In this paper, an implementation of the complex-frequency-shifted perfectly matched layer (CPML) is developed for three-dimensional hybrid implicit-explicit (HIE) finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method based on auxiliary differential equation (ADE). Because of the use of the ADE technique, this method becomes more straightforward and easier to implement. The formulations for the HIE-FDTD CPML are proposed. Numerical examples are given to verify the validity of the presented method. Results show that, both HIE-CPML and FDTD-CPML have almost the same reflection error, while their reflection error is about 30 dB, which is less than HIE Mur's first-order results. The contour plots indicate that the maximum relative reflection as low as -72 dB is achieved by selecting κmax = 14 and σmax /σopt =1.0. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The fast-paced, constantly changing world produces massive data, which poses challenges for GIS. The volume, velocity, variety and value of big data challenge the data management ability of GIS. Traditional GIS database engine limits its functional to the data organization of geographic features in Static GIS or managing time-varying geospatial data in Temporal GIS. It offers offline manner to store and manage spatial and temporal information of geographical entity, which cannot satisfy the time-sensitive and dynamic processes which demand real-time information and relevant data reaches responders prior making intensive calculation and critical decisions, due to the restricted ability and imbalance of communication, calculation and storage. This paper designs a new collaborative DRDB and MMDB GIS database engine linking calculation and storage for real-time application. Based on functional segmentation, this engine consists of three parts that respectively cover the need of real-time accessing, composite calculating and massive storage which greatly promotes the integration among calculation, communication and storage. Finally, as a typical real-time application of geospatial data storage and calculation, suspect tracking based on video surveillance in public security is illustrated and proves the validity of the proposed GIS database engine. Molecular dynamics simulation of self-diffusion coefficients for liquid metals

The temperature-dependent coefficients of self-diffusion for liquid metals are simulated by molecular dynamics meth ods based on the embedded-atom-method （EAM） potential function. The simulated results show that a good inverse linear relation exists between the natural logarithm of self-diffusion coefficients and temperature, though the results in the litera ture vary somewhat, due to the employment of different potential functions. The estimated activation energy of liquid metals obtained by fitting the Arrhenius formula is close to the experimental data. The temperature-dependent shear-viscosities obtained from the Stokes-Einstein relation in conjunction with the results of molecular dynamics simulation are generally consistent with other values in the literature.

In order to improve the precision of lightning location, the lightning location error caused by atmospheric refraction was researched in this paper. Using the data detected by GPS sonde calculate the atmospheric refractivity changing with height. On this basis, the effect of the atmospheric refraction to lightning location (magnetic direction finder (DF), time-of-arrival (TOA) and combination of the two) is analyzed, and the error model of atmospheric refraction is established respectively. According to station measured elevation, calculate the real elevation of lightning source and the refraction error caused by atmospheric refraction. The simulation results show that the most significant impact of the multi-station techniques is the DF, the maximum value of refraction error can reach to 116.52m, the mean value is 32.18m. To the TOA technique, the maximum value of refraction error is about 49.64m, the mean value is 14.21m. To the combination technique, the maximum value is 56.70m, the mean value is 19.49m. Furthermore, if taking far station's direction to intersect, the refraction error is close to 1.6 times as selecting the near station. To ensure the positioning error caused by atmospheric refraction less than the error of GPS time synchronization, the distance between stations of the three methods should be no more than 28 km, 60 km, 45 km, which can lay a foundation for the construction of lightning detection network.

Potentially toxic metals and dyes commonly coexist in industrial wastewaters, posing a serious threat to public health and the environment and making the treatment more challenging. Herein, we report a novel magnetic polydopamine (PDA)–LDH (MPL) bifunctional material, which is fabricated by an easy and green approach for the simultaneous removal of potentially toxic metals and anionic dyes. In this assembly, both PDA and LDHs are expected to capture these pollutants. In a mono-component system, the removal behaviors showed heterogeneous removal capacities of 75.01, 624.89 and 584.56 mg g⁻¹ for Cu(II), methyl orange (MO) and Congo red (CR), respectively. Interestingly, the presence of CR and MO enhanced the removal of Cu(II) significantly in the Cu(II)–dye binary system. However, the presence of Cu(II) had no significant effect on dyes. Based on the characterization results including X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, Fourier transformed infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and elemental mapping, the removal of Cu(II) was mainly controlled by bonding with surface functional groups (hydroxyl, catechol, imine and amine groups), coupled with isomorphic substitution and surface precipitation. In summary, such a green and facile synthesis method, efficient removal performance and superior reusability suggest that the MPL assemblies have practical application potential for integrative and efficient treatment of coexisting toxic pollutants.

In previous work [Phys. Plasmas 21, 032901 (2014), Q. Chen et al.], a two dimensional Eulerian finite difference code was developed for solving the non-ideal magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations including the effects of self-consistent magnetic field, thermal conduction, resistivity, gravity, and radiation transfer, which when combined with specified pulse current models and plasma equations of state (EOS), can be used as a unified lightning return stroke solver. In this work a detailed EOS model of lightning return stroke channels is introduced, which can be equipped in the lightning return stroke solver conveniently. The partition functions, including excited states, for nitrogen and oxygen separately are calculated. The Coulomb interaction between charged particles are introduced based on the Debye-Huckel theory. The nonlinear Saha equations are solved by a specified iteration method. The comparison between the numerical results and the SESAME database shows a good consistency. With the new EOS model a class of numerical tests are implemented, which show its effective and robust.
