Many important problems in science and engineering can be reduced to the problem of solving linear equations. The quantum algorithm discovered recently indicates that one can solve an N-dimensional linear equation in O(logN) time, which provides an exponential speedup over the classical counterpart. Here we report an experimental demonstration of the quantum algorithm when the scale of the linear equation is 2×2 using a nuclear magnetic resonance quantum information processor. For all sets of experiments, the fidelities of the final four-qubit states are all above 96%. This experiment gives the possibility of solving a series of practical problems related to linear systems of equations and can serve as the basis to realize many potential quantum algorithms.

Full polarization radar systems can exploit full polarization to obtain a better degree of TFD's image formation of micro-Doppler target. In this paper, the polarimetric optimization algorithm to improve the TFD's image formation of micro-Doppler has been proposed. The effectiveness of the algorithm is demonstrated by the simulation experiment as well as by the measurement experiment of a space precession target in a microwave anechoic chamber. © 2013 EMA.

Geochemical Characters of Water Coproduced with Coalbed Gas and Shallow Groundwater in Liulin Coalfield of China

To reveal the geochemical characters of water coproduced with coalbed gas and shallow groundwater,water samples were collected from 12 wells of coalbed methane and 7 wells of shallow *** pH,CODMn,fCO2,total dissolved solids （TDS）,total hardness,and concentrations of metasilicic acid,sodium and kalium,calcium ion,magnesium ion,ammonium iron,bicarbonate ion,carbonate,chloride,sulfate ion,nitrate ion,fluoride,lithium,zinc,nickel,manganese,iron,boron,barium,*** the samples were *** results showed the following：（1） Concentrations of TDS,chloride,fluoride,sodium and kalium,ammonium,iron,and barium in the water coproduced with coalbed gas exceeded the national standards of China; however,physical,chemical,and biological properties of shallow groundwater could meet the national standard.（2） The water produced from coalbed contained mainly Na-Cl·HCO3,with average TDS of 4588.5 ppm,whereas shallow groundwater contained a mixture of chemicals including ***-HCO3·SO4 and ***-HCO3·SO4,with average TDS of 663.8 ppm.（3） In general,it was observed that bicarbonate and sodium accumulated in a reducing environment and deeper system,while depletion of hydrogen ions and dissolution of sulfate,calcium,and magnesium occurred in a redox environment and shallow system.（4） Sodium and kalium,ammonium,chloride,and bicarbonate ions were the main ions found in the study area.

It is an open question to confine an accurate ballistic limit curve (BLC) for Whipple shield above 7 km/s due to lack of experimental capability to launch gram-size spherical projectile in this velocity *** simulation was conducted by using AUTO-DYN-2D with Grüneisen EOS/Tillotson EOS and Steinberg-Guinan strength *** simulation results with the two EOSs show fluctuation,which contradicts the monotonic decreasing trend predicted by models and scaled *** obtained with Grüneisen EOS turns upward after 8.5 km/s and then it decreases from 9.5 km/s to 14.3 km/s,after which comes a sharp increase in linear *** obtained with Tillotson EOS turns upward after 8 km/s and it monotonically increases as a *** between simulation results in this paper and surrogate experiments and scaled experiments validates the variation trend of results obtained with Tillotson *** calculation and experimental research denote that the constitute material aluminum melts or even vaporizes under shock loading at impact velocities above 7 km/s.A debris cloud model containing molten particles and vaporized particles is founded to explain the fluctuation of ***,it can be deduced from simulation results with Tillotson EOS that aluminum totally vaporizes at 300 GPa.

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of lung cancer in Asian never-smoking women have previously identified six susceptibility loci associated with lung cancer risk. To further discover new susceptibility loci, we imputed data from four GWAS of Asian non-smoking female lung cancer (6877 cases and 6277 controls) using the 1000 Genomes Project (Phase 1 Release 3) data as the reference and genotyped additional samples (5878 cases and 7046 controls) for possible replication. In our meta-analysis, three new loci achieved genome-wide significance, marked by single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs7741164 at 6p21.1 (per-allele odds ratio (OR) = 1.17; P = 5.8 × 10(-13)), rs72658409 at 9p21.3 (per-allele OR = 0.77; P = 1.41 × 10(-10)) and rs11610143 at 12q13.13 (per-allele OR = 0.89; P = 4.96 × 10(-9)). These findings identified new genetic susceptibility alleles for lung cancer in never-smoking women in Asia and merit follow-up to understand their biological underpinnings.

Preparation of multi-wall carbon nanotube/S composites as cathodes for lithium/sulfur batteries

Multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with different diameters were ball-milled with different amounts of elemental sulfur for 2 h under an argon atmosphere, and then heated at 155 °C for 24 h...

Multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with different diameters were ball-milled with different amounts of elemental sulfur for 2 h under an argon atmosphere, and then heated at 155 °C for 24 h followed by heating at 300 °C for 2 h to prepare MWCNT/S composites. The composites were characterized by N 2 adsorption, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and electrochemical tests. It was found that the composite showing the best performance was the one in which the MWCNT diameter was in the range 10–20 nm and the sulfur content was 85 mass%. SEM confirms that the composite has a MWCNT-core and sulfur-shell structure. Sulfur not only covered the surface of the MWCNTs, but also filled the voids between the tubes. For the optimized composite the initial discharge capacity is 1272.8 mAhg -1 -sulfur and the capacity remaining after 80 cycles is 720.1 mAhg -1 -sulfur. Its active material utilization and capacity retention rates are 76.0% and 64.4%, respectively. The active material utilization and cycling performance of the composite are greatly improved compared with a sulfur electrode without the MWCNTs, owing to a high electrical conductivity of the MWCNTs and the stable structure of the composite. Traffic-Aware Channelization Medium Access Control for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

Existing multi-channel Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols have been demonstrated to significantly increase wireless network performance compared to single channel MAC protocols. Traditionally, the channelization structure in IEEE 802.11 based wireless networks is pre-configured, and the entire available spectrum is divided into subchannels and equal channel widths. In contrast, this paper presents a Traffic-Aware Channelization MAC (TAC-MAC) protocol for wireless ad hoc networks, where each node is equipped with a single half duplex transceiver. TAC-MAC works in a distributed, fine-grai-ned manner, which dynamically divides variable-width subchannels and allocates subchannel width based on the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique according to the traffic demands of nodes. Simulations show that the TAC-MAC can significantly improve network throughput and reduce packet delay compared with both fixed-width multi-channel MAC and single channel 802.11 protocols, which illustrates a new paradigm for high-efficient multi-channel MAC design in wireless ad hoc networks.

The influence of the circular birefringence on the measurement performance was analyzed based on the Polarization Properties of FBG in this paper. Due to the circular birefringence, the linear relationship between the max of PDL and pressure has been broken down. To estimate the cross sensitivity, a new parameter named relative peak of PDL （RP PDL ） is proposed. Under different circular birefringence, the same pressure sensitivity of sensor has been achieved. The theoretical analysis and experiment results prove that transverse strain sensor of FBG is insensitive to the circular birefringence by applying the RP PDL . This research can be provided to useful and practical application.
