Running mechanism and implementation technique of self-adaptive software in open environment

Due to the uncertainty and unpredictability of environment changes, it is a great challenge to develop self-adaptive systems in open environment. First, it is difficult for developers to clearly predict various environment changes and precisely define self-adaptation requirements at design-time. Second, many of self-adaptation decisions should be made by system at run-time. In order to deal with the problems, the paper presents an approach that is based on software agent technology and organization metaphor to support the development and running of such systems. Our approach enables developer to describe self-adaptive systems and investigate self-adaptation according to the high-level organization abstractions. A self-adaptation mechanism called role dynamic binding is designed and on-line self-adaptation is achieved by introducing enforcement learning. The paper details the on-line self-adaptation decision algorithm that integrates dynamic binding mechanism with enforcement learning together. Especially, a general-purpose and systematics software engineering solution to developing such system is provided, including self-adaptive software model, implementation framework, structured process and supporting software environment SADE+. Feverfew: a scalable coverage-based hybrid overlay for Internet-scale pub/sub networks

The publish/subscribe(pub/sub)paradigm is a popular communication model for data dissemination in large-scale distributed ***,scalability comes with a contradiction between the delivery latency and the memory *** one hand,constructing a separate overly per topic guarantees real-time dissemination,while the number of node degrees rapidly increases with the number of *** the other hand,maintaining a bounded number of connections per node guarantees small memory cost,while each message has to traverse a large number of uninterested nodes before reaching the *** this paper,we propose Feverfew,a coverage-based hybrid overlay that disseminates messages to all subscribers without uninterested nodes involved in,and increases the average number of node connections slowly with an increase in the number of subscribers and *** major novelty of Feverfew lies in its heuristic coverage mechanism implemented by combining a gossip-based sampling protocol with a probabilistic searching *** on the practical workload,our experimental results show that Feverfew significantly outperforms existing coverage-based overlay and DHT-based overlay in various dynamic network environments.

Sparse coding has shown its great potential in learning image feature representation. Recent developed methods such as group sparse coding prefer discovering the group relationships among examples and have achieved the state-of-the-art results in image classification. However, they suffer from poor robustness shortcomings in practice. This paper proposes a robust weighted supervised sparse coding method (RWSSC) to address this deficiency. Particularly, RWSSC distinguishes different classes' contributions to the sparse coding by a novel weighting strategy meanwhile removes the out liers by imposing l1-regularization over the noisy entries. Benefitting from these strategies, RWSSC can effectively boost performance of sparse coding in image classification. Besides, we developed the block coordinate descent algorithm to optimize it, and proved its convergence. Experimental results of image classification on two popular datasets show that RWSSC outperforms the representative sparse coding methods in quantities.

Principal component analysis (PCA) projects data on the directions with maximal variances. Since PCA is quite effective in dimension reduction, it has been widely used in computer vision. However, conventional PCA suffers from following deficiencies: 1) it spends much computational costs to handle high-dimensional data, and 2) it cannot reveal the nonlinear relationship among different features of data. To overcome these deficiencies, this paper proposes an efficient two-dimensional Euler PCA (2D-ePCA) algorithm. Particularly, 2D-ePCA learns projection matrix on the 2D pixel matrix of each image without reshaping it into 1D long vector, and uncovers nonlinear relationships among features by mapping data onto complex representation. Since such 2D complex representation induces much smaller kernel matrix and principal subspaces, 2D-ePCA costs much less computational overheads than Euler PCA on large-scale dataset. Experimental results on popular face datasets show that 2D-ePCA outperforms the representative algorithms in terms of accuracy, computational overhead, and robustness. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

Non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) has been a popular data analysis tool and has been widely applied in computer vision. However, conventional NMF methods cannot adaptively learn grouping structure froma *** paper proposes a non-negative low-rank and group-sparse matrix factorization (NLRGS) method to overcome this deficiency. Particularly, NLRGS captures the relationships among examples by constraining rank of the coefficients meanwhile identifies the grouping structure via group sparsity regularization. By both constraints, NLRGS boosts NMF in both classification and clustering. However, NLRGS is difficult to be optimized because it needs to deal with the low-rank constraint. To relax such hard constraint, we approximate the low-rank constraint with the nuclear norm and then develop an optimization algorithm for NLRGS in the frame of augmented Lagrangian method(ALM). Experimental results of both face recognition and clustering on four popular face datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of NLRGS in quantities. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

AutoMal: Automatic clustering and signature generation for malwares based on the network flow

The volume of malwares is growing at an exponential speed nowadays. This huge growth makes it extremely hard to analyse malware manually. Most existing signatures extracting methods are based on string signatures, and string matching is not accurate and time consuming. Therefore, this paper presents AutoMal, a system for automatically extracting signatures from large-scale malwares. Firstly, the system proposes to represent the network flows by using feature hashing, which can dramatically reduce the high-dimensional feature spaces that are general in malware analysis. Then, we design a clustering and median filtering method to classify the malware vectors into different types. Finally, it introduces the signature generation algorithm based on Bayesian method. The system can extract both the byte signature and the hash signature of malwares from its network flow with low false positive and zero false negative. Our evaluation shows that AutoMal can generate strongly noise-resisted signatures that exactly depict the characteristics of malware. © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

People-Centric Sensing (PCS), which collects information closely related to human activity and interactions in societies, is stepping into a flourishing time. Along with its great benefits, PCS poses new security challenges such as data integrity, participant privacy. Hierarchical Identity-Based Signature (HIBS) scheme can efficiently provide high integrity messaging, secure communication and privacy protection to PCS. However, the low computation efficiency primarily hinders the PCS adoption of HIBS scheme. In this paper, we propose an online/offline HIBS (HIBOOS) scheme for securing PCS. By splitting the signing phase into online and offline procedures, our scheme achieves high signing efficiency.

Coordination among users is inevitable in wireless communication for efficient medium access. Even though the data rate of individual user increases significantly, the performance of wireless network does not grow up accordingly due to the high MAC coordination overhead. In this paper, we present VFA, namely virtual frame aggregation, to achieve high coordination efficiency by amortizing the overhead over multiple transmissions. VFA provides a novel way to construct a winner cluster and allow the winners to transmit without interruption. Specifically, in a multicarrier network, every contending node chooses a subcarrier and the nodes are ordered by the index of the chosen subcarrier. When there are some subcarriers chosen by two or more nodes, an additional slot is exploited to reorder the collided nodes. Finally, all ordered nodes form a cluster and the transmissions are issued sequentially and uninterruptedly. Simulation results show that usually two slots are enough to construct a sufficiently large winner cluster. Moreover, VFA achieves a notable throughput gain over IEEE 802.11 as high as 120% with better fairness under various scenarios.

In order to utilize the shared last-level cache (LLC) in chip multi-processors (CMP) more efficiently, the partitioning of LLC resources among all cores should have the characteristics of low-latency for access, fine granularity for migration and simple hardware complexity for implementation. This paper proposes a dynamic LLC management scheme to achieve these goals. The proposed scheme migrates cache resources among different cores at the granularity of cache blocks, instead of ways. The quantity of victim cache blocks that each victim core can migrate to other target cores are related to an eviction probability, which are calculated according to the performance goal. Then the victim cache blocks for a target core is chosen from the nearest victim core who has non-zero eviction probability by introducing innovate E-Table structure in CMP. The eviction probabilities are updated periodically. With the help of E-Tables, the proposal achieves low-latency accesses by always keeping the required cache blocks near to the target cores. And fine granularity is guaranteed by maintaining an eviction probability for each core. In addition, only little additional hardware changes to traditional cache structure is required. Simulation results suggest significant performance improvements from 6.8% to 22.7% over related works.

Currently, the performance problems of software systems gets more and more attentions. Among various diagnosis methods based on system traces, principal component analysis (PCA) based methods are widely used due to the high accuracy of the diagnosis results and requiring no specific domain knowledge. However, according to our experiments, we have validated several shortcomings existed in PCA-based methods, including requiring traces with a same call sequence, inefficiency when the traces are long, and missing performance problems. To cope with these issues, we introduce a segmentation based online diagnosis method in this poster.
