With the rapid development of technology, smart devices have become indispensable tools for people, and IoT devices are ubiquitous, playing an important role in our daily lives. When using IoT device applications and services, users must go through complex authentication processes, which are time-consuming and pose various security issues. Not only must users be authenticated, but the devices must also be identified to ensure security. Physically Unclonable Functions (PUF) can be considered as hardware fingerprints due to their randomness and unpredictability, used to identify the uniqueness of devices. Given the limited computational power of IoT devices, the need for lightweight mechanisms is even more pronounced. Therefore, this protocol proposes a three-party mutual authentication using a smartphone involving the user, the server, and the IoT device. The PUF within the device generates a session key to authorize the IoT device to use and access the service. Finally, the contributions of this mechanism are highlighted through security analysis and comparison with related works. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

A novel dual-core dual-mode class-F voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with wide frequency tuning range (TR) is proposed in this letter. It consists of two coupled parallel "8"-shaped inductor and two crossed-coupled VCO cores. To increase the TR of the proposed VCO without adding additional footprint size, a single-turn common-mode inductor is embedded inside the "8"-shaped inductor. By controlling the mode switches, the inductor can work in different modes with large inductance difference, realizing large VCO TR consequently. Then, the two coupled inductors were engineered to form the fundamental and third harmonic resonances, respectively, thereby producing a pseudo-square wave output waveform and realizing class-F operation. With the proposed configuration, the phase noise (PN) of the proposed VCO can be significantly reduced without increasing VCO core size. To demonstrate the proposed idea, a VCO prototype is fabricated in a 65-nm CMOS process with a core size of 1.235×0.8mm. It achieves a wide frequency TR from 2.84 to 7.04 GHz. The measured PN at 1-MHz offset is from -123.9 to -113.1 dBc/Hz, demonstrating an FOMT of 196.0-201.3 dBc/Hz. © 2023 IEEE.

In the last few decades, metaheuristic algorithms that use the laws of nature have been used dramatically in numerous and complex optimization problems. The artificial hummingbird algorithm (AHA) is one of the metaheuristic algorithms that was invented in 2022 based on the foraging and migration behavior of the hummingbird for modeling and solving optimization problems. The algorithm initially starts with an initial random population of solutions. It then uses iterative processes and hummingbird position updates to balance exploration and exploitation toward the most optimal solutions. This paper has a detailed and extensive review of the AHA algorithm considering the aspects of hybrid, improved, binary, multi-objective, and optimization problems. In addition, a wide range of applications of AHA in various fields such as feature selection, image processing, scheduling, Internet of Things, classification, clustering, financial and economic issues, forecasting, wireless sensor networks, and many engineering challenges are explored. The statistical and numerical results showed that the AHA algorithm with deep learning methods, Levy flight, and opposition-based learning had the best performance. Also, the AHA algorithm is most widely used in solving multimodal optimization problems and continuous functions. © The Author(s) under exclusive licence to International center for Numerical Methods in engineering (CIMNE) 2024.

Molecular dynamics simulation emerges as an important area that HPC+AI helps to investigate the physical properties, with machine-learning interatomic potentials (MLIPs) being used. General-purpose machine-learning (ML) tools have been leveraged in MLIPs, but they are not perfectly matched with each other, since many optimization opportunities in MLIPs have been missed by ML tools. This inefficiency arises from the fact that HPC+AI applications work with far more computational complexity compared with pure AI scenarios. This paper has developed an MLIP, named TensorMD, independently from any ML tool. TensorMD has been evaluated on two supercomputers and scaled to 51.8 billion atoms, i.e., ~ 3× compared with state-of-the-art.

The fact that early-stage breast cancer typically presents no signs, poses a global risk to the lives of women. Digital mammography is just one method among many that can detect breast cancer in its early stages. Despite extensive research, most methods for detecting breast cancers still produce a large number of false positives. The difficulty in improving detection accuracy is in reducing false positives by differentiating masses from normal tissues. Using the textural properties of the masses, this study aims to develop a computer-aided diagnosis system that reduces the number of false positive and negative mammography results. The suggested method initially partitions regions of interest (ROI) into small patches to extract an abnormality region and micro-pattern, which permits the extraction of specific information about the image's content in targeted areas. Reducing the computational complexity of an image analysis operation is accomplished by partitioning a ROI into smaller patches rather than processing the complete image at once. Due to the significant impact the noise has on detection accuracy in mammograms, a textural descriptor that is insensitive to noise is introduced to describe image features such as lines, spots, flat areas, and edges. By expanding the rotation-invariant and noise-tolerant descriptor histograms, we generate an improved histogram that preserves the original regional patterns and spatial relationships between masses. To distinguish between "normal" and "mass" and "benign" and "malignant", Support Vector Machines (SVM) is employed with grid search based hyperparameter optimization. Our proposed approach was evaluated using the Digital Database for Screening Mammography (DDSM), which contains over 1024 ROI cases. This database is a well-established benchmark for testing new mammography analysis methods. Approximate nearest neighbor search (ANNS) has emerged as a crucial component of database and AI infrastructure. Ever-increasing vector datasets pose significant challenges in terms of performance, cost, and accuracy for ANNS services. None of modern ANNS systems can address these issues simultaneously. In this paper, we present FusionANNS, a high-throughput, low-latency, cost-efficient, and high-accuracy ANNS system for billion-scale datasets using SSDs and only one entry-level GPU. The key idea of FusionANNS lies in CPU/GPU collaborative filtering and re-ranking mechanisms, which significantly reduce I/O operations across CPUs, GPU, and SSDs to break through the I/O performance bottleneck. Specifically, we propose three novel designs: (1) multi-tiered indexing to avoid data swapping between CPUs and GPU, (2) heuristic re-ranking to eliminate unnecessary I/Os and computations while guaranteeing high accuracy, and (3) redundant-aware I/O deduplication to further improve I/O efficiency. We implement FusionANNS and compare it with the state-of-the-art SSD-based ANNS system-SPANN and GPU-accelerated in-memory ANNS system-RUMMY. Experimental results show that FusionANNS achieves 1) 9.4-13.1× higher query per second (QPS) and 5.7-8.8× higher cost efficiency compared with SPANN;2) and 2-4.9× higher QPS and 2.3-6.8× higher cost efficiency compared with RUMMY, while guaranteeing low latency and high accuracy. © 2025 FAST. Hypergraph Neural Networks (HGNNs) are increasingly utilized to analyze complex inter-entity relationships. Traditional HGNN systems, based on a hyperedge-centric dataflow model, independently process aggregation tasks for hyperedges and vertices, leading to significant computational redundancy. This redundancy arises from recalculating shared information across different tasks. For the first time, we identify and harness implicit dataflows (i.e., dependencies) within HGNNs, introducing the microedge concept to effectively capture and reuse intricate shared information among aggregation tasks, thereby minimizing redundant computations. We have developed a new microedge-centric dataflow model that processes shared information as fine-grained microedge aggregation tasks. This dataflow model is supported by the Read-Process-Activate-Generate execution model, which aims to optimize parallelism among these tasks. Furthermore, our newly developed MeHyper, a microedge-centric HGNN accelerator, incorporates a decoupled pipeline for improved computational parallelism and a hierarchical feature management strategy to reduce off-chip memory accesses for large volumes of intermediate feature vectors generated. Our evaluation demonstrates that MeHyper substantially outperforms the leading CPUbased system PyG-CPU and the GPU-based system HyperGef, delivering performance improvements of 1,032.23 × and 10.51 ×, and energy efficiencies of 1,169.03 × and 9.96 ×, respectively. © 2025 IEEE.

Read mapping is a critical bottleneck in genome sequence analysis, requiring costly approximate string matching to identify potential matches between reads and a reference genome. Pre-alignment filtering methods aim to mitigate this issue by filtering out unnecessary mapping locations, and implementing them with processing-in-memory (PIM) approaches offers potential benefits by offloading filtering from the computing unit. However, the sparse number of potential mapping locations for each read limits the utilization of PIM's parallel computing capabilities, thereby hindering the overlapping of filtering and sequence alignment to hide filtering latency overheads. In this paper, we propose a 3D NAND-based in-storage pre-alignment filtering approach. Leveraging the read depth property, we introduce a read-centric pre-alignment filtering method that enables parallel comparison of multiple reads. We co-design software and hardware for in-situ processing of read-centric pre-alignment filtering within the storage, capitalizing on 3D NAND Flash's approximate parallel search capability. When integrating with a representative read mapping accelerator, our design achieves an average 1.36x performance improvement with comparable energy consumption. Compared to the state-of-the-art (SOTA) PIM solution, our design results in 123.8x and 53.3x performance gain and energy efficiency improvement. © 2025 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). In this paper, we introduce a new dataset for air conditioner refrigerant leak smoke detection, called ACRL-10K. The dataset is designed to develop algorithms for detecting refrigerant leak smoke faults during air conditioner recycling. It contains a total of 10, 724 images covering three common scenarios of air conditioner refrigerant leak: loading port, refrigerant extraction, and disassembly. All images are sourced from 656 video segments of real air conditioner recycling scenarios, captured by surveillance cameras deployed on an environmental company's recycling production line. The annotations for the refrigerant leak smoke in the images are performed by industry experts to ensure high accuracy and consistency. To the best of our knowledge, ACRL-10K is the first dataset specifically designed for refrigerant leak smoke detection. Based on the ACRL-10K dataset, we present the performance of mainstream object detectors, including the YOLO series, as a baseline to conduct the following work: 1) preliminarily summarize the challenges of using the dataset for refrigerant leak smoke detection;2) show the detection results of benchmark methods;and 3) make a comparison to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the baseline algorithms. In practice, the ACRL-10K dataset would hopefully advance research and applications in refrigerant leak early warning during air conditioner dismantling and recycling processes. © 2025 IEEE.
