The conventional quantum teleportation schemes enable high-security network communications by establishing end-to-end entangled paths. However, those schemes focus on time synchronization and thus cause lots of idle time. Recent research suggests adopting an opportunistic scheme to forward data qubits as far as it can. However, this scheme lacks security since data qubits may be stored at malicious repeaters, which may peek at, destroy, or fake the data qubits. To this end, we design a new scheme called SOAR that considers trusted repeaters via social networks. Moreover, SOAR promotes the parallelism of swapping processes and thus leads to a less idle time of network resources than the other existing schemes. Furthermore, we design an algorithm called SAGE that can best fit SOAR by linking multiple subpaths via appropriate trusted repeaters to get an ideal path and augmenting least-hop paths to utilize the resources in quantum networks better. Simulation results manifest that SOAR outperforms the other schemes by 54%-89%; SAGE outperforms the other routing algorithms by 50% on average on SOAR.

Automatic video colorization is inherently an ill-posed problem because each monochrome frame has multiple optional color candidates. Previous exemplar-based video colorization methods restrict the user's imagination due to the elaborate retrieval process. Alternatively, conditional image colorization methods combined with post-processing algorithms still struggle to maintain temporal consistency. To address these issues, we present Language-based video Colorization for Creative and Consistent Colors (L-C4) to guide the colorization process using user-provided language descriptions. Our model is built upon a pre-trained cross-modality generative model, leveraging its comprehensive language understanding and robust color representation abilities. We introduce the cross-modality pre-fusion module to generate instance-aware text embeddings, enabling the application of creative colors. Additionally, we propose temporally deformable attention to prevent flickering or color shifts, and cross-clip fusion to maintain long-term color consistency. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that L-C4 outperforms relevant methods, achieving semantically accurate colors, unrestricted creative correspondence, and temporally robust consistency. © 2024, CC BY.

Although cloud computing saves the cost of enterprises and individuals to manage data in various applications on public cloud servers, it also causes the problem of the leakage of critical personal information and sensitive data. Therefore, the issues about data privacy of the published personal information have become a challenging problem. Most of the existing methods focus on cryptography-based techniques by encrypting the sensitive data before publishing. However, these techniques are either too computation expensive or only some authorized users can get access to the encrypted cloud data. The consequence is that the search response time is not satisfactory and the sharing extent of the cloud data is becoming limited. Motivated by this, we propose a perturbation-based method to preserve the privacy of data in cloud. To accelerate the query processing without privacy breaches, a high-efficiency multi-dimensional index is built for answering range counting queries under differential privacy, which embeds privacy-preserving R-tree index in Content Addressable Network. Experimental results demonstrate that our methods not only protect data privacy in different degree, but also accelerate the query speed efficiently. Compared with the existing method Quad-opt, our method provides about 20% better data utility under the same differential privacy principles. © 2019 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Modern scientific applications predominantly run on large-scale computing platforms, necessitating collaboration between scientific domain experts and high-performance computing (HPC) experts. While domain experts are often skilled in customizing domain-specific scientific computing routines, which often involves various matrix computations, HPC experts are essential for achieving efficient execution of these computations on large-scale platforms. This process often involves utilizing complex parallel computing libraries tailored to specific matrix computation scenarios. However, the intricate programming procedure and the need for deep understanding in both application domains and HPC poses significant challenges to the widespread adoption of scientific computing. In this research, we observe that matrix computations can be transformed into equivalent graph representations, and that by utilizing graph processing engines, HPC experts can be freed from the burden of implementing efficient scientific computations. Based on this observation, we introduce a graph engine-based scientific computing (Graph for Science) paradigm, which provides a unified graph programming interface, enabling domain experts to promptly implement various types of matrix computations. The proposed paradigm leverages the underlying graph processing engine to achieve efficient execution, eliminating the needs for HPC expertise in programming large-scale scientific applications. We evaluate the performance of the developed graph compute engine for three typical scientific computing routines. Our results demonstrate that the graph engine-based scientific computing paradigm achieves performance comparable to the best-performing implementations based on existing parallel computing libraries and bespoke implementations. Air pollution has become a big issue in the Northern part of Thailand due to forest fires, human activities, and seasonal climate. The air pollutant particulate matter (PM10) measurements from the Pollution Control Department (PCD) stations contain some missing values, which limit the capability in time-series prediction of future pollutant quantity. This research performs a preliminary study of PM10 time-series data imputation in three provinces in Thailand, including Chiang Mai, Lampang, and Nan. The evaluation was performed using three imputation methods: k-nearest neighbours (KNN), last observation carried forward (LOCF), and nearest observation carried backward (NOCB). NOCB obtains the highest R 2 , the lowest mean absolute error (MAE), and the lowest root mean squared error (RMSE) when tested with mimic missing data at varied proportions, ranging from 5% to 25% of the entire data. Imputed data as a result of NOCB underwent time-series data prediction of PM10 using long short-term memory (LSTM)-based neural networks. Prediction models were trained and tested based on the data splitting ratio of 80:20 from 2019 to 2020. The PM10 prediction model trained using imputed data leads to accurate prediction of unseen future data, achieving the R 2 values of approximately 0.92.

We investigated the dielectrophoresis (DEP) of red blood cells by observing the critical frequencies that cause the cells to change between positive DEP to negative DEP. We fabricated a microfluidic device composed of a microchannel and electrodes. Red blood cells suspended in a conductive buffer were fed into the device and the DEP experiment was performed to determine the critical frequency of the red blood cells. Subsequently, the experimental critical frequencies were used to calculate electrical parameters, cytoplasmic conductivity and membrane capacitance, of the cells.

At present, crowd counting is a hot issue, although there have been many studies. However, most of the research is oriented toward improving detection accuracy, ignoring the constraints of monitoring computing power in practical application scenarios. In this paper, we give three challenges to crowd counting and propose a dense crowd counting network called SEMACC based on a deep neural network. SEMACC refers to the lightweight neural network ShuffleNetV2 to design the backbone network ShuffleUnit, and designs and proposes the lightweight feature extractor EMA module with multi-step attention integration centered on dilated separable convolution. The EMA module can effectively extract the mixed features of the channel, spatial and branch attention. Finally, the Decoder module is used to parse the feature into a crowd density map. The experimental results show that the parameters of SEMACC are only 2.85M, and the average accuracy is 91.3% in ShanghaiTech datasets, and satisfactory accuracy is obtained with less calculation. © 2022 IEEE.

Intrusion detection systems (IDSs) are commonly employed to mitigate network security threats in various fields, including federated learning applications within the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). However, IDSs face challenges owing to the sheer volume of network traffic, high-dimensional datasets and the necessity for real-time detection. Although machine learning integration assists IDSs in overcoming these challenges, modelling difficulties persist due to varied evaluation criteria and levels of conflict and importance. Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) solutions have been utilised in IoMT and IDS, yet they fall short in capturing the subjective judgements of experts and rely on normalisation approaches, which can impact results. This study seeks to address these issues through the integration of robust MCDM methodologies, namely fuzzy-weighted zero-inconsistency (FWZIC) and fuzzy decision by opinion score method (FDOSM). Utilising rough Fermatean fuzzy sets (RFFSs), this integration produces precise solutions with reduced uncertainty. Our methodology involves adopting a decision matrix for IDS classifiers based on integrated evaluation criteria, followed by deriving new formulations and developments for RFFSs-based FDOSM and FWZIC for the modelling and weighting of criteria, respectively. Evaluations using datasets involving 125,973 records and 41 features across 17 evaluation criteria revealed that accuracy–security and training time–performance weights yielded the highest scores, whereas false negative rate–security and CPU time–performance criteria received the lowest weights. The random forest emerged as the optimal IDS classifier. Systematic modelling, sensitivity analysis and comparative studies confirmed the robustness of our results. © 2023, Crown.
