Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) are integral components of e-healthcare systems, responsible for monitoring patients' physiological states through intelligent implantable or wearable sensor nodes. These nodes collect medical data, which is then transmitted to remote healthcare facilities for thorough evaluation. Securing medical data within WBANs is paramount due to its central role in preserving patient privacy and confidentiality. Notably, Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals have recently gained prominence as pivotal elements within diverse security frameworks. Incorporating ECG signals strategically enhances the security and reliability of WBANs and broader e-healthcare systems, instilling greater trustworthiness. This survey article provides an in-depth exploration of contemporary ECG-based security schemes, adding to the scholarly discourse. The imperative to categorize these security paradigms revolves around their use of ECG signals. This categorization identifies three key domains: the first involves schemes that utilize ECG signals for cryptographic operations, encompassing key generation, agreement, management, and authentication. The second category employs steganography-based techniques, using ECG signals to conceal patients' sensitive medical data. The third category focuses on enhancing ECG signal security during data transmission. Each category is meticulously elaborated, detailing architectural foundations, notable contributions, and intrinsic security services. Furthermore, each section presents a comprehensive overview of the attributes characterizing ECG-based security frameworks. This includes insights into employed datasets, simulation environments, evaluation metrics, and inherent advantages and limitations. Expanding on this, a thorough analysis of distinctive attributes underpinning these security frameworks concludes by shedding light on potential directions for future research. © 2023 Elsevier Inc.

SMT solvers check the satisfiability of logic formulas over first-order theories, which have been utilized in a rich number of critical applications, such as software verification, test case generation, and program synthesis. Bugs hidden in SMT solvers would severely mislead those applications and further cause severe consequences. Therefore, ensuring the reliability and robustness of SMT solvers is of critical importance. Although many approaches have been proposed to test SMT solvers, it is still a challenge to discover bugs effectively. To tackle such a challenge, we conduct an empirical study on the historical bug-triggering formulas in SMT solvers' bug tracking systems. We observe that the historical bug-triggering formulas contain valuable skeletons (i.e., core structures of formulas) as well as associated atomic formulas which can cast significant impacts on formulas' ability in triggering bugs. Therefore, we propose a novel approach that utilizes the skeletons extracted from the historical bug-triggering formulas and enumerates atomic formulas under the guidance of association rules derived from historical formulas. In this study, we realized our approach as a practical fuzzing tool HistFuzz and conducted extensive testing on the well-known SMT solvers Z3 and cvc5. To date, HistFuzz has found 111 confirmed new bugs for Z3 and cvc5, of which 108 have been fixed by the developers. More notably, out of the confirmed bugs, 23 are soundness bugs and invalid model bugs found in the solvers' default mode, which are essential for SMT solvers. In addition, our experiments also demonstrate that HistFuzz outperforms the state-of-the-art SMT solver fuzzers in terms of achieved code coverage and effectiveness.

From General to Specific: Tailoring Large Language Models for Personalized Healthcare

The rapid development of large language models (LLMs) has transformed many industries, including healthcare. However, previous medical LLMs have largely focused on leveraging general medical knowledge to provide responses, without accounting for patient variability and lacking true personalization at the individual level. To address this, we propose a novel method called personalized medical language model (PMLM), which explores and optimizes personalized LLMs through recommendation systems and reinforcement learning (RL). Specifically, by utilizing self-informed and peer-informed personalization, PMLM captures changes in behaviors and preferences to design initial personalized prompts tailored to individual needs. We further refine these initial personalized prompts through RL, ultimately enhancing the precision of LLM guidance. Notably, the personalized prompt are hard prompt, which grants PMLM high adaptability and reusability, allowing it to directly leverage high-quality proprietary LLMs. We evaluate PMLM using real-world obstetrics and gynecology data, and the experimental results demonstrate that PMLM achieves personalized responses, and it provides more refined and individualized services, offering a potential way for personalized medical LLMs. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is the fundamental software system that supports the interpretation and execution of Java bytecode. To support the surging performance demands for the increasingly complex and large-scale Java programs, Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler was proposed to perform sophisticated runtime optimization. However, this inevitably induces various bugs, which are becoming more pervasive over the decades and can often cause significant consequences. To facilitate the design of effective and efficient testing techniques to detect JIT compiler bugs. This study first performs a preliminary study aiming to understand the characteristics of JIT compiler bugs and the corresponding triggering test cases. Inspired by the empirical findings, we propose JOpFuzzer, a new JVM testing approach with a specific focus on JIT compiler bugs. The main novelty of JOpFuzzer is embodied in three aspects. First, besides generating new seeds, JOpFuzzer also searches for diverse configurations along the new dimension of optimization options. Second, JOpFuzzer learns the correlations between various code features and different optimization options to guide the process of seed mutation and option exploration. Third, it leverages the profile data, which can reveal the program execution information, to guide the fuzzing process. Such nov-elties enable JOpFuzzer to effectively and efficiently explore the two-dimensional input spaces. Extensive evaluation shows that JOpFuzzer outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches in terms of the achieved code coverages. More importantly, it has detected 41 bugs in OpenJDK, and 25 of them have already been confirmed or fixed by the corresponding developers.

Defocus blur detection, as an important pre-processing step of image processing, has attracted more and more attention. Albeit great success has been made, there are still several challenges for accurate defocus blur detection, such as the interference of background clutter, sensitivity to scales, missing boundary details and large computational burden. For handling these issues, we present a deep neural network which hierarchically embeds residual learning blocks for defocus blur detection. Based on the feature pyramid structure, we extract deep features with varying scales via utilizing a backbone fully convolutional network and generate a coarse score map by using the last layer of feature maps. Then we design a hierarchical residual embedding module to fuse different levels of features in a layer-wise manner. By embedding different layer-wise features in the top-down pathway, coarse-level semantic information from the deep layers can be seamlessly propagated to shallow layers, while fine details in the shallow layers can be used to refine the boundary between out-of-focus and in-focus regions. For each layer, a side output is generated by using a residual learning block. For capturing multi-scale information, the multiple side outputs of different layers are fed into a designed fusion block for yielding the final blur map result. Experimental results on two commonly used datasets show that our proposed network can more accurately locate the defocus blur regions with sharpened details being well preserved when compared to other previous state-of-the-arts. In addition, our approach is fast as well and can run at a speed of more than 25 FPS when processing an image with size 427 x 640. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Population-based metaheuristic algorithms have gained significant attention in research community due to its effectiveness in solving complex optimization problems in diverse fields. In this study, knacks of population-based Runge-Kutta optimizer (RUN) are exploited for the identification of fractional input non-linear exogenous auto-regressive (FINARX) system with key term separation. The fractional order calculus operator of the Grünwald-Letnikov derivative is exploited to develop FINARX from a conventional non-linear auto-regressive exogenous system. The identification scheme for FINARX model is implemented through a mean-square-error-based fitness function. RUN utilizes the slope variations calculated by the well-known Runge-Kutta method for an effective search mechanism in the exploration and exploitation phases. Moreover, an enhanced solution quality mechanism is employed for speedy convergence and keeping the movement toward the best solution by escaping the local optima. The robustness of the algorithm is analyzed by multiple variations of non-linearity as well as different noise scenarios. The performance of the RUN to identify the FINARX system is validated in terms of convergence rate, fitness value, robustness, and accuracy in weight estimation. The effectiveness of the RUN is further assessed through exhaustive simulations with their statistics as well as comparison with the standard recent counterparts, including the Whale optimization algorithm, Reptile Search algorithm, and Aquila optimizer on different performance indices for the FINARX system. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

CoRaiS: Lightweight Real-Time Scheduler for Multi-Edge Cooperative Computing

Multi-edge cooperative computing that combines constrained resources of multiple edges into a powerful resource pool has the potential to deliver great benefits, such as a tremendous computing power, improved response time, more diversified services. However, the mass heterogeneous resources composition and lack of scheduling strategies make the modeling and cooperating of multi-edge computing system particularly complicated. This paper first proposes a system-level state evaluation model to shield the complex hardware configurations and redefine the different service capabilities at heterogeneous edges. Secondly, an integer linear programming model is designed to cater for optimally dispatching the distributed arriving requests. Finally, a learning-based lightweight real-time scheduler, CoRaiS, is proposed. CoRaiS embeds the real-time states of multi-edge system and requests information, and combines the embeddings with a policy network to schedule the requests, so that the response time of all requests can be minimized. Evaluation results verify that CoRaiS can make a high-quality scheduling decision in real time, and can be generalized to other multi-edge computing system, regardless of system scales. Characteristic validation also demonstrates that CoRaiS successfully learns to balance loads, perceive real-time state and recognize heterogeneity while scheduling. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Generating large-scale datasets on supercomputers is a critical component of modern research, enabling sophisticated analysis and mining applications. In the context of SUBOFF model studies for advanced submarine development, we emphasize the significance of supercomputer-generated big data and its subsequent application. Utilizing the Sunway TaihuLight supercomputer and the SWLBM software, we employ the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) to generate a comprehensive dataset of flows over a SUBOFF model. This dataset is then used to train a physics-informed neural network (PINN) model, which aims to reconstruct flow fields from sparse velocity measurements. The PINN is designed to perform super-resolution velocity reconstruction and concurrent pressure field inference. Our results show that the reconstructed flow fields, including pressure, are in good agreement with the full-resolution LBM references, highlighting the promise of this approach for complex flow motion reconstruction. This research demonstrates the potential of supercomputer-generated big data in enhancing simulations and experiments in the study of SUBOFF and beyond. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Query-centered Temporal Community Search via Time-Constrained Personalized PageRank

Existing temporal community search suffers from two defects: (i) they ignore the temporal proximity between the query vertex q and other vertices but simply require the result to include q. Thus, they find many temporal irrelevant vertices (these vertices are called query-drifted vertices) to q for satisfying their cohesiveness, resulting in q being marginalized;(ii) their methods are NP-hard, incurring high costs for exact solutions or compromised qualities for approximate/heuristic algorithms. Inspired by these, we propose a novel problem named query-centered temporal community search to circumvent query-drifted vertices. Specifically, we first present a novel concept of Time-Constrained Personalized PageRank to characterize the temporal proximity between q and other vertices. Then, we introduce a model called β-temporal proximity core, which can combine temporal proximity and structural cohesiveness. Subsequently, our problem is formulated as an optimization task that finds a β-temporal proximity core with the largest β. To solve our problem, we first devise an exact and near-linear time greedy removing algorithm that iteratively removes unpromising vertices. To improve efficiency, we then design an approximate two-stage local search algorithm with bound-based pruning techniques. Finally, extensive experiments on eight real-life datasets and nine competitors show the superiority of the proposed solutions. © 2023, CC BY.
