MalScan: Android Malware Detection Based on Social-Network Centrality Analysis

Malware scanning of an app market is expected to be scalable and effective. However, existing approaches use syntax-based features that can be evaded by transformation attacks or semantic-based features which are usually extracted by expensive program analysis. Therefore, to address the scalability challenges of traditional heavyweight static analysis, we propose a graph-based lightweight approach MalScan for Android malware detection. MalScan considers the function call graph as a complex social network and employs centrality analysis on sensitive application program interfaces (APIs) to express the semantic characteristics of the graph. On this basis, machine learning algorithms and ensemble learning algorithms are applied to classify the extracted features. We evaluate MalScan on datasets of 104,892 benign apps and 108,640 malwares, and the results of experiments indicate that MalScan outperforms six state-of-the-art detectors and can quickly detect Android malware with an f-value as high as 99%. In addition, there are also significant improvements in the robustness of Android app evolution and robustness to obfuscation. Finally, we conduct an exhaustive statistical study of over one million applications in the Google-Play app market and successfully identify 498 zero-day malware, which further validates the feasibility of MalScan on market-wide malware scanning. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

The two control objectives of voltage regulation and precise current sharing are conflicting in multi-bus DC microgrids. In this paper, a distributed control strategy is proposed, and it can achieve accurate current sharing and regulate the voltage of a critical node to the rated value. However, such a distributed control system is susceptible to potential cyber attacks that could deteriorate microgrids performances by corrupting communication links or actuators. To overcome these difficulties, we design the interconnected communication networks to establish a resilient cooperative system of multiple microgrids against unknown bounded injection attacks. The proposed resilient control strategy can achieve the control objectives of maintaining voltage regulation and current sharing within each microgrids under different operating conditions, and the interconnected system consisting of multiple microgrids cooperates to mitigate the adverse effect of cyber attacks. The dynamics and stability of the overall close-loop system of the DC microgrids are analyzed, in the present or absent of cyber attacks. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in two 4-bus DC microgrids. © 2023 IEEE.

Intrusion detection system (IDS) combines software and hardware to detect network attacks. In this paper, we propose a new intrusion detection method based on an improved BP neural network algorithm. We improve the BP neural network algorithm by combining it with the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and the differential evolution (DE) algorithm. We also propose a new framework based on common intrusion detection framework to accommodate our improved BP neural network. The experiments based on the CICIDS2017 dataset show our approach achieves better detection efficiency. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press.

The Decoder-side Secondary Transform Derivation (DSTD) method has been adopted by the exploration software of the fourth generation Audio Video coding Standard (AVS4), Exploration Video Model (EVM). Although DSTD can significantly improve the coding performance, it increases the encoding complexity simultaneously. To reduce the encoding complexity of DSTD, three enhanced DSTD methods are proposed in this paper, which consists of Deleting Mode Optimization (DMO), Intra Mode Dependent Optimization (IMDO) and Interleaved Intra Mode Dependent Optimization (IIMDO). The process of DMO is similar to that of the original DSTD method, but all the contents related to diagonal flipping have been removed. IMDO divides intra prediction modes into three areas based on the angle of the intra prediction mode, as shown in Fig. 1. Each area will correspondingly reduce a secondary transform type. IIMDO divides intra prediction modes into four areas, as shown in Fig. 2. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed methods can effectively reduce the encoding complexity with negligible coding performance loss. The first enhanced method, Deleting Mode Optimization, has been adopted by EVM.

Cloud gaming is an advanced form of Internet service that necessitates local terminals to decode within limited resources and time latency. Super-Resolution (SR) techniques are often employed on these terminals as an efficient way to reduce the required bit-rate bandwidth for cloud gaming. However, insufficient attention has been paid to SR of compressed game video content. Most SR networks amplify block artifacts and ringing effects in decoded frames while ignoring edge details of game content, leading to unsatisfactory reconstruction results. In this paper, we propose a novel lightweight network called Coding Prior-Guided Super-Resolution (CPGSR) to address the SR challenges in compressed game video content. First, we design a Compressed Domain Guided Block (CDGB) to extract features of different depths from coding priors, which are subsequently integrated with features from the U-net backbone. Then, a series of re-parameterization blocks are utilized for reconstruction. Ultimately, inspired by the quantization in video coding, we propose a partitioned focal frequency loss to effectively guide the model's focus on preserving high-frequency information. Extensive experiments demonstrate the advancement of our approach.

Mix-Modality Person Re-Identification: A New and Practical Paradigm

Current visible-infrared cross-modality person re-identification research has only focused on exploring the bi-modality mutual retrieval paradigm, and we propose a new and more practical mix-modality retrieval paradigm. Existing Visible-Infrared person re-identification (VI-ReID) methods have achieved some results in the bi-modality mutual retrieval paradigm by learning the correspondence between visible and infrared modalities. However, significant performance degradation occurs due to the modality confusion problem when these methods are applied to the new mix-modality paradigm. Therefore, this paper proposes a Mix-Modality person re-identification (MM-ReID) task, explores the influence of modality mixing ratio on performance, and constructs mix-modality test sets for existing datasets according to the new mix-modality testing paradigm. To solve the modality confusion problem in MM-ReID, we propose a Cross-Identity Discrimination Harmonization Loss (CIDHL) adjusting the distribution of samples in the hyperspherical feature space, pulling the centers of samples with the same identity closer, and pushing away the centers of samples with different identities while aggregating samples with the same modality and the same identity. Furthermore, we propose a Modality Bridge Similarity Optimization Strategy (MBSOS) to optimize the cross-modality similarity between the query and queried samples with the help of the similar bridge sample in the gallery. Extensive experiments demonstrate that compared to the original performance of existing cross-modality methods on MM-ReID, the addition of our CIDHL and MBSOS demonstrates a general improvement. © 2024, CC BY.

Audio Video Coding Standard (AVS) Intelligent Coding Group mainly studies video coding tools based on neural network technology and its potential benefit for next generation video coding. Extensive efforts have been dedicated to the research on neural network (NN) based coding tools. In this paper, we present a novel NN based video coding framework by leveraging the supervised trained NN models for multiple modules in the hybrid coding framework, from the predictive coding to the in-loop filtering. Specifically, NN based intra prediction models the non-linear mapping from contextual pixels to the predictions. The inter prediction efficiency is enhanced by introducing a virtual reference frame (VRF) network. The convolutional neural network based loop filtering (CNNLF) with discriminative model selection exploits the texture adaptivity. The experimental results show that the CNNLF, NN Intra, and VRF models can bring 8.60%, 1.02%, and 2.26% luma BD-rate reduction under random access (RA) configuration compared with AVS reference software HPM13.0. Additional experiments with the combined three NN coding tools reveal that around 13% YUV BD-rate reduction could be obtained. The proposed framework opens novel sights for next generation video coding from the intelligent coding perspective.

Streaming Graph Pattern Mining (GPM) has been widely used in many application fields. However, the existing streaming GPM solution suffers from many unnecessary explorations and isomorphism tests, while the existing static GPM ones require many repetitive operations to compute the full graph. In this paper, we propose a pattern-aware incremental execution approach and design the first streaming GPM accelerator called PSMiner, which integrates multiple optimizations to reduce redundant computation and improve computing efficiency. We have conducted extensive experiments. The results show that compared with the state-of-the-art software and hardware solutions, PSMiner achieves the average speedups of 770.9× and 60.4×, respectively.
