—Event cameras are emerging imaging technology that offers advantages over conventional frame-based imaging sensors in dynamic range and sensing speed. Complementing the rich texture and color perception of traditional image frames, the hybrid camera system of event and frame-based cameras enables high-performance imaging. With the assistance of event cameras, high-quality image/video enhancement methods make it possible to break the limits of traditional frame-based cameras, especially exposure time, resolution, dynamic range, and frame rate limits. This paper focuses on five event-aided image and video enhancement tasks (i.e., event-based video reconstruction, event-aided high frame rate video reconstruction, image deblurring, image super-resolution, and high dynamic range image reconstruction), provides an analysis of the effects of different event properties, a real-captured and ground truth labeled benchmark dataset, a unified benchmarking of state-of-the-art methods, and an evaluation for two mainstream event simulators. In detail, this paper collects a real-captured evaluation dataset EVENTAID for five event-aided image/video enhancement tasks, by using "Event-RGB" multi-camera hybrid system, taking into account scene diversity and spatiotemporal synchronization. We further perform quantitative and visual comparisons for state-of-the-art algorithms, provide a controlled experiment to analyze the performance limit of event-aided image deblurring methods, and discuss open problems to inspire future research. The occurrence of geological disasters can have a large impact on urban safety. Protecting people’s safety is the most important concern when disasters occur. Safety improvement requires a large amount of comprehensive and representative risk analysis and a large collection of information related to geological hazards, including unstructured knowledge and experience. To address the relevant information and support safety risk analysis, a geological hazard knowledge graph is developed automatically based on computer vision and domain-geoscience ontology to identify geological hazards from input images while obeying safety rules and regulations, even when affected by changes. In the implementation of the knowledge graph, we design an ontology schema of geological disasters based on a top-down approach, and by organizing knowledge as a logical semantic expression, it can be shared using ontology technologies and therefore enable semantic interoperability. computer vision approaches are then used to automatically detect a set of entities and attributes, using the data from input images, and object types and their attributes are identified so that they can be stored in Neo4j for reasoning and searching. Finally, a reasoning model for geological hazard identification was developed using the Neo4j database to create nodes, relationships, and their properties for modeling, and geological hazards in the images can be automatically identified by searching the Neo4j database. An application on geological hazard is presented. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach in terms of identifying possible potential hazards in geological hazards and assisting in formulating targeted preventive measures.

Scalable Transactional Stream Processing on Multicore Processors

Transactional stream processing engines (TSPEs) are central to modern stream applications handling shared mutable states. However, their full potential, particularly in adaptive scheduling, remains largely unexplored. We present MorphStream, a TSPE designed to optimize parallelism and performance for transactional stream processing on multicores. Through a unique three-stage execution paradigm (i.e., planning, scheduling, and execution), MorphStream enables adaptive scheduling under varying workload characteristics. Building on this foundation, MorphStream is further enhanced with support for non-deterministic state access, employing a stateful task precedence graph to handle undefined read/write sets at runtime while guaranteeing transaction semantics. Additionally, MorphStream incorporates a generalized framework for managing window-based operations, enabling efficient tracking and maintenance of overlapping windows using multi-versioned state management. These extensions enhance the system's ability to process dynamic and irregular workloads. Experimental results demonstrate up to 3.4 times higher throughput and 69.1% lower latency compared to state-of-the-art TSPEs, validating its scalability and adaptability in real-world streaming scenarios. © 1989-2012 IEEE.

To keep up with the dynamic nature of the modern classroom, teachers must have access to online learning platforms for professional development purposes. This investigation looks at how these platforms can be used to improve teachers' skills, make information sharing easier, and open doors to CPD opportunities. This study examines the relationship between online resources and methods to demonstrate how digital tools have an impact on teacher training and professional development by leveraging AI. It also draws attention to the fact that these platforms are helping with information-methodological support for teachers as well as the ongoing reforms in our nation. Incorporating empirical observations and case studies, the analysis demonstrates how effective online platforms are in fostering a collaborative and innovative environment for professional learning. Digital transformation has the potential to radically alter how teachers obtain professional development, and this study emphasizes that fact. This will enable teachers to effectively address the demands of modern classrooms. © 2024 IEEE.

Recently, semi-supervised learning methods are being actively developed to increase the performance of neural networks by using large amounts of unlabeled data. Among these techniques, pseudo-labeling methods have the advantage of low computational complexity, but are vulnerable to missing annotations. To solve this problem, we propose a method called uncertainty-based consistency regularization (UCR). UCR models a detection head to obtain different outputs for input images and computes a feature map of each. Subsequently, these feature maps are matched with the original and filtered ground truth (GT), and are classified as positive and negative samples, respectively. In this process, missing samples are generated by the filtered GT; therefore, we use a specialized loss function designed to reduce the logit difference of the samples for robustness against missing annotations. We also use the uncertainty extracted through Gaussian modeling as a criterion for annotation filtering to train the network to focus on reliable results. As a result of experiments with an SSD model on the Pascal VOC dataset, the proposed approach achieved an improvement of 0.7% in terms of mAP compared to a baseline method.

Waves seriously impact port construction, worldwide route planning, military activities, and wave power generation. To improve the accuracy of significant wave height prediction, we proposed a novel prediction method, a multi-layer perceptron combined with a backpropagation adjustment (MLP-BP) prediction model that combines mutation mode decomposition (VMD) and a simulated annealing optimization algorithm (SA). Firstly, we use the variable modulus method to decompose the significant wave height sequence data and transform the wave height sequence into multiple different sub-modes (IMF) to reduce the complexity and non-stationarity of the data. Secondly, the simulated annealing algorithm (SA) is used to optimize the weight and bias of the MLP-BP neural network to find the optimal parameter configuration and improve the performance and generalization ability of the prediction model. Finally, the decomposed sub-modal components of each significant wave height sequence are inserted into the MLP-BP neural network and the predicted values of each element are summed to obtain the final significant wave height prediction. The prediction results of the SSA-MLP-BP, PSO-MLP-BP, SA-MLP-BP, and VMD-SA-MLP-BP were compared and demonstrated that the VMD-SA-MLP-BP model performed best. The MAE, MAPE, MSE, RMSE, and R2 of the prediction evaluation indexes were 0.036 m, 11.7%, 0.004 m2, 0.067 m, and 0.983, respectively, which performed well in predicting significant wave height. © 2023 IEEE.

Battery fault diagnosis is essential for ensuring the reliability and safety of electric vehicles(EVs).The existing battery fault diagnosis methods are difficult to detect faults at an early stage based on the real-world vehicle data since lithium-ion battery systems are usually accompanied by inconsistencies,which are difficult to distinguish from faults.A fault diagnosis method based on signal decomposition and two-dimensional feature clustering is introduced in this *** geometry mode decomposition(SGMD)is introduced to obtain the components characterizing battery states,and distance-based similarity measures with the normalized extended average voltage and dynamic time warping distances are established to evaluate the state of *** 2-dimensional feature clustering based on DBSCAN is developed to reduce the number of feature thresholds and differentiate flaw cells from the battery pack with only one parameter under a wide range of *** proposed method can achieve fault diagnosis and voltage anomaly identification as early as 43 days ahead of the thermal *** the results of four electric vehicles and the comparison with other traditional methods validated the proposed method with strong robustness,high reliability,and long time scale warning,and the method is easy to implement online.

Diffusion models have demonstrated remarkable efficacy in generating high-quality samples. Existing diffusion-based image restoration algorithms exploit pre-trained diffusion models to leverage data priors, yet they still preserve elements inherited from the unconditional generation paradigm. These strategies initiate the denoising process with pure white noise and incorporate random noise at each generative step, leading to over-smoothed results. In this paper, we present a refined paradigm for diffusion-based image restoration. Specifically, we opt for a sample consistent with the measurement identity at each generative step, exploiting the sampling selection as an avenue for output stability and enhancement. The number of candidate samples used for selection is adaptively determined based on the signal-to-noise ratio of the timestep. Additionally, we start the restoration process with an initialization combined with the measurement signal, providing supplementary information to better align the generative process. Extensive experimental results and analyses validate that our proposed method significantly enhances image restoration performance while consuming negligible additional computational resources. © 2024 ACM.
