A green, secure, and deep intelligent method for dynamic IoT-edge-cloud offloading scenarios

To fulfill people's expectations for smart and user-friendly Internet of Things (IoT) applications, the quantity of processing is fast expanding, and task latency constraints are becoming extremely rigorous. On the other hand, the limited battery capacity of IoT objects severely affects the user experience. Energy Harvesting (EH) technology enables green energy to offer a continuous energy supply for IoT objects. It provides a solid assurance for the proper functioning of resource-constrained IoT objects when combined with the maturation of edge platforms and the development of parallel computing. The Markov Decision Process (MDP) and Deep Learning (DL) are used in this work to solve dynamic online/offline IoT-edge offloading scenarios. The suggested system may be used in both offline and online contexts and meets the user's quality of service expectations. Also, we investigate a blockchain scenario in which edge and cloud could work toward task offloading to address the tradeoff between limited processing power and high latency while ensuring data integrity during the offloading process. We provide a double Q-learning solution to the MDP issue that maximizes the acceptable offline offloading methods. During exploration, Transfer Learning (TL) is employed to quicken convergence by reducing pointless exploration. Although the recently promoted Deep Q-Network (DQN) may address this space complexity issue by replacing the huge Q-table in standard Q-learning with a Deep Neural Network (DNN), its learning speed may still be insufficient for IoT apps. In light of this, our work introduces a novel learning algorithm known as deep Post-Decision State (PDS)-learning, which combines the PDS-learning approach with the classic DQN. The system component in the proposed system can be dynamically chosen and modified to decrease object energy usage and delay. Document-level entity relation extraction is an important task in the field of natural language processing, which plays an important role in semantic understanding and knowledge graph construction. However, existing deep neural networks and graph neural networks models are limited by their performance and parameters number, which can not capture global semantics and have poor generalization ability. Furthermore, existing methods employing large language model for entity relation extraction do not establish good relationships among multi-tasks of entity relation extraction task, resulting in more information can not be effectively shared and transmitted between tasks. In addition, previous approaches can not effectively eliminate false entities and relationships. To solve these problems, we propose an entity relation extraction framework based on large language model and multi-tasks iterative prompt engineering. In our model, we design an iterative prompt engineering, which can better establish the relationship among multi-tasks, and ensure every task to obtain the optimal results. Moreover, we design semantic merging, group disambiguation and self-verification modules to eliminate the false entity relations and noise nodes. Additionally, we design summary prompts to provide sufficient global semantics for better text segmentation. Finally, we evaluated our model on wikiann, wikineural, ACE2005, CoNLL2003, CoNLL2004, and SciERC datasets and compared it with other baseline models.

Personalized News Recommendation (PNR) can enhance user experience by alleviating information overload. Traditional news recommendation methods consider all clicking behaviors as user interests, resulting in biased user modeling that fails to accurately capture user interests. In addition, although there are methods to reduce the impact of low-quality news at the representation level by simply filtering it through the attention mechanism. However, this only implicitly models the news in the interaction sequence without specifically considering the quality of each news, and thus has very limited effect in identifying noise. To address these issues, this paper proposes News Recommendation method based on News Quality-aware modeling (NQNR). We attempt to explicitly model the news in the click sequence and candidate ranking one by one to visually assess the quality of each news. Specifically, we design a detection module to detect whether the input news is low-quality news. Then, by reducing the influence of low-quality news in user modeling and candidate ranking, user interests are modeled more accurately, while recommendations of such news are reduced for users. In addition, to capture the similarity of vectors more accurately, we also design a similarity computation method based on the multiple attention mechanism in the detection module. Experiments on a large real-world Microsoft News Dataset (MIND) show that our model significantly outperforms previous models. Our code is posted at the following URL: https://***/xxbbjj/NQNR-.

This paper proposes a framework for fuzzy temporal association rule mining based on density clustering optimization, aimed at improving the fuzzification of continuous attributes and enhancing the efficiency of mining temporal association rules. The first part of the framework effectively handles continuous attribute data and reduces data redundancy by adopting a density peak clustering algorithm and designing an optimized membership function. The second part introduces a fuzzy list ranking structure combined with item lifespan to mine fuzzy temporal association rules. Experimental results demonstrate that the framework exhibits superior performance in mining fuzzy temporal association rules and outperforms advanced algorithms in handling continuous attributes.

Nature-inspired algorithms revolve around the intersection of nature-inspired algorithms and the IoT within the healthcare domain. This domain addresses the emerging trends and potential synergies between nature-inspired computational approaches and IoT technologies for advancing healthcare services. Our research aims to fill gaps in addressing algorithmic integration challenges, real-world implementation issues, and the efficacy of nature-inspired algorithms in IoT-based healthcare. We provide insights into the practical aspects and limitations of such applications through a systematic literature review. Specifically, we address the need for a comprehensive understanding of the applications of nature-inspired algorithms in IoT-based healthcare, identifying gaps such as the lack of standardized evaluation metrics and studies on integration challenges and security considerations. By bridging these gaps, our paper offers insights and directions for future research in this domain, exploring the diverse landscape of nature-inspired algorithms in healthcare. Our chosen methodology is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to investigate related papers rigorously. Categorizing these algorithms into groups such as genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimization, cuckoo algorithms, ant colony optimization, other approaches, and hybrid methods, we employ meticulous classification based on critical criteria. MATLAB emerges as the predominant programming language, constituting 37.9% of cases, showcasing a prevalent choice among researchers. Our evaluation emphasizes adaptability as the paramount parameter, accounting for 18.4% of considerations. By shedding light on attributes, limitations, and potential directions for future research and development, this review aims to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of nature-inspired algorithms in the dynamic landscape of IoT-based healthcare services. © 2024 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Emotion Recognition in Conversations (ERC) is a widely applicable task, whether in emotional chatbots or recommender systems for dialog scenarios. The ability of systems to accurately identify human emotions is a crucial component in ERC success. In everyday conversations, a speaker’s emotional expression is closely tied to their individual characteristics and personality traits. Furthermore, individuals exhibit significant variations in their expressions of the same emotion. Traditional methods for ERC often overlook these personality differences and dynamic changes, leading to unreliable results. To address this issue, we propose a conversation emotion recognition model based on dynamic modeling of speaker’s personality (ERC DMSP). In our approach, to extract a speaker’s personality profile, we design a personality capture module to model the personalities of individuals based on their historical utterances. Moreover, a bidirectional influence exists between a speaker’s personality tendencies and their linguistic behavior. The speaker’s personality profile is thus continually updated based on the ongoing dialog. Additionally, since the personalities of other speakers in the conversation can also affect the form and intensity of a speaker’s emotional expression, we construct a conversation emotion representation utilizing group personality traits. We then comprehensively incorporate the speaker’s personality into the emotion representation of each utterance at both the group and individual levels through the personality engagement module. Throughout this process, the representation of dialog and the speaker’s personality undergo hierarchical updates, leading to more accurate conversation emotion recognition. We conducted extensive experiments on four commonly used public benchmark datasets for ERC to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed ERC DMSP model. Personalized news recommendation is the process of predicting the relevance of news to users and recommending news to user to fulfill their information needs. However, existing news recommendation methods extract semantic information from users and candidate news respectively, ignoring semantic interaction information between users and candidate news. Furthermore, previous models only use same node types for message passing, ignoring different characteristics and topology between different node types. In addition, existing methods learn news representations through text representations, ignoring semantic correlation information between entity relationships and texts. To solve these problems, we propose a personalized news recommendation model named CoHG. In our model, we design a collaborative fusion module to obtain semantic interaction information through interacting user history news with candidate news. Furthermore, we design a heterogeneous gated graph neural network that maps different node types into a same space to extract higher-order information in user graphs for message passing. Moreover, we design an enhanced relevant attention module to enhance semantic correlation information of text content by aggregating text representation and entity representation into a unified representation. Finally, we conducted experiments on MIND and Adressa datasets to compare with other baseline models.

Classification of Malicious Traffic in Iot Network Under Various Encryption Schemes

Encrypted Malicious Traffic (EMT) classification is crucial in Internet of Things (IoT) networks, securing the communication encrypted by various lightweight schemes for IoT devices. However, existing classification frameworks require high computational power and have accuracies that are susceptible to the variety of encryption in IoT. Here, we propose a novel framework (named SSPP), utilizing three lightweight models that take encryption-independent features for EMT classification. According to the experiments, SSPP achieves and maintains 97.54% accuracy in three encrypted IoT environments, whereas state-of-the-art EMT classification frameworks drop to 76% and 81%. Moreover, SSPP requires 84.14% lower storage and 99.52% less computation than the others. The results show that SSPP is suitable for IoT devices and adaptable to the variety of encryption in IoT networks. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

With the continuous development of software open-sourcing, the reuse of open-source software has led to a significant increase in the occurrence of recurring vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities often arise through the practice of copying and pasting existing vulnerabilities. Many methods have been proposed for detecting recurring vulnerabilities, but they often struggle to ensure both high efficiency and consideration of semantic information about vulnerabilities and patches. In this paper, we introduce FIRE, a scalable method for large-scale recurring vulnerability detection. It utilizes multi-stage filtering and differential taint paths to achieve precise clone vulnerability scanning at an extensive scale. In our evaluation across ten open-source software projects, FIRE demonstrates a precision of 90.0% in detecting 298 recurring vulnerabilities out of 385 ground truth instance. This surpasses the performance of existing advanced recurring vulnerability detection tools, detecting 31.4% more vulnerabilities than VUDDY and 47.0% more than MOVERY. When detecting vulnerabilities in large-scale software, FIRE outperforms MOVERY by saving about twice the time, enabling the scanning of recurring vulnerabilities on an ultra-large scale.

Mitigating Microbursts by Packet Recirculation in Programmable Switch

Microburst is a severe issue in 5G networks, causing packet drop and high latency. Recent research has applied programmable switches to detect and mitigate microbursts in real time. However, existing systems suffer from three major problems, including high transmission delay, high packet drop rate, and possible mitigation failure. Here, we proposed Programmable Switch-base Microburst Mitigation (PSMM) to solve the problems with (1) in-switch recirculation and (2) analytical threshold determination. The in-switch recirculation avoids the need for packet detour during the microburst mitigation, lowering the transmission delay and packet drop rate. The analytical threshold determination provides practical threshold settings to prevent mitigation failure. According to the experiments, PSMM reduces the packet drops and latency by 97.8% and 26%, respectively, compared to the state-of-the-art systems. The results show that utilizing packet recirculation for microburst mitigation can effectively increase the reliability of networks. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
