Early diagnosis of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) can inhibit the progression and improve femoral head preservation. The radiograph difference between early ONFH and healthy ones is not apparent to the naked eye. It is also hard to produce a large dataset to train the classification model. In this paper, we propose Asymmetric-Sensitive Transformer (AsT) to capture the uneven development of the bilateral femoral head to enable robust ONFH detection. Our ONFH detection is realized using the self-attention mechanism to femoral head regions while conferring sensitivity to the uneven development by the attention-shared transformer. The real-world experiment studies show that AsT achieves the best performance of AUC 0.9313 in the early diagnosis of ONFH and can find out misdiagnosis cases firmly. Purpose - This study attempts to recognize the effects of the Pakistan-China free trade agreements (PCFTA) on promoting trade between the two economies. Design/methodology/approach - Following the concept of revealed comparative advantage (RCA) and free trade agreements, the study first identifies those commodities in which Pakistan and China have a robust RCA and then analyze the effect of PCFTA on the export value of those commodities for the bilateral trade between Pakistan and China. The study used the panel data in which more than the top 150 importers (j) have been selected for each case of Pakistan and China for the period of 2003-2015. Findings - The study concludes that even with the higher convergence rate, the good RCA does not guarantee a positive effect of the free trade agreement on the commodities. Originality/value - The study contributes to the existing literature by integrating RCA with the gravity model by adopting a sequential mode for Pakistan-China free trade agreement. © 2023 The Author(s).

SWLBM is a software framework based on Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) for Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) running on Sunway many-core processors. In this paper, we review the achievements of code developing in early stage and introduce the development progress recently of this software, including the development of parallel optimization for Sunway new-generation supercomputing system, functional extensions of the software like pre-process function for mesh generation from a geometry file with STL file and BMP file, Immersed boundary condition for moving subject simulation. Some applications with SWLBM will be introduced to show the advantage of this software over other CFD code in large-scale simulations. SWLBM is still under development, with the continuous improvement of functions, it will play a greater role in the field of fluid simulation. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Most supercomputers adopt a data forwarding architecture to achieve storage scalability. However, it results in a significant reduction in single-process bandwidth compared to direct file system access. Moreover, considering that a majority of applications uses only a single process for writing and reading data, the low single-process performance also leads to a time overhead for these applications. This paper proposes an userspace forwarding mechanism DFBUFFER with two performance optimization methods: user-space multi-thread request processing and data write buffer in a unit of file. The client of DFBUFFER is embedded in the application as a library reducing the software overhead, and the server implements multi-thread I/O request processing to improve bandwidth efficiency. The data write buffer can asynchronously handle write requests, which accelerates the write bandwidth of compute nodes. We evaluate DFBUFFER on the Sunway exascale prototype system. The results indicate that in the regular mode of DFBUFFER, both the write and read latency are reduced, and the write bandwidth and large-block read bandwidth of single-process are increased by 1.8 times and 2.8 times respectively. The DFBUFFER buffer mode increases the write bandwidth of a single process by 0.8 times over the regular mode. Although the performance advantage of the regular mode of DFBUFFER gradually weakens with the increase of concurrent processes, the DFBUFFER buffer mode has the effect of improving the write bandwidth, the 64-IO-processes application is increased by 0.2 times.

People are increasingly concerned about how tectonic processes affect climate and vice versa. We establish a cross-sphere modeling system for volcanic eruptions and atmosphere circulation on a new Sunway supercomputer with a spatial resolution from 10m locally to 3km globally, using an improved multimedium and mul-tiphase smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) combined with a fully coupled meteorology-chemistry global atmospheric modeling scheme. We achieve 400 billion particles and 80% parallel efficiency using 39,000,000 processor cores. The simulation captures the whole dynamic process of the Tonga eruption from shock waves, earth-quakes, tsunamis, mushroom clouds to the following 6–7 days of transport and diffusion of ash and water vapor, and preliminarily obtains the influence effect of full coupling of volcano, earthquake, ocean and atmosphere. This work is of great significance for deeply understanding the interaction between tectonic processes and climate change, and establishing an early warning simulation system for similar global hazard events.

Different diseases in grapevines have different kinds of effects on the various parts of the plant, the most drastic of such abnormalities easily seen in the leaves of the grapevines. Detection, diagnosis and prevention of diseases that could hinder the production and utilisation of the grapevine are of prime importance in viticulture. In view of the multiple hazards associated with viticulture, it is worthwhile to build on the optimisation and automation in the field. This study presents a methodology to marry the different aspects of computational mechanisms, i.e. neural network approaches along with different optimisation approaches, and apply them to diagnose the diseases that a said grapevine might suffer from. The objectives were, thus: (1) to be able to identify which disease corresponds to the effects shown in the leaves of the particular grapevine, (2) to make a robust identification mechanism by using methodologies of deep learning and soft computing, and (3) to make use of different such methodologies and infer which of those methodologies would work the best in this context. As a result, we mostly compared a 10 layer-feed forward neural network with a 34 layer-Resnet. We also employed other CNN methodologies like Densenet, VGG and Alexnet but found that they did not provide the best results in this context. Further, we hybridised these approaches with several optimisation algorithms, like the Jaya Algorithm, the Genetic Algorithm, the Particle Swarm Optimisation Algorithm, etc. We found that a hybrid Resnet-Jaya model gave the best output without overfitting, at 99.71%. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

AdaFedProx: A Heterogeneity-Aware Federated Deep Reinforcement Learning for Medical Image Classification

In the realm of smart healthcare, vast amounts of valuable patient data are generated worldwide. However, healthcare providers face challenges in data sharing due to privacy concerns. Federated learning (FL) offers a privacy-preserving solution by enabling collaborative model training without direct access to patient data. This decentralized approach utilizes data from diverse sources, resulting in a globally learned model with satisfactory performance across individual sites. However, federated training encounters challenges such as "system heterogeneity"in client specifications and "data heterogeneity"in imbalanced data distribution. Standard FL methods become unstable and require extensive hyperparameter tuning for optimal performance when facing heterogeneous clients, posing challenges in real-world applications. This research introduces a novel heterogeneity-aware federated learning approach named AdaFedProx to address the performance degradation resulting from heterogeneity. AdaFedProx utilizes a reinforcement learning-driven strategy, introducing a tailored proximal term into the objective function to incorporate partial client information in heterogeneous settings. Dynamically determining the proximal term based on individual client states, including critical characteristics like data distribution, system specification, and performance feedback, empowers AdaFedProx to make regularized decisions throughout the federated training. AdaFedProx consistently outperforms four state-of-the-art methods on three medical datasets across diverse heterogeneity settings (0%, 50%, and 75% straggler).
