Emoticons have been widely employed to express different types of moods, emotions, and feelings in microblog environments. They are therefore regarded as one of the most important signals for microblog sentiment analysis. Most existing studies use several emoticons that convey clear emotional meanings as noisy sentiment labels or similar sentiment indicators. However, in practical microblog environments, tens or even hundreds of emoticons are frequently adopted and all emoticons have their own unique emotional meanings. Besides, a considerable number of emoticons do not have clear emotional meanings. An improved sentiment analysis model should not overlook these phenomena. Instead of manually assigning sentiment labels to several emoticons that convey relatively clear meanings, we propose the emoticon space model （ESM） that leverages more emotieons to construct word representations from a massive amount of unlabeled data. By projecting words and microblog posts into an emoticon space, the proposed model helps identify subjectivity, polarity, and emotion in microblog environments. The experimental results for a public microblog benchmark corpus （NLP＆CC 2013） indicate that ESM effectively leverages emoticon signals best runs. and outperforms previous state-of-the-art strategies and benchmark

Decision making is an important component in a speaker verification system. For the conventional GMM-UBM architecture, the decision is usually conducted based on the log likelihood ratio of the test utterance against the GMM of the claimed speaker and the UBM. This single-score decision is simple but tends to be sensitive to the complex variations in speech signals (e.g. text content, channel, speaking style, etc.). In this paper, we propose a decision making approach based on multiple scores derived from a set of cohort GMMs (cohort scores). Importantly, these cohort scores are not simply averaged as in conventional cohort methods;instead, we employ a powerful discriminative model as the decision maker. Experimental results show that the proposed method delivers substantial performance improvement over the baseline system, especially when a deep neural network (DNN) is used as the decision maker, and the DNN input involves some statistical features derived from the cohort scores.

The rubber production of Thailand increased not only by strong demand from the world market, but was also stimulated strongly through the replanting program of the Thai Government from 1961 onwards. With the continuous growth of rubber research data volume on the Web, the search for information has become a challenging task. Ontologies are used to improve the accuracy of information retrieval from the web by incorporating a degree of semantic analysis during the search. In this context, we propose an intelligent semantic search system for rubber research data in Thailand. The research methods included 1) analyzing domain knowledge, 2) ontologies development, and 3) intelligent semantic search system development to curate research data in trusted digital repositories may be shared among the wider Thailand rubber research community.

Background: The sustainable development goals (SDGs) aim to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Understanding the current state of the HIV epidemic and its change over time is essential to this effort. This study assesses the current sex-specific HIV burden in 204 countries and territories and measures progress in the control of the epidemic. Methods: To estimate age-specific and sex-specific trends in 48 of 204 countries, we extended the Estimation and Projection Package Age-Sex Model to also implement the spectrum paediatric model. We used this model in cases where age and sex specific HIV-seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care-clinic sentinel surveillance data were available. For the remaining 156 of 204 locations, we developed a cohort-incidence bias adjustment to derive incidence as a function of cause-of-death data from vital registration systems. The incidence was input to a custom Spectrum model. To assess progress, we measured the percentage change in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 (threshold >75% decline), the ratio of incident cases to number of people living with HIV (incidence-to-prevalence ratio threshold <0·03), and the ratio of incident cases to deaths (incidence-to-mortality ratio threshold <1·0). Findings: In 2019, there were 36·8 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 35·1–38·9) people living with HIV worldwide. There were 0·84 males (95% UI 0·78–0·91) per female living with HIV in 2019, 0·99 male infections (0·91–1·10) for every female infection, and 1·02 male deaths (0·95–1·10) per female death. Global progress in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 was driven by sub-Saharan Africa (with a 28·52% decrease in incident cases, 95% UI 19·58–35·43, and a 39·66% decrease in deaths, 36·49–42·36). Elsewhere, the incidence remained stable or increased, whereas deaths generally decreased. Far-field automatic speech recognition (ASR) is challenging, mainly attributed to the high reverberation in the recordings. A novel linear sparse prediction model has been proposed to estimate and suppress reverberation. This model considers reverberation as a mixture of early and late reflections of the direct signal and estimates the late reflection with Lasso. It has been demonstrated that this approach is promising in improving perceptual intelligibility, however it is unknown if the improvement can be propagated to ASR tasks. This paper applies the Lasso-based dereverberation approach to far-field speech recognition, and shows that it can deliver significant performance improvement for ASR based on deep neural networks (DNN). Particularly, we demonstrated that an utterance-based Lasso is sufficient to obtain good performance, which is important for applying the Lasso-based dereverberation to real-time ASR systems. © 2015 IEEE.

Context-dependent pronunciation, e.g. homographs, is a difficult grapheme-to-phoneme conversion (G2P) issue. It causes accuracy downgrade in speech synthesis and speech recognition. However, the context-dependent pronunciation issue is rarely considered in collecting pronunciation corpus for evaluating accuracy of G2P. Thus, this paper proposes a context-dependent pronunciation corpus using grapheme-phoneme pairs with their context information for G2P assessment. The context information includes 1) Categorial Matrix for representing orthographic types and usage domains of orthographic groups (OG). Categorial Matrix is designed to investigate problem categories in the G2P. 2) regular-expression-based flexible context for representing context variation. 3) OG Classes for representing interchangeable OGs in the flexible context. The flexible context and the word classes are designed to remove redundant contexts while covering context variation with minimal sets of patterns. By using the proposed corpus, automatic context generation for G2P evaluation can be implemented.

Background: High-resolution estimates of HIV burden across space and time provide an important tool for tracking and monitoring the progress of prevention and control efforts and assist with improving the precision and efficiency of targeting efforts. We aimed to assess HIV incidence and HIV mortality for all second-level administrative units across sub-Saharan Africa. Methods: In this modelling study, we developed a framework that used the geographically specific HIV prevalence data collected in seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care clinics to train a model that estimates HIV incidence and mortality among individuals aged 15–49 years. We used a model-based geostatistical framework to estimate HIV prevalence at the second administrative level in 44 countries in sub-Saharan Africa for 2000–18 and sought data on the number of individuals on antiretroviral therapy (ART) by second-level administrative unit. We then modified the Estimation and Projection Package (EPP) to use these HIV prevalence and treatment estimates to estimate HIV incidence and mortality by second-level administrative unit. Findings: The estimates suggest substantial variation in HIV incidence and mortality rates both between and within countries in sub-Saharan Africa, with 15 countries having a ten-times or greater difference in estimated HIV incidence between the second-level administrative units with the lowest and highest estimated incidence levels. Across all 44 countries in 2018, HIV incidence ranged from 2·8 (95% uncertainty interval 2·1–3·8) in Mauritania to 1585·9 (1369·4–1824·8) cases per 100 000 people in Lesotho and HIV mortality ranged from 0·8 (0·7–0·9) in Mauritania to 676·5 (513·6–888·0) deaths per 100 000 people in Lesotho. Towards the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community, there is a need to develop translation of documents among languages in those AEC countries. While it is hard to create a machine translation engine that can perfectly translates a source language (Thai) to a target language (English), as a more manual method the Translation Memory-based method just provides a translation of an input text by listing the translations of sentences that are similar to that input text. In this work, we propose a method to combine the fully automatic machine translation approach and the Translation Memory-based approach. Our proposed computer-assisted translation system retrieves the translation pairs which are similar to the current input and then flexibly modifies some parts in the translations using a dictionary or translations in a corpus. The system we have constructed is comprised of various tools that each has its own specialty function including GIZA++, Lucene, and MongoDB in which each tool's functions in the system are provided. We also show the overall components, process, and the techniques we use in our system. © 2014 IEEE.
