Recent studies have shown that protein complex is composed of core and attachment proteins, and proteins inside the core are highly co-expressed. Based on this new concept, we reconstruct weighted PPI network by using gene expression data, and develop a novel protein complex identification algorithm from the angle of edge(PCIA-GeCo). First, we select the edge with high co-expressed coefficient as seed to form the preliminary cores. Then, the preliminary cores are filtered according to the weighted density of complex core to obtain the unique core. Finally, the protein complexes are generated by identifying attachment proteins for each core. A comprehensive comparison in term of F-measure, Coverage rate between our method and three other existing algorithms HUNTeR, COACH and CORe has been made by comparing the predicted complexes against benchmark complexes. The evaluation results show our method PCIA-GeCo is effective;it can identify protein complexes more accurately. © 2013 Ieee.

Nematic and cholesteric liquid crystals are three-dimensional fluids that possess long-range orientational ordering and can support both topological defects and chiral superstructures. Implications of this ordering remain unexplored even for simple dynamic processes such as the ones found in so-called “fall experiments,” or motion of a spherical inclusion under the effects of gravity. Here we show that elastic and surface anchoring interactions prompt periodic dynamics of colloidal microparticles in confined cholesterics when gravity acts along the helical axis. We explore elastic interactions between colloidal microparticles and confining surfaces as well as with an aligned ground-state helical structure of cholesterics for different sizes of spheres relative to the cholesteric pitch, demonstrating unexpected departures from Stokes-like behavior at very low Reynolds numbers. We characterize metastable localization of microspheres under the effects of elastic and surface anchoring periodic potential landscapes seen by moving spheres, demonstrating the important roles played by anchoring memory, confinement, and topological defect transformation. These experimental findings are consistent with the results of numerical modeling performed through minimizing the total free energy due to colloidal inclusions at different locations along the helical axis and with respect to the confining substrates. A potential application emerging from this work is colloidal sorting based on particle shapes and sizes.

The dwarf spheroidal satellite galaxies (dSphs) of the Milky Way are some of the most dark matter (DM) dominated objects known. We report on γ-ray observations of Milky Way dSphs based on six years of Fermi Large Area Telescope data processed with the new Pass8 event-level analysis. None of the dSphs are significantly detected in γ rays, and we present upper limits on the DM annihilation cross section from a combined analysis of 15 dSphs. These constraints are among the strongest and most robust to date and lie below the canonical thermal relic cross section for DM of mass ≲100 GeV annihilating via quark and τ-lepton channels.

With the rapid growth of communication technologies, the widespread use of the Internet, and the recent introduction of e-services, the number of computer network security threats is dramatically increasing. This paper presents an efficient method for anomaly detection in network traffic. In this method, network traffic is decomposed into control and data planes. As the data traffic generation is based on control traffic, the behavior of the two planes is expected to be similar during normal behavior. Therefore, detecting dissimilarity (via cross-correlation) between the traffic of the two planes can indicate an abnormal behavior. Constant and adaptive thresholding techniques have been developed in this paper for the design of a false alarm rate intrusion detection processors. Simulation experiments have been carried out on a real traffic obtained at King Saud University at the end of 2012.
