technology-mediated learning has become a valuable tool, especially in theenglish language classroom. Nowadays, mobilelearning is considered a significant educational tool for promoting education among learners. Several recent studies have attempted to examine different aspects of mobilelearning. The size of theexperimental group, and the duration and suitability of the assessment methods are important aspects in designing experimental studies in the context of mobileenglish languagelearning. Yet, very few studies have paid attention to these aspects. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the utilisation of state-of-the-art mobiletechnology in english languagelearning, especially in terms of the size of theexperimental groups, and the duration and suitability of the assessment methods. Following a systematic review protocol, 151 articles published between 2010 and 2017 were selected for analysis. Furthermore, this study considered, separately, three factors addressed in the reviewed studies: language acquisition problems, types of participants, and targeted english skills. The findings showed that thegroup sizeandstudy durationsignificantly differed among the studies based on the above factors. Questionnaires and tests were found to be the most common methods ofassessmentfor each factor, whether used separately or in combination. The results of this review can assist in the formulation of experimental designs to mitigate the challenges and facilitate theeffective use of mobilelearning in english languagelearning.

Researchers have developed systems estimating mobile users’ receptivity for instant messaging (IM) [4]. However, it remains unclear how users would like their estimated status to be presented to their IM contacts. We developed an Android application that estimated a user’s receptivity status and conducted a mixed-method study with 37 IM users to understand how they wanted their estimated status to be presented, including eSM and semi-structured interviews. We found that participants preferred a textual presentation to show their receptivity status over both numeric and graphical presentation. Also, participants more often modified the status from showing interruptibility to showing attentiveness and/or responsiveness than the other way. It was because participants wanted their status more informative of how fast they could read and respond to messages. Participants also more often decreased their receptivity level than increased it to show that they were busy, either real or fake.
