作者: WILKINS, JR The Authorwas employed by Wheeler Industries Inc. during the summer of 1976. During this time he was involved with feasibility studies for a new Navy Repair Ship to be designated the ARX. In the Spring of 1977 he graduated from the University of Michigan College of Engineering Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. While at the University he was a Midshipman in the NROTC. He plans to continue his education at the University of Michigan and to receive his Masters degree in Ocean Engineering with immediate commissioning as an officer in the U.S. Navy upon the completion of his graduate program. A recent letter indicates he has completed his studies and is presently residing in Chula Vista Calif.

作者: Johnson, RA Garrett, SL Keolian, RM [?]1Robert Johnson holds a MSE in naval architecture from the University of Michigan a MS in engineering mechanics a BS in aerospace engineering and an associate in engineering in drafting and design technology all from The Pennsylvania State University. Currently he is the program manager for the TRITON Thermoacoustic Program and heads ARL Penn State's surface ship application effort in transferring new technology into the surface ship fleet. Over the last 15 years at ARL Penn State he served as program manager for marine composite applications programs as well as various ATD torpedo programs including the ADCAP upgrade. He spent 16 years working for the Navy where he served as Ship Design Manager for the MSH and Deputy Ship Design Manager for the DDG 51 class among other earlier duties. Mr. Johnson is a member of SNAME ASNE Tau Beta Pi the Association Scientists and Engineers (ASE) and recipient of the Navy's Meritorious Civilian Service Award.

Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and in 1950 he returned for three years postgraduate training following which in 1952 he was awarded a Professional Engineering Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. In 1968 he completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard. As an Engineering Duty Officer he has served in various Naval commands. Following the war he was assigned as Planning and Estimating Hull Assistant at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and as Assistant Design Superintendent at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He has had two tours of duty at the Naval Ship Systems Command formerly the Bureau of Ships. Since March 1969 he has been assigned to duty as Commander Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Portsmouth N. H.

He was designated Engineering Duty Officer (1400) in June 1958 and has had numerous engineering and industrial tours of duty. He has a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School (1965) and a Master's Degree in Business Administration (Systems Analysis) from the Defense Systems Analysis Program University of Rochester (1970). Upon completion of the latter he was ordered to The Center for Naval Analyses where he served as a cost analyst and shipbuilding/ship repair consultant. Additionally he was Project Officer for the Navy and the Environment Study. His present assignment is Director of Production Test and Integrated Logistic Support—LHA Project Naval Ship Systems Command. He is President of the CNA Sigma Xi Club and is active in the American Society of Naval Engineers. He has published articles in theASME Journal for PowertheJournal of the American Water Works Associationand theNaval Engineers Journal. Mr. Robert E. Borgstrom was graduated from the California State University at Northridge with a B.A. (1969) and an M.A. (1970) in Geography. He was Manager of Programming Services at the Laboratory for the Quantitative Analysis of Environmental and Spatial Systems and is presently with the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations assigned to the Center for Naval Analyses where his work has included studies of the Navy's program for environmental protection.

Graduated in 1948 and has become an Assistant Professor at the Department of Naval Architecture Technical University of Istanbul since 1953. His work is connected generally with problems of theoretical naval architecture. At the time of writing this paper Professor Kafali was a guest at the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It was there that he conducted the research on which the paper is based. The research in this paper was done with appointment supported by the I.C.A. under a program administered by the National Academy of Sciences.
