Indonesia is the world's largest archipelago with more than 17 000 islands, and the best marine tourism destination due to its beautiful beaches and underwater scenery, but Indonesia is also the most vulnerable country to be affected by climate change due to the greenhouse effect. Besides industry, the transportation sector is the highest contributor to the global greenhouse effect. In order to reduce the source of the greenhouse effect, the Indonesian Government has committed to using new and renewable energy as an alternative to fossil-based fuel. In an attempt to contribute to the Government's efforts and to advance the national marine tourism, the research is aimed to design water recreational and sport vessel that powered by a solar generated electric engine, as further development of Universitas Indonesia's solar boat participated in International Solar-boat Challenge competition in the Netherlands. The research is focused on the effective use of solar energy as the main source for powering the vessel's electrical engine, based on the existing optimum shape and dimensions of the boat. Information and data regarding the arrangement of the vessel, solar electric generation processes and vessel powering system obtained from literature study, discussion with experts, and on the spot surveys of various recreational vessels were used as input for the calculation and simulation of the vessel being investigated. The research results are expected could be further developed for other related usages such as fish farming, coastal fishing rig, floating restaurant, etc. © 2019 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

The common problem occurs in fish mapping using autonomous surface vehicles (ASV) is pitching stability. Some researchers have indicated that problem affects the results of mapping. The target of this system is to design an Autonomous Pitching System (APS) for ASV using numerical simulation software. The simulation is done by implement APS into the system, producing an oscillatory motion from the ASV. For both dynamics of craft in short and long periods, APS with proportional controller (P), proportional-integral controller (PI), and proportional-integral-derivative controller (PID) are developed in order to minimize the oscillatory behaviour. It was found that for the short period dynamics, the APS with PI controller was the optimal controller, followed by the PID controller and then the P controller. For the long period dynamics, the APS with PID controller was optimal. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

The study is aimed to assess the navigation safety in the port surrounding the area as part of the Indonesian Government°s efforts to increase the port performance and minimize the cost of maritime logistics. The port navigation system and infrastructure such as vessels traffic management system, navigation lanes, port basin, quay, etc. play an important role in determining the productivity and efficiency of the port, especially in the busy port such as Tanjung Priok, Indonesia. Any accident would interrupt port activities and creates unnecessary costs. Formal Safety Assessment method, as introduced by the International Maritime Organization was implemented in the study. The assessment was carried out using qualitative and quantitative risks analyses, based on the available data and information gathered from various sources. It was identified that accidents occurred in the port waterfront were mainly due to the ships, environment, human factors, and management. Results of the assessment were then used as the basis for proposing an improvement strategy. © 2019 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

A double hull tanker is one of the specific ships where the payload is liquid. The payload is an internal load and gives pressure inside the cargo hold. Besides, the external load like wave act simultaneously on the ship during the voyage. Therefore, the ultimate strength of the ship caused by the internal and external loads must be investigated. The objective of the present study is to investigate the ultimate strength characteristic of double hull oil tankers under hogging and sagging conditions. The cross-section of the double hull tanker is modeled using the finite element method to analyze the ultimate strength. The master node is applied to both sides of the cross-section to know the characteristic of the hull girder under hogging and sagging conditions. One side of the master node is constrained, and the other one is given by rotational force. The analytical method is performed, and the result obtained by the numerical method is then compared, including their characteristic in terms of moment-curvature relationship and deformation. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The main aim of this project is to develop a sustainable, safe & environmentally sound ship recycling industry in Indonesia. As the world's largest archipelago state, it is essential for Indonesia to maintain a large fleet of ships to ensure sufficient sea transportation. However, after completing their operational life, all these ships are required to be dismantled. Currently, there is no proper understanding & infrastructure for 'Ship Recycling' in Indonesia yet. This lack of understanding causes serious contamination of the sea which results in harming the environment. Furthermore, the working conditions are extremely poor because the yards are not fit for purpose and workers are exposed to many hazards. Referring to International Maritime Organization’s Hong Kong Convention a project is carried out to preparing the process of establishing green and sustainable ship recycling industry in Indonesia by conducting gap analyses and proposing environmentally friendly ship recycling yard concept. © 2019: The Royal Institution of naval Architects.

A planing hull high-speed ferry with a stepped hull becomes a well-liked mode of water transportation for archipelago countries. On the other hand, the shape of steps on the bottom hull has not been recently taken into explicit consideration regarding the speed requirement and hydrodynamic properties. In this study, the step W shapes, were adopted to find the improved hydrodynamic performance in the planing conditions. To provide a more precise prediction of the pressure, velocity fields, and void fraction, the CFD was applied the Finite Volume Method (FVM) and coupled with Volume of Fluid Method (VOF) to capture air cavity The numerical conditions of the planing hull were trimmed by the stern with 2, and 3 degrees. This study discussed the air cavity that occurred behind the stepped area that can affect the hydrodynamic behaviour. © 2023 by the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).

In order to introduce clean environment and sustainable energy to traditional coastal fishing community, the objective of this study is to encourage the Indonesian traditional coastal fishing community to use green and renewable energy in their fishing activities. Introducing solar power as the main source of energy for fish-attracting lights and boat propulsion can reduce the use of fossil fuels, and sustain clean and healthy environment. As the world’s largest archipelago, Indonesia accounts for a high percentage of traditional fishing communities spread out along its islands. This fishing communities use various traditional fishing boats, and platforms. The fishing platforms are usually made of bamboo and placed on top of supporting structures on the seabed. Diesel electric generators are used to obtain electricity needed for lighting to attract the fish at night, and as the source of power for lifting the fishing net. The structure and fuel used are neither environmentally friendly nor clean;thus, an innovation is introduced. Traditional fishing practices using a fishing platform were studied, including the common size of the platform and the power needed for the fishing light. Based on the gathered information, this study proposes a catamaran vessel with a special top structure designed for fish lifting outfitting, and equipped with photovoltaic solar cells as the energy source for the fishing lights and vessel propulsion. Through this innovative break through, the vessel can be moved to the shore and will not be a threat to ship navigation and the environment. Furthemore, powered by clean and sustainable energy, the vessel can be directed to the best fishing ground.

作者： GRAHAM, C The author is the NA VSEA Cruiser Project Manager Representative and SUPSHIP Newport News Project Officer for Nuclear Cruisers. He has served in three combatant ships including the Guided Missile Cruiser USS Gridley (CG–21) as Engineer Officer. He has had a tour of duty at the Naval Ship Engineering Center as a Ship Design Manager and as Director of the U. S./Soviet Comparative Ship Design Study. During duty in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OP–96). he was the Technical Assistant for the Advanced Naval Vehicles Concept Evaluation. Cdr. Graham taught Ship Design in the Naval Construction and Engineering curriculum at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and has recently developed a course in Comparative Naval Ship Design for the MIT Professional Summer Program. He has published over 15 articles is a frequent contributor to Naval Engineers Journal has been an active member of ASNE since 1969 presently serving as a member of the ASNE National Council and is also a member of SNAME.

Components of a naval ship should be designed and developed in a ship system environment. However, due to the requirement for developing subsystem components well before an actual ship design project is begun, because of the sheer size and complexity of the Navy's technical community, and due to certain budgetary and political pressures, components of ship subsystems are often designed in isolation from the design of the overall ship. Design tools are currently available to enable the Ship Design Community to work with ship subsystem engineers in establishing realistic physical constraints and for determining the impact of design alternatives. The paper describes how these design tools should be used to ensure components are designed in a systems environment. The principal conclusion of the article is that the Navy should establish a recognized policy that all ship component development be carried out with the objective of optimizing the ship system. One means of implementing such a policy is to form a team of ship designers that would provide the information which every ship subsystem engineer should know about ship design but does not ask.

He was designated Engineering Duty Officer (1400) in June 1958 and has had numerous engineering and industrial tours of duty. He has a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School (1965) and a Master's Degree in Business Administration (Systems Analysis) from the Defense Systems Analysis Program University of Rochester (1970). Upon completion of the latter he was ordered to The Center for Naval Analyses where he served as a cost analyst and shipbuilding/ship repair consultant. Additionally he was Project Officer for the Navy and the Environment Study. His present assignment is Director of Production Test and Integrated Logistic Support—LHA Project Naval Ship Systems Command. He is President of the CNA Sigma Xi Club and is active in the American Society of Naval Engineers. He has published articles in theASME Journal for PowertheJournal of the American Water Works Associationand theNaval Engineers Journal. Mr. Robert E. Borgstrom was graduated from the California State University at Northridge with a B.A. (1969) and an M.A. (1970) in Geography. He was Manager of Programming Services at the Laboratory for the Quantitative Analysis of Environmental and Spatial Systems and is presently with the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations assigned to the Center for Naval Analyses where his work has included studies of the Navy's program for environmental protection.

The problem of sewage and waste disposal from U. S. Navy ships is recognized by the highest authorities in the Navy. Many activities and individuals are deeply involved in the total problem and its numerous subcategories. The problem of costs of disposal is one of these. This paper discusses four optional methods for the disposal of shipboard domestic wastes. The annualized investment and operating costs associated with the implementation of each of the options are presented. The model considers non-nuclear, sea-going surface ships with a manning level greater than 50 men. Estimates were developed on a per ship per class basis and aggregated for the total surface fleet. This approach permits the inevstigation of different combinations of the options by merely specifying the number and type of ships to be considered in any option. Changes in military effectiveness, which is at least an equally important problem as costing, were not addressed.

Design of Fishing Boat for Pelabuhanratu Fishermen as One of Effort to Increase Production of Capture Fisheries

Design of fishing boat for Pelabuhanratu fisherman as one of effort to increase production of capture fisheries. The fishing boat should be proper for the characteristic of its service area, as; capacity of fishing boat up to 60 GT, the fishing boat has minimum 6 fish holds and location of fish hold in the middle body, the fishing boat hull has the bilge keel plate, and the material of hull fishing boat to be made of wooden, steel, aluminium, or fiberglass. Main dimesion of fishing boat is Length Over All = 25.436 m, Breadth = 4.55 m, Draft = 1.6 m, Speed = 12.5 knots. The research had been known every thing that will be supporting the production of capture fisheries like ; amount of fish production = 25.030 ton per day, the fishing port capacity approximately 268.957GT per day, the area of fishing port < 30 hectares, the zone of fish processing industry had not completed, therefore all data research result less than standard of Oceanic Fising Port. So Pelabuhanratu National Fishing Port can not be changed to Oceanic Fishing Port.
