Micro-Expression Recognition based on 2D Gabor Filter and Sparse Representation

Micro-expression recognition is always a challenging problem for its quick facial expression. This paper proposed a novel method named 2D Gabor filter and Sparse Representation (2DGSR) to deal with the recognition of micro-expression. In our method, 2D Gabor filter is used for enhancing the robustness of the variations due to increasing the discrimination power. While the sparse representation is applied to deal with the subtlety, and cast recognition as a sparse approximation problem. We compare our method to other popular methods in three spontaneous micro-expression recognition databases. The results show that our method has more excellent performance than other methods.

cloud service is considered to be an attempt to change the traditional calculation model and the revolutionary technology of the system architecture, whose idea is similar to the grid computing. For this infrastructure, programmer must take into consideration of many complex aspects: the distribution of data and computing, parallel computing on different domains, processors, computers and load balance issues. In this article, we first define an extended Pi calculus to solve the distribution of cloud service by extension of domain, migration application of abstraction process, and the high-order trait by extension of high-order functionality. Based on the proposed calculus, the high-order cloud service components and their compositions are defined by the terms of the calculus. Hence, the proposed Higher-Order cloud Service Component (HOCSC) is a novel SOA programming scheme, which can be widely used in a variety of cloud service environments. As a generic component, it can be parameterized and customized well. Unlike to the ordinary component, not only the data but also the running code can be customized. Compared to the First-Order cloud services and their compositions, the essential characteristics of Higher-Order ones lie in the abstraction, application and migration application of abstraction process. In view of the special construction of cloud service composition, necessary extensions to WSDL have been carried on to represent the real services. © 2016 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.

This paper introduces research and development results of extended functions on our network virtualization infrastructure which achieve advanced network virtualization. Our results achieved to meet five requirements which are resource abstraction, resource isolation, resource elasticity, deep programmability and authentication. In addition, we proposed evolvable architecture and extended network virtualization for edge network and terminals. We also deployed our system on JGN-X testbed.

Communication privacy and latency perceived by users have become great concerns for delay-sensitive Internet services. Existing anonymous communication systems either provide high anonymity at an expense of prolonged latency (e.g., mix-net), or offer better real-time performance by sacrificing the ability against traffic analysis attacks (e.g., Onion Routing). The emerging Software-Defined networking (SDN) introduces additional challenges to communication anonymity, due to the existence of a centralized controller that has a global view of the entire network traffic. In this paper, we propose a new anonymous communication scheme for delay-sensitive services under SDN scenarios, which can simultaneously protect communication privacy and reduce the end-to-end latency. A self-adaptive method based on the mix-net framework is designed to dynamically modify the waiting threshold of mix nodes, which helps to reduce the communication latency. In order to preserve the degree of anonymity, the self-adaptive method is incorporated with a random walking strategy for packets forwarding. Both theoretical analysis and experimental results prove that our scheme provides a moderate degree of anonymity and effectively reduces the latency derived from mix-net by up to 50%.

Reducing the flow latency is of great importance in traffic management, which benefits both service providers and end users. Routing design and flow scheduling are typical ways to improve the flow transmission efficiency. However, existing studies usually consider them separately, due to the complexity of joint consideration. Here, we propose a latency-aware routing scheme with bandwidth assignment in the Software Defined networks, which can efficiently reduce the flow latency with a moderate complexity, to combine the routing and scheduling together.

There is a growing trend for service providers (SPs) to migrate their multi-tier applications from local clusters to public cloud networks. In the cloud environment, it is a great concern of SPs to improve the availability of their virtual networks, in addition to guarantees of their virtual resource requirements, such as VMs and bandwidth. However, meeting these requirements results in an inefficient utilization of physical resources, which goes against the operational goal of cloud providers. To address this challenge, in this paper, we propose an availability-aware virtual network embedding framework that simultaneously improves the availability of virtual networks and the resource efficiency. We first propose a new metric to quantify the availability cost of a multi-tier virtual network, and then formulate the embedding problem as a joint optimization of the aggregated bandwidth and availability costs. Due to the NP-hardness of the embedding problem, we devise a heuristic algorithm that can solve the problem in polynomial time. Extensive simulation results show that the proposed algorithm enables CP to achieve various trade-offs between resource efficiency and availability, and to gain more revenue (e.g., 16.1% under a datacenter load of 80%) than the availability-agonistic algorithm.

Regenerating code is a class of storage codes that achieve the optimal trade-off between storage capacity and repair bandwidth, which are two important performance metrics in data storage systems. However, existing constructions of regenerating codes rely on expensive computational operations such as finite field multiplication. The high coding and repair complexity limit their applications in large-scale practical storage systems. In this paper, we show that it is possible to achieve the full potential of regenerating codes with low computational complexity. In particular, we propose a new class of regenerating codes, called BASIC codes, that can achieve two specific points (i.e., minimum-bandwidth and minimum-storage regenerating points) on the storage and repair bandwidth trade-off curve, using only binary addition and shift operations in the coding and repair processes. Although in this paper we focus on constructing and analyzing BASIC codes for two specific exact-repair settings, our framework can be generalized to develop BASIC codes for more general exact- and functional-repair regenerating codes.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is an effective way to improve urban traffic status. But, because of its complexity, it is difficult in its operation management and scheduling. In this article, based on ACP approach, Parallel BRT System is constructed, which can detect real-time passenger flow at stations, traffic flow at stations and intersections and queuing length of vehicles on the road; to provide short-term passenger and traffic saturation prediction in order to timely arrange transportation management and relieve congestion; to assess, improve and optimize the emergency management of holidays, events, accidents and other emergencies; to improve the quality of real-time scheduling functions based on the measurement results detected from videos, and so on. This system has been applied in Guangzhou Zhongshan Avenue BRT, which was applied for BRT's monitoring, warning, forecasting, emergency management, real-time scheduling and other needs, to guarantee BRT's smooth, safety, efficiency and reliability.

In terms of the difficulty of vehicle tracking in complex environment of the visual surveillance system, an object tracking algorithm is proposed for the applications in practical visual surveillance systems for intelligent traffic. A block-based Gaussian mixture background modeling method for object detection is presented to reduce the computational complexity of moving vehicle object abstraction. An adaptive tracking algorithm fused with color features and texture features is described to better adapt the traffic scene variation. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively deal with the complex urban traffic conditions and the tracking performance is better than the conventional particle filter method and single feature based non-adaptive object tracking method.
