This study presents a novel Supervised information Enhanced Contrastive Learning Algorithm for Parkinson’s Disease Detection (SI-CLAPD) based on Electroencephalography (EEG). SI-CLAPD performs contrastive learning in a multi-granularity manner on enhanced contextual views to achieve robust contextual representations for EEG, thus could contribute to improving the effectiveness of PD detection. Unlike existing methods for constructing PD detection models guided solely by classification loss, we propose a joint learning model that combines self-supervised contrastive learning with supervised classification learning. This model is optimized using both contrastive loss and classification loss, allowing it to capture subtle differences between EEG signals and representations that are specific to PD detection. Through extensive experimental evaluations, we demonstrate that SI-CLAPD achieves robust and high accuracy in PD detection tasks on three benchmark datasets. To the best of our knowledge, this study represents the first effort in validating the effectiveness of contrastive learning for the detection of PD. Besides, within the realm of contrastive learning research in EEG, it also represents the first endeavor to fuse supervised learning with self-supervised contrastive learning for EEG classification. This investigation unveils an universally applicable approach to EEG signal processing, with the potential to confer advantages to a multitude of EEG classification tasks.

G2Face: High-Fidelity Reversible Face Anonymization via Generative and Geometric Priors

Reversible face anonymization, unlike traditional face pixelization, seeks to replace sensitive identity information in facial images with synthesized alternatives, preserving privacy without sacrificing image clarity. Traditional methods, such as encoder-decoder networks, often result in significant loss of facial details due to their limited learning capacity. Additionally, relying on latent manipulation in pre-trained GANs can lead to changes in ID-irrelevant attributes, adversely affecting data utility due to GAN inversion inaccuracies. This paper introduces G2Face, which leverages both generative and geometric priors to enhance identity manipulation, achieving high-quality reversible face anonymization without compromising data utility. We utilize a 3D face model to extract geometric information from the input face, integrating it with a pre-trained GAN-based decoder. This synergy of generative and geometric priors allows the decoder to produce realistic anonymized faces with consistent geometry. Moreover, multi-scale facial features are extracted from the original face and combined with the decoder using our novel identity-aware feature fusion blocks (IFF). This integration enables precise blending of the generated facial patterns with the original ID-irrelevant features, resulting in accurate identity manipulation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art techniques in face anonymization and recovery, while preserving high data utility. Marine Wireless Rechargeable Sensor networks (MWRSNs), enhanced by recent Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology, present a significant advancement in extending network life. Traditional methods improve network performance through algorithm optimization, but neglect charging security, exposing networks to potential attacks. This paper addresses this problem from an adversarial view and develops a novel attack for MWRSN through Denying of Charge (DoC) to maximize network destructiveness. We start by establishing a generalized on-demand charging model, essential for developing DoC tactics. Subsequently, we unveil the Collaborative DoC (CoDoC) algorithm, capable of manipulating and falsifying charging requests. Central to CoDoC is the Request Prediction Method (RPM), which forecasts the initiation of charging requests and facilitates rapid request surges to enhance the attack's efficacy. CoDoC is able to disguise the presence of the attack, which is able to escape from being detected by the base station. Theoretical analyses are provided to explore the features of the proposed scheme. To demonstrate the outperformed features of the proposed schemes, extensive simulations and test-bed experiments are conducted. Our analysis and extensive simulations demonstrate that CoDoC increases sensor node failures by 20% to 142% compared to traditional methods, highlighting its effectiveness in marine environments. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Device Activity Detection in mMTC with Low-Resolution ADC: A New Protocol

This paper investigates the effect of low-resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) on device activity detection in massive machine-type communications (mMTC). The low-resolution ADCs induce two challenges on the device activity detection compared with the traditional setup with the assumption of infinite ADC resolution. First, the codebook design for signal quantization by the low-resolution ADC is particularly important since a good design of the codebook can lead to small quantization error on the received signal, which in turn has significant influence on the activity detector performance. To this end, prior information about the received signal power is needed, which depends on the number of active devices K. This is sharply different from the activity detection problem in traditional setups, in which the knowledge of K is not required by the BS as a prerequisite. Second, the covariance-based approach achieves good activity detection performance in traditional setups while it is not clear if it can still achieve good performance in this paper. To solve the above challenges, we propose a communication protocol that consists of an estimator for K and a detector for active device identities: 1) For the estimator, the technical difficulty is that the design of the ADC quantizer and the estimation of K are closely intertwined and doing one needs the information/execution from the other. We propose a progressive estimator which iteratively performs the estimation of K and the design of the ADC quantizer;2) For the activity detector, we propose a custom-designed stochastic gradient descent algorithm to estimate the active device identities. Due to the light absorption and scattering induced by the water medium, underwater images usually suffer from some degradation problems, such as low contrast, color distortion, and blurring details, which aggravate the difficulty of downstream underwater understanding tasks. Therefore, how to obtain clear and visually pleasant images has become a common concern of people, and the task of underwater image enhancement (UIE) has also emerged as the times require. Among existing UIE methods, Generative Adversarial networks (GANs) based methods perform well in visual aesthetics, while the physical model-based methods have better scene adaptability. Inheriting the advantages of the above two types of models, we propose a physical model-guided GAN model for UIE in this paper, referred to as PUGAN. The entire network is under the GAN architecture. On the one hand, we design a Parameters Estimation subnetwork (Par-subnet) to learn the parameters for physical model inversion, and use the generated color enhancement image as auxiliary information for the Two-Stream Interaction Enhancement subnetwork (TSIE-subnet). Meanwhile, we design a Degradation Quantization (DQ) module in TSIE-subnet to quantize scene degradation, thereby achieving reinforcing enhancement of key regions. On the other hand, we design the Dual-Discriminators for the style-content adversarial constraint, promoting the authenticity and visual aesthetics of the results. Extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets demonstrate that our PUGAN outperforms state-of-the-art methods in both qualitative and quantitative metrics. With the rapid development of mobile technology, mobile applications have increasing requirements for computational resources, and mobile devices can no longer meet these requirements. Mobile edge computing (MEC) has emerged in this context and has brought innovation into the working mode of traditional cloud computing. By provisioning edge server placement, the computing power of the cloud centre is distributed to the edge of the network. The abundant computational resources of edge servers compensate for the lack of mobile devices and shorten the communication delay between servers and users. Constituting a specific forms of edge servers, cloudlets have been widely studied within academia and industry in recent years. However, existing studies have mainly focused on computation offloading for general computing tasks under fixed cloudlet placement positions. They ignored the impact on computation offloading results from cloudlet placement positions and data dependencies among mobile application components. In this paper, we study the cloudlet placement problem based on Workflow Applications (WAs) in Wireless Metropolitan Area networks (WMANs). We devise a cloudlet placement strategy based on a Particle swarm optimization algorithm using Genetic algorithm operators with the Encoding Library updating mode (PGEL), which enables the cloudlet to be placed in appropriate positions. The simulation results show that the proposed strategy can obtain a near-optimal cloudlets placement scheme, and compared with other classic algorithms, this algorithm can reduce the execution time of WAs by 15.04%-44.99%. © 2021, CC BY.

Imagined speech production with electrocorticography (ECoG) plays a crucial role in brain-computer interface system. A challenging issue is the great variation underlying the frequency bands of the ECoG signals’ encode information, which makes current methods difficult to generate imagined speech with stable quality among different persons. To this end, we propose a robust model to generate high-quality imagined speech from ECoG. A frequency enhancement branch is first designed to adaptively modulate the frequency information, whose product is fed into the following multi-scale channel attention module for robust feature extraction and fusion. By incorporating both the mel-spectrum and audio as training constraints, a multi-constraint decoder branch is finally constructed for imagined speech production. The performance of our model is evaluated on a high-quality dateset, i.e, Single Word Production Dutch-iBIDS. It yields Pearson correlation scores that are all above 0.8, and the standard deviationsare are all below 0.2 in different volunteers. Experimental results demonstrate that our model is effective and robust for ECoG based imagined speech production, and has advantages over peer methods.

SONICUMOS is an enhanced behavior-based face liveness detection system that combines ultrasonic and video signals to sense the 3D head gestures. As face authentication becomes increasingly prevalent, the need for a reliable liveness detection system is paramount. Traditional behavior-based liveness detection methods (e.g., eye-blinking, nodding, etc.), which are widely deployed in mission-critical scenarios like finance and banking applications today, are prone to advanced media-based facial forgery attacks. SONICUMOS aims to incorporate the traditional behaviorbased method for active liveness detection without introducing extra user burden. By employing ultrasonic signals, SONICUMOS capitalizes on the head gestures, significantly raising the security bar. Our approach utilizes the frequency-modulated continuouswave (FMCW) ultrasonic radar for robust 3D gesture recognition compatible with face authentication. We also propose a new dual-feature fusion network that integrates audio and video features at the feature level to increase detection accuracy and resilience against numerous attacks. Our prototype has been tested on seven off-the-shelf Android/iOS smartphones, achieving an overall detection accuracy of 95.83% at an equal error rate (EER) of 4.96% when dealing with 3D impersonation attacks © 2025 IEEE.

The growing demand for location-based services in areas like virtual reality, robot control, and navigation has intensified the focus on indoor localization. Visible light positioning (VLP), leveraging visible light communications (VLC), becomes a promising indoor positioning technology due to its high accuracy and low cost. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of VLP systems. In particular, since VLC lays the foundation for VLP, we first present a detailed overview of the principles of VLC. Then, we provide an in-depth overview of VLP algorithms. The performance of each positioning algorithm is also compared in terms of various metrics such as accuracy, coverage, and orientation limitation. Beyond the physical layer studies, the network design for a VLP system is also investigated, including multi-access technologies, resource allocation, and light-emitting diode (LED) placements. Next, the applications of the VLP systems are overviewed. Finally, this paper outlines open issues, challenges, and opportunities for the research field. Satellite-aerial-ground integrated network (SAGIN) is considered to be an advanced architecture that offers seamless coverage, flexible access, and efficient connectivity. However, several challenges emerge during the construction of SAGINs, which include complex propagation environments and limited spectrum resources. The aforementioned challenges can be addressed in a cost effective manner by integrating simultaneous transmission and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (STAR-RISs). The STAR-RISs are capable of reflecting and transmitting the incident signals passively in order to serve users on both sides of the panel. Given the self-organizing nature of STAR-RIS-aided SAGINs, meticulous resource allocation and transmission strategy adaptation are imperative to accommodate changes in multiple communication node environments. Recently, federated learning has been envisioned as a pioneering distributed machine learning (ML) approach for managing the multi-objective optimization problem in STAR-RIS-aided SAGINs. This approach strives to balance the trade-offs between wireless communication performance and model efficiency. In this work, we present the advantages and potential directions for employing federated learning in STAR-RIS-aided SAGINs through multi-objectives optimization. Furthermore, to illustrate the practical application of federated learning in STAR-RIS-aided SAGINs, we present two case studies utilizing federated deep reinforcement learning, based on the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) scheme. © 2017 IEEE.
