Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has been regarded as a promising technology since it has ability to create the favorable channel conditions. This paper investigates the secure communications of RIS assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) networks, where both external and internal eavesdropping scenarios are taken into consideration. More specifically, novel approximate and asymptotic expressions of secrecy outage probability (SOP) for the k-th legitimate user (LU) are derived by invoking imperfect successive interference cancellation (ipSIC) and perfect successive interference cancellation (pSIC). To characterize the secrecy performance of RIS-NOMA networks, the diversity order of the k-th LU with ipSIC/pSIC is obtained in the high signal-to-noise ratio region. The secrecy system throughput of RIS-NOMA networks is discussed in delay-limited transmission mode. Numerical results are presented to verify theoretical analysis that: i) The SOP of RIS-NOMA networks is superior to that of RIS assisted orthogonal multiple access (OMA) and conventional cooperative communication schemes;ii) As the number of reflecting elements increases, the RIS-NOMA networks are capable of achieving the enhanced secrecy performance;and iii) The RIS-NOMA networks have better secrecy system throughput than that of RIS-OMA networks and conventional cooperative communication schemes. Next-generation wireless systems aim at fulfilling diverse application requirements but fundamentally rely on point-to-point transmission qualities. Aligning with recent AI-enabled wireless implementations, this paper introduces autonomic radios, 6G-AUTOR, that leverage novel algorithm-hardware separation platforms, softwarization of transmission (TX) and reception (RX) operations, and automatic reconfiguration of RF frontends, to support link performance and resilience. As a comprehensive transceiver solution, our design encompasses several ML-driven models, each enhancing a specific aspect of either TX or RX, leading to robust transceiver operation under tight constraints of future wireless systems. A data-driven radio management module was developed via deep Q-networks to support fast-reconfiguration of TX resource blocks (RB) and proactive multi-agent access. Also, a ResNet-inspired fast-beamforming solution was employed to enable robust communication to multiple receivers over the same RB, which has potential applications in realisation of cell-free infrastructures. As a receiver the system was equipped with a capability of ultra-broadband spectrum recognition. Apart from this, a fundamental tool - automatic modulation classification (AMC) which involves a complex correntropy extraction, followed by a convolutional neural network (CNN)based classification, and a deep learning-based LDPC decoder were added to improve the reception quality and radio performance. Simulations of individual algorithms demonstrate that under appropriate training, each of the corresponding radio functions have either outperformed or have performed on-par with the benchmark solutions. Enhanced by onboard computing resources and inter-satellite links (ISLs), large-scale satellite networks (SNs) can supplement terrestrial networks, facilitating real-time edge computing and transmission in remote areas at low latency. This capability benefits applications such as real-time remote object tracking, vehicular edge computing, and environmental monitoring. However, different from terrestrial vehicular networks, satellite mobility and the intermittent nature of ISLs often render many computing satellites inaccessible, necessitating efficient scheduling scheme for joint computing and communication resource allocation. To meet this requirement, we investigate joint computing and transmission strategy for real-time computing applications over SNs to reduce end-to-end delays. We formulate the real-time computing and transmission problem over time-varying SNs as an integer linear programming problem. The mathematical optimization method has an exponential time complexity of O(2|L⫟| . (4 |V⫟| + 4∣ L⫟|)2|L∣) in the worst case, which grows rapidly with the growth of network sizes. Here, |V⫟| and |L⫟| denote the number of nodes and links, respectively, within the time window {\tau }. Resorting to the designed k-shortest path-based method yields a worst-case complexity of O(|V⫟|! . |V⫟|3). While efficient under common scenarios, its running time is still relatively unstable and may become tens of times longer when computing resources become scarce. To enhance efficiency, we further design a graph-based algorithm that leverages the solution space's unique structure, thereby achieving optimal solutions with polynomial time complexity O(3|L⫟| + (2\log |V⫟|+1) |V⫟|). Extensive evaluations conducted on the world's largest Starlink system validate the efficacy of the designed methods and highlight their potential synergy. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

A fiber optic bolometer (FOB) was demonstrated observing a fusion plasma for the first time at the DIII-D tokamak. A FOB uses a fiber optics-based interferometric technique that is designed to have a high sensitivity to temperature changes [75 mK/(W/m2) responsivity in high vacuum with 0.38 mK noise level] with a negligible susceptibility to electromagnetic interference (EMI) that can be problematic for resistive bolometers in a tokamak environment. A single-channel test apparatus was installed on DIII-D consisting of a measurement FOB and shielded reference FOB. The single-channel FOB showed a negligible increase in the noise level during typical plasma operations (0.39 mK) compared to the benchtop results (0.38 mK), confirming an insignificant EMI impact to the FOB. Comparisons to DIII-D resistive bolometers showed good agreement with the single-channel FOB, indicating that the FOB is comparable to a resistive bolometer when the impulse calibration is applied. The noise-equivalent power density of the calibrated FOB during a plasma operation was 0.55 W/m2 with an average sampling time of 20 ms. The major potential effect of ionizing radiation on the FOB would be the radiation-induced attenuation, which can be efficiently compensated for by adjusting the probing light power. © 2022 Author(s).

For each smart home, the need of energy consumption supervision is necessary, which plays an important role to ensure the highest power quality and to enhance the stability of the whole grid. The current document implements a smart home supply strategy based on endless resources to reduce the electricity bill and confirm the energy balance. In this context, a proposed supervision algorithm operates in eight cases to reach optimal energy flow between renewable generators, home battery and grid in a smart home concept is presented. The system is evaluated using the framework “Business Process Model and Notation” (BPMN) Camunda basing on information stored in Firebase Cloud and results are presented in order to manifest the efficiency of this control strategy.

This study describes the modeling and simulation of photovoltaic (PV) for a 100W-18V solar panel prototype using Matlab/Simulink and Proteus. Using the manufacturer's data sheet as a reference, we compare and evaluate our findings with the nonlinear characteristics of current versus voltage (I-V) and power vs voltage (P-V). Finally, we apply all of the values from Matlab/Simulink to the Proteus simulator. The model used by Proteus is based on the single-diode, which depicts the appropriate circuit of a solar panel. Proteus software has been used to run simulations to evaluate the effectiveness of the solar under various environmental circumstances, standard test settings, and abrupt shifts in the solar irradiance as well as the temperature can be used. In this work, the shading and series/parallel resistances have all been considered. PV array has been simulated in Proteus to improve model simulation. This work might also serve as a guide for less experienced researchers studying PV panels on how to replicate a PV in various ways.

In this paper, we propose a dynamic hybrid active-passive reconfigurable intelligent surface (HRIS) to enhance multiple-input-single-output (MISO) communications, leveraging the property of dynamically placing active elements. Specifically, considering the impact of hardware impairments (HWIs), we investigate channel-aware configurations of the receive antennas at the base station (BS) and the active/passive elements at the HRIS to improve transmission reliability. To this end, we propose a penalty-based exact block coordinate descent (PEBCD) algorithm to address the mean-square-error (MSE) minimization problem for the dynamic HRIS-aided MISO system by jointly optimizing the BS receive antenna selection matrix, the reflection phase coefficients, the reflection amplitude matrix, and the mode selection matrix of the HRIS. Numerical simulations demonstrate the significant superiority of our proposed scheme over conventional benchmark schemes. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

In this correspondence, we analyze the performance of a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided communication system that involves a fluid antenna system (FAS)-enabled receiver. By applying the central limit theorem (CLT), we derive approximate expressions for the system outage probability when the RIS has a large number of elements. Also, we adopt the block-correlation channel model to simplify the outage probability expressions, reducing the computational complexity and shedding light on the impact of the number of ports. Numerical results validate the effectiveness of our analysis, especially in scenarios with a large number of RIS elements. © 2024, CC BY.

Within the scope of prostate cancer diagnostic imaging, distinguishing lesions is challenging due to their subtle appearance and the prostate gland’s complexity. This study employed the nnU-Net, a state-of-the-art medical image segmentation model, on a dataset of 301 patients from 2 openly available datasets to identify whether lesion sizes are affecting the model’s performance. By applying t-SNE dimensionality reduction algorithm among dice score and respective lesion sizes, we found that nnU-Net behaves differently for lesions smaller than 9mm compared to lesions larger than 15mm. These insights can inform specialized training approaches for future deep learning models in prostate lesion *** Relevance: The main contributions of this study is, to investigate whether lesion sizes affects nnU-Net’s deficiency leading to the development of more specialized models in respect to these factors.

One type of wheeled mobile robot widely used in public transportation and for carrying high payloads is the tractor-trailer wheeled robots (TTWRs). This study considers a differentially-driven tractor under pure rolling conditions, which is subject to nonholonomic constraints. Controlling a TTWR in both backward and forward motion is challenging due to inherent instability. To address this issue and achieve trajectory tracking control for these systems, this paper employs dynamic feedback linearization (DFL) to overcome the limitations of static feedback linearization (SFL). The system’s response will be examined under various trajectories and initial conditions for both forward and backward motion.
