Power system simulations that extend over a time period of minutes,hours,or even longer are called extendedterm *** power systems evolve into complex systems with increasing interdependencies and richer dynamic behaviors across a wide range of timescales,extendedterm simulation is needed for many power system analysis tasks(e.g.,resilience analysis,renewable energy integration,cascading failures),and there is an urgent need for efficient and robust extendedterm simulation *** conventional approaches are insufficient for dealing with the extendedterm simulation of multitimescale *** paper proposes an extendedterm simulation approach based on the semianalytical simulation(SAS)*** accuracy and computational efficiency are backed by SAS's high accuracy in eventdriven simulation,larger and adaptive time steps,and flexible switching between fulldynamic and quasisteadystate(QSS)*** used this proposed extendedterm simulation approach to evaluate bulk power system restoration plans,and it demonstrates satisfactory accuracy and efficiency in this complex simulation task.

Distributed Nash equilibrium for pursuit-evasion game with one evader and multiple pursuers

This paper investigates the pursuit-evasion problem involving one evader and multiple pursuers with limited sensing capability, where the evader tries to maximize the distance with the pursuers, while the pursuers have different objectives based on whether they can receive the information of the evader. The subgroup of pursuers who can observe the evader(called leaders) tries to be close to the evader, and the other subgroup of pursuers(called followers) tries to synchronize with their neighbors. When the subgraph formed by all leaders is complete, sufficient conditions are given to guarantee that the pursuers capture the evader and the pursuit-evasion game composed of the evader and leaders reaches Nash equilibrium. Furthermore, for the incomplete subgraph case, the distributed observers are proposed to estimate the relative positions between the evader and all leaders. It is shown that the distributed control strategy based on the observers converges exponentially to the Nash equilibrium solution, and makes the pursuers capture the evader. Finally, simulation examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategies.

Scalable Δ -AGC Logic for Enhanced Electromechanical Oscillation Damping in Modern Power systems With Utility-Scale Photovoltaic Generators

Power systems with utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) can significantly influence the operating points (OPs) of synchronous generators, particularly during periods of high solar PV generation. A sudden drop in solar PV output due to cloud cover or other transient conditions will alter the generation of synchronous generators shifting their OPs. These shifted OPs can become a challenge for stability as the system may operate closer to its stability limits. If a disturbance occurs while the system is operating at the shifted OP, with reduced stability margins, it will be more vulnerable to increased oscillations, loss of synchronism of its generator(s) and system instability. This study introduces a scalable $\Delta $ -automatic generation control ( $\Delta $ -AGC) logic method designed to address stability challenges arising from shifts in the OPs of synchronous generators during abrupt drops in PV generation. By temporarily adjusting the OPs of synchronous generators through modification of their participation factors (PFs) in the AGC logic dispatch, the proposed method enhances power system stability. The proposed $\Delta $ -AGC logic method focuses on the optimal determination of $\Delta PFs$ in power systems with large number of generators, using the concept of coherency and employing a hierarchical optimization strategy that includes both inter-coherent and intra-coherent group optimization. Additionally, a new electromechanical oscillation index (EMOI), integrating both time response analysis (TRA) and frequency response analysis (FRA), is utilized as an online situational awareness tool (SAT) for optimizing the system’s stability under various conditions. This online SAT has been implemented in a decentralized manner at the area level, limiting wide-area communication overheads and any cybersecurity concerns. Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable performance across various machine learning tasks. Yet the substantial memory footprint of LLMs significantly hinders their deployment. In this paper, we improve the accessibility of LLMs through BitMoD 1 , an algorithm-hardware co-design solution that enables efficient LLM acceleration at low weight precision. On the algorithm side, BitMoD introduces fine-grained data type adaptation that uses a different numerical data type to quantize a group of (e.g., 128) weights. Through the careful design of these new data types, BitMoD is able to quantize LLM weights to very low precision (e.g., 4 bits and 3 bits) while maintaining high accuracy. On the hardware side, BitMoD employs a bitserial processing element to easily support multiple numerical precisions and data types; our hardware design includes two key innovations: First, it employs a unified representation to process different weight data types, thus reducing the hardware cost. Second, it adopts a bit-serial dequantization unit to rescale the per-group partial sum with minimal hardware overhead. Our evaluation on six representative LLMs demonstrates that BitMoD significantly outperforms state-of-the-art LLM quantization and acceleration methods. For discriminative tasks, BitMoD can quantize LLM weights to 4 -bit with < 0.5% accuracy loss on average. For generative tasks, BitMoD is able to quantize LLM weights to 3-bit while achieving better perplexity than prior LLM quantization scheme. Combining the superior model performance with an efficient accelerator design, BitMoD achieves an average of $1.69 \times$ and $1.48 \times$ speedups compared to prior LLM accelerators ANT and OliVe, respectively. 1 Code is available at: https://***/yc2367/BitMoD-HPCA-25

Minimax problems have attracted much attention due to various applications in constrained optimization problems and zero-sum games. Identifying saddle points within these problems is crucial, and saddle flow dynamics offer a straightforward yet useful approach. This study focuses on a class of bilinearly coupled minimax problems with strongly convex-linear objective functions. We design an accelerated algorithm based on saddle flow dynamics, achieving a convergence rate beyond the stereotype limit (the strong convexity constant). The algorithm is derived from a sequential two-step transformation of a given objective function. First, a change of variables is applied to render the objective function better-conditioned, introducing strong concavity (from linearity) while preserving strong convexity. Second, proximal regularization, when staggered with the first step, further enhances the strong convexity of the objective function by shifting some of the obtained strong concavity. After these transformations, saddle flow dynamics based on the new objective function can be tuned for accelerated exponential convergence. Besides, such an approach can be extended to weakly convex-weakly concave functions and still guarantees exponential convergence to one stationary point. The theory is verified by a numerical test on an affine equality-constrained convex optimization problem. © 2024 IEEE.

Joint Optimization for Cooperative Service-Caching, Computation-Offloading, and Resource-Allocations Over EH/MEC 6G Ultra-Dense Mobile Networks

Service-caching, computation-offloading, and mobile edge-computing (MEC) have been widely recognized as three key 6G wireless technologies which can efficiently support implementing the ultra-dense networks (UDNs) with massive small-cell base stations (SBSs). But, these impose the new challenges for the UDNs to solely rely on grid power for energy supplying and to jointly optimize service-caching, computation-offloading, and resource-allocations. To overcome the above described difficulties, integrating energy-harvesting (EH) techniques with MEC-enabled 6G UDNs, we propose to develop the joint optimization schemes for cooperative service-caching, computation-offloading, and resource-allocations. In our considered UDNs, there exist a large number of EH-based stationary users (SUs) or mobile users (MUs), and a mixture of on-grid SBSs powered by electric grid and off-grid SBSs power-supplied by solar, radio frequency (RF) energy, etc. Specifically, first we formulate an energy minimization problem under a non-linear RF-energy EH model to minimize the sum of weighted energy consumption of users and off-grid SBSs. Second, for scenarios with SUs, we develop a two-timescale based joint cooperative service-caching, computation-offloading, and resource-allocations scheme using the hierarchical multi-agent deep reinforcement learning. We derive cooperative service-caching in each time frame, and then derive computation-offloading and resource-allocations in each time slot. Third, we extend our work to scenarios with MUs, where MUs can move with certain trajectories at low speeds. Finally, we validate and evaluate the performances of our proposed schemes through the extensive simulations. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, the need for efficient and reliable remote monitoring of under-water assets has never been more critical. A subsea cellular network solution ensures seamless connectivity and real-time data access to underwater assets such as marine robots and subsea IoT sensors, empowering organizations to optimize their operations and enhance asset management. With this need in mind, we present an underwater cellular network system that facilitates seamless communication with an arbitrary number of underwater assets and at the same time provides zero-overhead localization of the same. The presented system was tested out at sea in January 2024, and this paper describes in detail both the theoretical design of the system and the practical experience gained during these trials. © 2024 IEEE.

WSNs are applied in many disciplines where certain conditions require the ability to adapt to network sink mobility and changes in the dynamics of the area coverage. To meet these needs, it is necessary to develop integrated systems where the ''terrestrial' systems and the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)' collect data from sensors efficiently. Planning of UAV trajectories is another challenging issue if many WSN nodes are randomly deployed. This challenge has a big impact on the overall effectiveness of the system. This paper presents a novel approach for reducing the traveled distance of unscrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) to improve the data collection efficiency in WSNs with poor node density. Yet the method that has been developed is aimed at increasing 'the efficiency and efficacy of data collection... with the assistance of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)' which means this work reveals practical application solutions. © 2024 IEEE.
