Stability-Constrained Contingency Analysis for Modern Power systems

Modern power systems comprise diverse nonlinear components, and an increasingly large number of low inertia renewable power sources necessitate the modernization of conventional power system security measures. Contingency analysis (CA), a routine process for power system operators, ensures grid security under unforeseen circumstances by identifying potential issues and enabling proactive measures for uninterrupted power flow. Electromechanical oscillations (EMOs) in the power system that are a threat to stability must be regularly monitored and mitigated. An online hierarchical EMO index integrating time and frequency response analysis can be utilized for system stability assessment. The integration of an EMO index threshold into contingency analysis is presented in this paper to enhance system security. This new approach is referred to as the stability-constrained contingency analysis (SCCA). Typical results for a modified two-area, four-machine power system with large solar photovoltaic plants simulated on a real-time digital simulator (RTDS) are presented. These results demonstrate that SCCA flags potential issues that can arise from EMOs for certain contingencies, whereas traditional CA does not, as it solely considers bus voltage limits and line ratings.

In Named Data networking (NDN), data is identified by unique names instead of IP addresses, and routers use the names of the content to forward Interest packets towards the producers of the requested content. However, the current content search mechanism in NDN is complex and slow. This mechanism not only creates congestion but also hinders practical deployment due to its slowness and cumbersome nature. To address this issue, we propose a methodology, called BalanceDN, that distributes content through the network such that sought content can be found quickly. BalanceDN uses a distributed allocation of resolvers as those used by the domain name system but differs in how content is distributed. Our approach avoids flooding the network with pending interest requests and also eliminates the need for blind search when the location of content is unknown. We tested our approach on a simulation platform for NDN called ndnSIM. The results show that the proposed routing scheme utilizes far fewer network resources compared to the NDN network when retrieving content. The proposed scheme accomplishes this performance gain by leveraging a load-balanced hashing mechanism to distribute and locate the name of the content on the distributed nameserver lookup service nodes.

With the rapid growth of video data, video summarization is a promising approach to shorten a lengthy video into a compact version. Although supervised summarization approaches have achieved state-of-the-art performance, they require frame-level annotated labels. Such an annotation process is time-consuming and tedious. In this article, we propose a novel deep summarization framework named Deep Semantic and Attentive Network for Video Summarization (DSAVS) that can select the most semantically representative summary by minimizing the distance between video representation and text representation without any frame-level labels. Another challenge associated with video summarization tasks mainly originates from the difficulty of considering temporal information over a long time. Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) performs well for temporal dependencies modeling but does not work well with long video clips. Therefore, we introduce a self-attention mechanism into our summarization framework to capture the long-range temporal dependencies among the frames. Extensive experiments on two popular benchmark datasets, i.e., SumMe and TVSum, show that our proposed framework outperforms other state-of-the-art unsupervised approaches and even most supervised methods. © 2022 Association for Computing Machinery.

A compact reconfigurable CMOS bandpass filter (BPF) with high selectivity is proposed using transformer-type resonators in this article. The transformer-type resonator is constructed by a transformer loaded with parallel varactors for frequency tuning, and two varactors are then added across primary wind and secondary wind for coupling tuning. With the transformer-type structure, one resonator is formed inside another resonator, thus fully utilizing the chip area and resulting in a miniaturized structure. Magnetic and electrical couplings are formed within the transformer-type resonator and facilitate the bandwidth (BW) tuning. The quality factor (Q) of each resonator is improved by cross-coupled negative resistance structure. Meanwhile, two pairs of transformer-type resonators are placed side-by-side and naturally form a quadruplet structure;as a result, two transmission zeros (TZs) are introduced at each side of the passband thus significantly improving the selectivity and stopband rejection of the BPF. The proposed tunable on-chip BPF is manufactured by a commercial 55 nm bulk CMOS technology with a core area of 1.48 × 0.54 mm2. The filter center frequency (CF) can be tuned from 2.2 to 3.6 GHz, while the 3 dB fractional BW (FBW) can be tuned from 14% to 33%. The shape factor of the proposed filter is 1.4-1.9. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Quantum computing is a promising paradigm for efficiently solving large and high-complexity problems. However, ensuring privacy within this quantum computing necessitates innovative approaches. Existing research has introduced the concept of quantum differential privacy (QDP) to protect data privacy in quantum computing by leveraging quantum noise. Yet, this method faces limitations due to the fixed and uncontrollable nature of the inherent noise, which directly affects the privacy budget of QDP. Addressing this critical gap, our study proposes a novel approach that utilizes quantum error correction (QEC) techniques not only to mitigate quantum computing errors but also to adjust QDP protection levels precisely. By selectively applying QEC to single or multiple qubit gates, we introduce a method to manipulate the quantum noise error rate effectively. Moreover, we derive a new formula for calculating the overall error rate in a quantum circuit and the adjusted privacy budget after QEC operation. Through extensive numerical simulations, we validate the efficacy of utilizing QEC in tuning privacy protection levels within quantum computing. © 2024 IEEE.

Since radio-frequency signals are affected signifi-cantly by multipath fading, the localization accuracy they offer cannot meet the sixth generations (6G) demanding specifications. On the other hand, visible light positioning (VLP) has emerged as a low cost alternative that takes into account the highly deterministic channel characteristics of visible light communications to provide cm-level accuracy provided that the investigated spaces are adequately covered by LEDs. However, imperfect channel state information and modeling can lead to positioning errors. In this paper, localization accuracy is quantified in terms of channel estimation errors via low complexity lateration algorithm. The channel estimation errors can be caused by a variety of issues and the provided analysis is general so that it can be easily applied to a plethora of applications. Finally, Monte Carlo simulations validate the proposed method and offer valuable insights for the design and performance bounds of VLP systems. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper,we demonstrate efficient spontaneous quasi-phase matched(SQPM)second harmonic generation(SHG)in a microracetrack resonator on X-cut thin film lithium *** approach does not involve poling,but exploits the anisotropy of the crystals to allow the phase-matching condition to be fulfilled spontaneously as the TE-polarized light circulates in a specifically designed racetrack *** experiment,normalized on-chip conversion efficiencies of 1.01×10-4/W and 0.43×10-4/W are achieved by 37th-order and 111th-order SQPM,*** configurable SQPM will benefit the application of nonlinear frequency conversion and quantum source generation in chip-scale integrated photonics compatible with standard CMOS fabrication processes.

In the original publication, the author has found few errors in the figures 2, 4, 11 and 12 which significantly impact both the paper's quality and the reputation of the journal. These issues undermine the clarity of the methodology and the novelty of the research. 1. Each column represents a different case in the experiment, corresponding to the number of UAVs in both the obstacle-free and obstacle areas. Modeling and Clustering of Parabolic Granular Data

At present, there exist some problems in granular clustering methods, such as lack of nonlinear membership description and global optimization of granular data boundaries. To address these issues, in this study, revolving around the parabolic granular data, we propose an overall architecture for parabolic granular modeling and clustering. To begin with, novel coverage and specificity functions are established, and then a parabolic granular data structure is proposed. The fuzzy c-means (FCM) algorithm is used to obtain the numeric prototypes, and then particle swarm optimization (PSO) is introduced to construct the parabolic granular data from the global perspective under the guidance of principle of justifiable granularity (PJG). Combining the advantages of FCM and PSO, we propose the parabolic granular modeling and optimization (PGMO) method. Moreover, we put forward attribute weights and sample weights as well as a distance measure induced by the Gaussian kernel similarity, and then come up with the algorithm of weighted kernel fuzzy clustering for parabolic granularity (WKFC-PG). In addition, the assessment mechanism of parabolic granular clustering is discussed. In summary, we set up an overall architecture including parabolic granular modeling, clustering, and assessment. Finally, comparative experiments on artificial, UCI, and high-dimensional datasets validate that our overall architecture delivers a good improvement over previous strategies. The parameter analysis and time complexity are also given for WKFC-PG. In contrast with related granular clustering algorithms, it is observed that WKFC-PG performs better than other granular clustering algorithms and has superior stability in handling outliers, especially on high-dimensional datasets. © 2020 IEEE.
