We consider the problem of learning stable matchings with unknown preferences in a decentralized and uncoordinated manner, where "decentralized" means that players make decisions individually without the influence of a central platform, and "uncoordinated" means that players do not need to synchronize their decisions using pre-specified rules. First, we provide a game formulation for this problem with known preferences, where the set of pure Nash equilibria (NE) coincides with the set of stable matchings, and mixed NE can be rounded to a stable matching. Then, we show that for hierarchical markets, applying the exponential weight (EXP) learning algorithm to the stable matching game achieves logarithmic regret in a fully decentralized and uncoordinated fashion. Moreover, we show that EXP converges locally and exponentially fast to a stable matching in general markets. We also introduce another decentralized and uncoordinated learning algorithm that globally converges to a stable matching with arbitrarily high probability. Finally, we provide stronger feedback conditions under which it is possible to drive the market faster toward an approximate stable matching. Our proposed game-theoretic framework bridges the discrete problem of learning stable matchings with the problem of learning NE in continuous-action games. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. To fulfill the net zero emission goal, transportation sector, as the largest source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the United States, must be decarbonized. Electrification is regarded as one of the most promising approaches to decarbonizing transportation. Due to its annual growth, the aviation industry has also been targeted to be decarbonized. Fully electrification of aviation or all-electric aircraft (AEA) requires high power density and low system mass electric power systems (EPS), and to this end, moving towards MVDC is preferred. In our previous work, numerous Multilayer Multifunctional electrical Insulation (MMEI) systems have been designed. However, the dielectric strength and time-to-failure of the designed MMEI systems can only be determined by experimental tests. In this paper, the process of fabricating flat samples of down-selected MMEI designs by a compressionmolding process is discussed in detail.

Electrifying the aviation sector, a key source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, is critical for the United States to reach its net zero emissions target by 2050. The proposed all-electric aircraft (AEA) will need an electric power system (EPS) that offers high power density and low system mass, making medium voltage DC (MVDC) a better option than existing low voltage systems. The design and fabrication of power cables are pivotal for MVDC due to the thermal challenges the power cables face as a result of the low pressure (18.8 kPa) at a cruising altitude of wide-body passenger aircraft (12.2 km). The temperature distribution along the aircraft cable, largely determined by pressure, surface emissivity, and the shape of the surrounding surfaces, is expected to differ from that at atmospheric pressure because of the reduced heat transfer at lower pressure. In this regard, numerous designs of multilayer multifunctional electrical insulation (MMEI) systems have been presented in our earlier works and can satisfy these requirements. The optimal fabrication process of flat insulation samples of ARC-SC-T-MMEI design has been presented in our earlier work. This paper presents the optimized fabrication process of the cable configuration of ARCSC-T-MMEI design with aluminum hollow tube conductors by compression molding process.

Large-signal Stability Analysis of Grid-forming Inverters with Equivalent-circuit Models

This paper proposes an energy function-based direct method for large-signal stability assessment of grid-forming (GFM) inverters leveraging an equivalent-circuit representation of all involved control- and physical-layer dynamics. Three different primary controls, a standard inner-current outer-voltage cascaded-control architecture, output CL filter, and reference-current saturation limiting are featured in the modeling and analysis framework. A composite energy function for the GFM inverter is obtained by summing up individual energy contributions gleaned from the circuit representation. The approach can readily be generalized to different primary controls, output-filter arrangements, and current limiters since it is based on a circuit-theoretic foundation. Numerical simulations validate the efficacy of the approach in estimating the critical clearing time following a large-signal disturbance. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Network communication has been proven to be a very important tool and a key factor in the recent development and progress of the power grid operation. It is also considered as the foundation for the smart grid because information and communication are integrated into electricity distribution to achieve reliable and accurate knowledge of the power grid. In previous years, absorbing energy from substations and delivering it to customers was the only type of interaction we knew between utility companies and customers. Presently, the growing connections of small distributed generation units caused by the cost reduction of most of the technologies used in the generation and storage of electrical energy, along with the potential benefits of renewable energy have pushed many researchers to look into the improvement of information and communication technologies (ICT) in order to ensure a bidirectional flow of power and data. Moreover, the evolution of information and communication technologies and its applications to smart grid have converted the smart grid into a cyber-physical system where vulnerabilities and additional security challenges such as cyber-threats and cyber-attacks have emerged. Previously, we have demonstrated that using machine learning-based processing on data gathered from communication networks and the power grid was a promising solution for detecting cyber threats by implementing a co-simulation of cyber-security for cross-layer strategy. Since the majority of the challenges observed can only be solved in the network communication layer, we present in this work a physics-based state estimation model of the communication network system towards enhanced cyber-physical security of the smart grid. Information integration with the previously developed machine learning model is developed, providing an enhanced cyber-physical security application for the smart grid. With the commercial realization of the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks, the development of the sixth generation (6G) wireless networks has attracted considerable research attention. To meet the requirement of providing ubiquitous coverage, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) plays the key role in extending the line-of-sight area, and thus, has been proposed as a promising candidate technique in 6G wireless networks However, how to design an optimal UAV trajectory when it is moving and communicating with a base station or a mobile user in the network and how to guarantee the stability of the UAV's trajectory remain open problems. To address these issues, in this paper we design an optimal UAV trajectory, obtain the expression of the UAV's trajectory error, and propose a stability analysis mechanism to show that the UAV trajectory error is globally and asymptotically stable. First, we design the UAV optimal trajectory to maximize the communication performance while minimizing the energy consumption. Then, we derive a closed-form expression for the UAV trajectory in the transient state, which results in major trajectory errors, including the critical damping, underdamping, and overdamping. Third, we employ the control Lyapunov function to show that our developed UAV trajectory error correction scheme is globally and asymptotically stable under the feedback control law. Finally, we use numerical analyses to validate and evaluate our proposed UAV trajectory error control scheme.

The dynamic nature of microgrids introduces challenges in the context of frequency stability. This work presents a framework where the future state of microgrid frequency is predicted and corrective actions are optimized. Predictions are generated through Bayesian filters leveraging synchronized data acquired via PMUs. Taking a proactive approach makes it possible to optimize corrective actions considering dynamic system conditions. Testing is conducted via Matlab simulations. The performance of the solution presented in this work is compared to traditional load-shedding schemes and to predictive solutions found in literature. The results indicate that the proposed framework outperforms both. Some of the advantages of this framework include a reduction in amount of load dropped during compensation, the use of adaptive parameters which eliminates the need to simulate contingency conditions, and dynamic uncertainty quantification provided the particle filter. © 2024 IEEE.

The sixth generation (6G) mobile wireless networks are expected to provide a wide range of massive ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (mURLLC) for multimedia transmissions, which require extremely stringent delay and error-rate bounded quality of services (QoS). Massive multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) communication has been recognized as one of the promising techniques to support mURLLC thanks to its advantages in the beamforming gain and spatial multiplexing, etc. On the other hand, finite blocklength coding (FBC) based small packets communication technique has recently shown to be able to support the statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS provisioning. However, how to achieve the statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS provisioning through massive MIMO techniques has not been sufficiently studied. In this paper, we propose to apply the ∊-effective capacity into massive MIMO communications to achieve the statistical delay and error-rate bounded provisioning for mURLLC traffic transmissions. First, we develop the FBC based scheme over a Nakagami-m fading wireless channel. Then, using the developed FBC based system model, we derive a closed-form expression for ∊-effective capacity of massive MIMO communications, representing the maximum packet's arrival rate that a wireless channel can support under a given stringency of delay requirement and a constrained decoding error-rate. Finally, we use numerical analyses to validate and evaluate our proposed statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS provisioning scheme over massive MIMO communication networks.

Within the scope of prostate cancer diagnostic imaging, distinguishing lesions is challenging due to their subtle appearance and the prostate gland's complexity. This study employed the nnU-Net, a state-of-the-art medical image segmentation model, on a dataset of 301 patients from 2 openly available datasets to identify whether lesion sizes are affecting the model's performance. By applying t-SNE dimensionality reduction algorithm among dice score and respective lesion sizes, we found that nnU-Net behaves differently for lesions smaller than 9mm compared to lesions larger than 15mm. These insights can inform specialized training approaches for future deep learning models in prostate lesion *** Relevance: The main contributions of this study is, to investigate whether lesion sizes affects nnU-Net's deficiency leading to the development of more specialized models in respect to these factors. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a multi-functional reconfigurable intelligent surface (MF-RIS) assisted rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) scheme to improve the spectral efficiency in the downlink communications. With the ability of simultaneous signal reflection, transmission/refraction, and amplification, the proposed MF-RIS enables full-dimensional communications with enhanced signal power, thereby improving the signal reception of RSMA users in whole space. Under the constraints on the power budget, MF-RIS coefficients, and minimum rate requirement, a non-convex optimization problem is formulated to maximize the sum-rate by jointly designing the rate allocation, transmit beamforming, and MF-RIS configuration. Then, a low-complexity alternating optimization algorithm is proposed to solve this challenging problem. Simulation results show that the proposed MR-RIS-aided RSMA scheme can achieve up to 33.6% and 51.9% higher spectral efficiency than the simultaneous transmitting and reflecting RIS-aided RSMA scheme and the MF-RIS-aided non-orthogonal multiple access scheme, respectively. © 2023 IEEE.
