One main concern in PLC applications is related to multipath signal transmission and poses certain problems in the prediction of the signal characteristics. In this paper a simple model, suitable for the calculation of the signal voltage and current profiles in cases of multipath PLC channels is proposed. The model is based on the nodal admittance method and can be applied in multiconductor grids, which are decoupled using modal transformations. The model is based on the Transverse Electromagnetic (TEM) assumption. Several test cases are investigated, including different topologies of a power distribution circuit with the random addition of branches of varying lengths. Phase to phase and phase to ground signal injection cases are examined. The results are checked against the corresponding obtained by the well-known Electromagnetic Transients Program (ATP-EMTP), showing very good agreement.

This paper describes the design and implementation of a prototype 30kW, 200kHz pulsed power supply. A power density greater than 100W/inch3 is achieved with the converter operating at a high ambient temperature of 65 °C, by utilizing various technologies on topology, control, devices, passives, and thermal management, which can help reduce the converter size. The experimental results demonstrate that the converter meets the performance requirements while achieving the high power density.

To represent a given complex number as one-unit binary number, complex binary number system (CBNS) with (-1+j)-base has been proposed in computer arithmetic literature. In this paper, we have investigated the effects on magnitude and sign of the complex number represented in CBNS format after its binary representation has been shifted-right by one, two, three, and four bits. The analysis leads to the conclusion that multiple-bit shift-right operation in CBNS is quite different from the multiple-bit shift-right operation in traditional binary number system.

In this paper, we consider a wireless fusion sensor network where multiple types of sensors are incorporated in each sensor node. Each sensor node incorporates a RFID reader and a acoustic sensor. The RFID reader senses the proximity of target objects and acoustic sensors detect the objects for position estimations. The object positions estimated by both sensors are compensated by visual sensor to obtain more accurate object coordinates. In this paper, we perform network traffic analysis for the wireless fusion sensor network by using NS-2 simulations under various network scenarios. The analysis includes the feasibility of fusion network, hop-by-hop delay, and end-to-end delay.

This paper proposes and presents a novel algorithm for dynamic data association in wireless sensor networks. The sensor node incorporates RFID reader and acoustic sensor where the signals are fused for tracking and associating multiple objects. The RFID tag is used for object identification and acoustic sensor is used for estimating object movement. The threshold based association algorithm is proposed and its performance is analyzed. The association performance under single node coverage and multiple node coverage is evaluated as a function of sampling time and the dynamic behavior. The algorithm minimizes the failed association and provides association recovery.

The problem of optimal control of pedestrian evacuation from a corridor has been addressed. The corridor has been treated as a one dimensional link in the building network from which the pedestrians have to be evacuated. The governing flow equations are derived from the discretized continuity equation and a flow density relation for the pedestrian flow. Necessary conditions for the optimal control of these differential equations are developed using the calculus of variations method. The necessary conditions constitute a 2 point boundary value problem that has to be solved for the state, the co-state and the optimal control. Method of steepest descent is used to solve this problem. Numerical results are presented in the end for a test case.
