This paper presents a case study of an Interconnected Dynamical System (IDS) composed of Intelligent Reinforcement Learning (RL) agents, and characterized by a Hybrid P2P/Master-Slave architecture. In particular, we propose and extent our previously proposed non-dynamics-based RL work to make it an IDS. Furthermore, we study how the addition of motion constrains, knowledge sharing between agents, and distributed computing affect the overall performance of the system. In addition, we introduce a new dynamics based reward mechanism for reinforcement learning agents.

Nowadays, CAN bus, as a well-known, fieldbus, reaches its limits when dealing with sophisticated embedded systems that require reliability and high-speed data transfer. Switched fabric can be a fast and reliable hardware solution for existing CAN-bus limits. In fact, it allows multiple packets to be transferred simultaneously ensuring sufficient bandwidth. To resolve this problem when keeping the use of CAN protocol, we remove the CAN access technique module from an existing VHDL implementation of a CAN controller component and we replace it by a crossbar switched fabric, implemented in VHDL also. In this paper, we designed a Crossbar switched fabric CAN based on VHDL modules and we simulated it under ModelSim tools and we give of proof-of-concept of a CAN controller based on crossbar switched fabric.

In Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs), the exchange of location data (i.e. absolute position, heading, time) for traffic safety applications plays an important role. The trustworthiness of this information is crucial as false data affects applications heavily and might endanger human lives. Beside cryptographic solutions that ensure sender authenticity and message integrity, the data plausibility check is an important mechanism to ensure positional reliability. In this paper, we show that a particle filter is an appropriate instrument to perform plausibility checks in order to assess the trustworthiness of neighbor nodes. Our approach allows the aggregation of information from different data sources directly in one particle filter per neighbor. Thus, dependencies and relationships between individual sources can be fully accounted for and the framework is easily extensible and scales well. The concept is implemented as a Java-OSGi bundle for a field operational test framework and evaluated using both manually generated traces and recorded data from real vehicle trips. We show that the detection of several types of location-based attacks is possible under consideration of errors and system inherent deviations in sensor data.

The demand for the ubiquitous service is increasing due to the rapidly growing demand for increased data rates, mobile Internet and the diversity of wireless communication technologies. Also due to the challenges to interconnect heterogeneous network technologies and to offer ubiquitous services, telecommunications operators look after the best way to provide continuity of service during handover and how to give the mobile client the possibility to get the best connection anywhere and anytime. In this paper we propose an architecture and its implementation which guarantees the continuity of service during a communication in the context of heterogeneous access network technologies. The suggested solution named HaVe-2W3G (Handover Vertical WLAN WiMAX 3G) ensures a Vertical handover between heterogeneous access networks technologies: WLAN, WiMAX and 3G. A performance evaluation of such implementation is shown using a streaming application.* © 2011 IEEE.

The context-awareness management is a challenging task in a distributed collaborative environment. This management implies the monitoring of the context information of collaborative users while adapting the responses of their requests according to their context. In this work, we distribute the context adaptation task among several entities by adopting the mobile agent paradigm. This leads to a distributed solution for context management. The context adaptation is tackled by using a decision tree-based approach. A context-aware selection algorithm is given to select the appropriate terminal where the context-awareness tasks will be made. An e-health application is used through the paper to illustrate the suggested approach. © 2011 IEEE.

Composing different features in a software system may lead to conflicting situations. The presence of one feature may interfere with the correct functionality of another feature, resulting in an incorrect behavior of the system. In this work we present an approach to manage feature interactions. A formal model, using Finite State Machines (FSM) and Aspect-Oriented (AO) technology, is used to specify, detect and resolve features interactions. In fact aspects can resolve interactions by intercepting the events which causes troubleshoot. Also a Domain-Specific Language (DSL) was developed to handle Finite State Machines using a pattern matching technique. © 2011 Polish Info Processing Soc.

In this paper, we develop a novel context-aware approach for quality of experience (QoE) modeling, reasoning and inferencing in mobile and pervasive computing environments. The proposed model is based upon a state-space approach and Bayesian networks for QoE modeling and reasoning. We further extend this context model to incorporate influence diagrams for efficient QoE inferencing. Our approach accommodates user, device and quality of service (QoS) related context parameters to determine the overall QoE of the user. This helps in user-related media, network and device adaptation. We perform experimentation to validate the proposed approach and the results verify its modeling and inferencing capabilities. © 2011 ACM.
