In this work the context adaptation is considered as a set of rules on the following parameters: connectivity, user availability and user location. These rules anticipate the changes that may occur on the environment parameters in order to provide an adaptable service. A decision tree-based approach is used to help extracting generalized rules from a variety of contextual information. A collaborative mobile telediagnosis application illustrates the suggested approach and its implementation. ©2010 IEEE.

This paper describes the concept and architecture of geoXmart, a marketplace for proactive context-aware services, which enables users to easily find and subscribe to interesting services and allows providers to specify, export and maintain their services for versatile applications like electronic toll collect, context-aware advertising, or tourist information systems, even without implementing additional infrastructures. A geofence service comprises one or several geographic areas, so called geofences which are associated with actions to be performed, corresponding conditions and related metadata. Our approach defines a formalism of geofence services and their interfaces. Providers can benefit from simple service creation with almost no programming experience and even without the need to provide own infrastructure, because the services are executed mainly on the mobile device and are deployed on the marketplace. From a user's perspective, the concept provides ease of use e.g. finding services in their local surroundings and running serveral services in one single application, which leads to scale effects through combined processing of position and context. Therefore, we developed a concept for a marketplace providing geofence services that can be implemented by everyone, thus helping to increase the overall usage and integration of proactive location-based services in our daily lives. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper, we present two high capacity information hiding schemes in which large amount of information can be hidden in gray level images with high transparency using Tchebichef moments. In particular, the hidden information is a gray level image of the same size as the original image. A watermark image is also hidden in the original image for hidden data authentication and tampering localization purposes. The novelty of our work comes from combining both steganography and digital watermarking in one scheme. The first scheme is a secure fragile information hiding scheme with tampering localization capability. By fragile we mean that the watermark will be distorted under any kind of attack applied on the watermarked images including geometric attacks. The second scheme is a semifragile scheme. It is based on the first scheme with some modifications to make it withstand geometric attacks, but with some compromise in security. Both proposed schemes are moment-based, in which the hidden information and the watermark are embedded in the Tchebichef moments of the original image. Transparent watermarked images with PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) of 40 and above are obtained. Watermark and hidden images are extracted successfully at the receiver side with high accuracy.

In Wireless telecardiology applications ECG signal is compressed before transmission to support faster data delivery and reduce consumption of bandwidth. However, most of the ECG analysis and diagnosis algorithms are based on processing of the original ECG signal. Therefore, compressed ECG data needs to be decompressed first before the existing algorithms and tools can be applied to detect cardiovascular abnormalities. Decompression will cause delay on the doctor's mobile device and in wireless nodes that have the responsibilities to detect and prioritize abnormal data for faster processing. This is undesirable in body sensor networks (BSNs) as high processing involved in decompression will waste valuable energy in the resource and power constrained sensor nodes. In this paper, in order to diagnose cardiac abnormality such as Ventricular tachycardia, we applied a novel system to analyse and classify compressed ECG signal by using a PCA for feature extraction and k-mean for clustering of normal and abnormal ECG signals.

In this paper, we study the stability (convergence time) of an interconnected dynamical system with respect to its connectivity in the presence of delayed feedbacks sensory inputs/outputs data. In particular, we show that under some conditions, that we introduce and present in this paper, related to the interconnected links time-delays, the less connected a given dynamical system is, the longer it will take for the overall system to stabilize. We address the conditions for obtaining an estimate of the convergence time of the system based on the system interconnections weights and time delays. In particular, we study the conditions under which such property is conserved when homogenous and/or heterogeneous time delays are introduced to the links of the interconnected system considered. Analysis of the affect of arbitrary heterogeneous time delays on the dynamical system links, system stability, and convergence time is also presented.

The detection of wanted or suspicious individuals, encountered generally in airports or transportation stations, via the recognition of their faces for security purposes, is an important area for preventing terrorism and smuggling. This problem remains still in its infancy due to the many challenges involved. In particular, face recognition becomes more complicated and challenging when a given face to recognize is rotated off the plane, or is having changes in the facial expressions, or is being disguised, as it is often the case in the real world. In this paper we consider the problem of, given a time-varying face image template or only a sub-part of it, whether the template object image exists in a given image database of images stored in a given nominal configuration. We demonstrate here the main advantages of using sub-image patches and patches pre-processing instead of the whole face image are three-fold namely (a) the ability to deal with the situation of face disguise where only a small portion of the face can be recognized, (b) smaller face sub-image patches are less tuned to being significantly affected by affine transformations such as image translation/scaling/off-the-plane-rotation (c) the ability to perform image searching in an efficient way; since correlation methods have their short coming of requiring extremely large computation costs caused by exhaustive database searches and image similarity computations, when the image collections are large. In this work we demonstrate how by using sub-image patches leads itself to a distributed architecture for face recognition and how by combining a technique of distributed computing with a an image template pre-processing method the performance of image searching and matching is greatly improved by a several order of magnitude.

Given a time-varying face image object, or only a sub-part of the image, the question of whether the template object image exists in a given image database is an important problem our days, which still remains in its infancy, due to the many challenges it involves. With the advantage of distributed computing, such as computation sharing and data storage sharing, the limitations of image retrieval in a centralized image database can be eliminated. In this paper, we present an efficient method and architecture to determine whether a given face, of sub-part (s) of it, with time-varying features, disguises, and facial expressions is stored in a collection of known faces stored in nominal configurations. We demonstrate If such image exists, a match report is presented and the image position and rotation are derived as well. We show here how by combining a distributed computing and image sub-patch correlation technique in the image pattern recognition phase, the performance of the image searching is significantly improved.

The expected increase in number of cores on a single chip leads to the necessity of high-performance on chip interconnects (NoC). Furthermore, in order to fully utilize the abundance of cores, the chip is expected to support a number of applications running on the chip simultaneously. It is therefore necessary to partition the chip to support numerous applications without any risk of interference between them. The success of this depends on the flexibility of the underlying routing algorithm. This paper presents a flexible routing algorithm based on dimension ordered routing, which supports a large variety of irregular (2-D and 3-D) mesh topologies. The algorithm provides high efficiency at very low additional complexity, as is confirmed by experimental results.
