We consider autoreducibility of complete sets for the two common types of probabilistic polynomial-time reductions: RP reductions containing one-sided errors on positive input instances only, and BPP reductions containing two-sided errors. Specifically, we focus on the probabilistic counterparts of the deterministic many-one and truthtable autoreductions. We prove that non-trivial complete sets of NP are autoreducible for the RP many-one reduction. This extends the result by Glaßer et al. [9] that complete sets of NP are autoreducible for the deterministic many-one reduction. We also prove that complete sets of classes in the truth-table Polynomial Hierarchy, which is the polynomial hierarchy defined using the truth-table reduction instead of the general Turing reduction, are autoreducible with respect to the BPP truth-table reductions. This generalizes the result by Buhrman et al. [3] that truthtable- complete sets for NP are probabilistically truth-table autoreducible to multiple classes of higher complexity although for a weaker reduction. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2016.

We propose a promising method of geometric verification to improve the precision of Bag-of-Words (BoW) model in image retrieval. Most previous methods focus on the positions of interest points or the absolute differences of regions' scales and angles. In contrast, our method, named Region Similarity Arrangement (RSA), exploits the spatial arrangement of interest regions. For each image, RSA constructs a Region Property Space, regarding each region's (scale, angle) pair as a point in a polar coordinate system, and encodes the arrangement of these points into the BoW vector. From experimental results on Holidays, Oxford5K and Paris, RSA could get comparable results with sate-of-the-art methods. In addition, RSA increases no extra memory and negligible computational consumption compared with the baseline BoW approach.

A hierarchical image matting model for blood vessel segmentation in fundus images

In this paper, a hierarchical image matting model is proposed to extract blood vessels from fundus images. More specifically, a hierarchical strategy utilizing the continuity and extendibility of retinal blood vessels is integrated into the image matting model for blood vessel segmentation. Normally the matting models require the user specified trimap, which separates the input image into three regions manually: the foreground, background and unknown regions. However, since creating a user specified trimap is a tedious and time-consuming task, region features of blood vessels are used to generate the trimap automatically in this paper. The proposed model has low computational complexity and outperforms many other state-of-art supervised and unsupervised methods in terms of accuracy, which achieves a vessel segmentation accuracy of 96.0%, 95.7% and 95.1% in an average time of 10.72s, 15.74s and 50.71s on images from three publicly available fundus image datasets DRIVE, STARE, and CHASE_DB1, respectively. Despite numerous recent efforts, 3D object retrieval based on partial shape queries remains a challenging problem, far from being solved. The problem can be defined as: given a partial view of a shape as query, retrieve all partially similar 3D models from a repository. The objective of this track is to evaluate the performance of partial 3D object retrieval methods, for partial shape queries of various scan qualities and degrees of partiality. The retrieval problem is often found in cultural heritage applications, for which partial scans of objects query a dataset of geometrically distinct classes. © 2016 The Eurographics Association.

BACKGROUND:Epidemiological evidence on short-term association between ambient carbon monoxide (CO) and mortality is inconclusive and limited to single cities, regions, or countries. Generalisation of results from previous studies is hindered by potential publication bias and different modelling approaches. We therefore assessed the association between short-term exposure to ambient CO and daily mortality in a multicity, multicountry setting. METHODS:We collected daily data on air pollution, meteorology, and total mortality from 337 cities in 18 countries or regions, covering various periods from 1979 to 2016. All included cities had at least 2 years of both CO and mortality data. We estimated city-specific associations using confounder-adjusted generalised additive models with a quasi-Poisson distribution, and then pooled the estimates, accounting for their statistical uncertainty, using a random-effects multilevel meta-analytical model. We also assessed the overall shape of the exposure-response curve and evaluated the possibility of a threshold below which health is not affected. FINDINGS:Overall, a 1 mg/m increase in the average CO concentration of the previous day was associated with a 0·91% (95% CI 0·32-1·50) increase in daily total mortality. The pooled exposure-response curve showed a continuously elevated mortality risk with increasing CO concentrations, suggesting no threshold. The exposure-response curve was steeper at daily CO levels lower than 1 mg/m, indicating greater risk of mortality per increment in CO exposure, and persisted at daily concentrations as low as 0·6 mg/m or less. The association remained similar after adjustment for ozone but was attenuated after adjustment for particulate matter or sulphur dioxide, or even reduced to null after adjustment for nitrogen dioxide. INTERPRETATION:This international study is by far the largest epidemiological investigation on short-term CO-related mortality. We found significant associations between ambient

In recent years, methods from network science are gaining rapidly interest in economics and finance. A reason for this is that in a globalized world the interconnectedness among economic and financial entities are crucial to understand and networks provide a natural framework for representing and studying such systems. In this paper, we are surveying the use of networks and network-based methods for studying economy related questions. We start with a brief overview of graph theory and basic definitions. Then we discuss descriptive network measures and network complexity measures for quantifying structural properties of economic networks. This paper studies the problem of image-based leader-follower formation control for mobile robots, where the controller is designed independently of the leader's motion. An adaptive control scheme, which is suitable for both omnidirectional and perspective cameras, is proposed. The proposed approach avoids the need for accurate calibration of the extrinsic parameters of the omnidirectional camera as well as the intrinsic and extrinsic parameters of perspective camera. Additionally, the coefficients of the plane where the feature point moves relative to the camera frame can be uncertain. These uncertain constant parameters are estimated using an adaptive estimator. Uniform Semi-global Practical Asymptotic Stability (USPAS) of the system is shown using the Lyapunov approach. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Recently, an overwhelming majority of object detection methods have focused on how to reduce the number of region proposals while keeping high object recall without consideration of category information. It may lead to a lot of false positives due to the interferences between categories especially when the number of categories is very large. To eliminate such interferences, we propose a novel category aggregation approach based upon our observation that more frequently detected categories around an object have the higher probabilities to be present in an image. After further exploiting the co-occurrence relationship between categories, we can determine the most possible categories for an image in advance. Thus, many false positives can be greatly filtered out before subsequent classification process. Our extensive experiments on the well-known ILSVRC 2015 detection dataset show that our approach can achieve 49.0% of mAP in the validation dataset and 45.36% of mAP in the test dataset ranked 5th in the ILSVRC 2015 detection task. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

Controls, especially effficiency controls on dynamical processes, have become major challenges in many complex systems. We study an important dynamical process, random walk, due to its wide range of applications for modeling the transporting or searching process. For lack of control methods for random walks in various structures, a control technique is presented for a class of weighted treelike scale-free networks with a deep trap at a hub node. The weighted networks are obtained from original models by introducing a weight parameter. We compute analytically the mean first passage time （MFPT） as an indicator for quantitatively measurinM the et^ciency of the random walk process. The results show that the MFPT increases exponentially with the network size, and the exponent varies with the weight parameter. The MFPT, therefore, can be controlled by the weight parameter to behave superlinearly, linearly, or sublinearly with the system size. This work provides further useful insights into controllinM eftlciency in scale-free complex networks.
