In our paper we deal with the problem of low-level motion modelling and unusual event detection in urban surveillance videos. We model the direction of optical flow vectors at image pixels. We implemented and tested probability based approaches such as probability estimation, Mixture of Gaussians modelling, and spatial averaging (with Mean-shift segmentation). We propose a Markovian prior to get reliable spatio-temporal support. We tested the techniques on synthetic and real video sequences.

Separating the moving image parts from the static background is an important phase in video surveillance applications. The method based on Mixture of Gaussians (MOG) is an often used and robust approach to learn the background automatically and adaptively. Known MOG methods often suffer from the phenomena called the foreground aperture problem, when parts of large moving homogenous regions become part of the background instead of being selected as moving pixels. The purpose of the low-level imageprocessing that takes place in the retina is to compress the relevant visual information to a manageable size. The behavior of the external layers of the biological retina has been successfully modelled by a Cellular Neural Network. In the present paper a specialized emulated digital CNN-UM architecture will be introduced which can be very efficiently used in the retina model calculations. The high performance of the proposed architecture makes it possible to emulate one channel of the model in real-time.

The synthetic seismogram has seen many years of widespread and successful application in geophysical prospecting. It is used to simulate the normal incidence reflectivity of a heterogeneous medium and has been employed more recently to obtain the responses of subsurface structural and stratigraphic configurations. The propagation of seismic waves has to be modeled to create synthetic seismograms. The solution of the partial differential equations of motion describing the propagation of stress waves in an elastic medium requires enormous computation power. In this paper a solution of seismic wave propagation will be presented on CNN-UM architecture. Unfortunately the space-dependent equations and the low computational precision do not make it possible to utilize the huge computing power of the analog CNN-UM chips so the Falcon emulated digital CNN-UM architecture is used to implement our solution.

In this paper, the rationale for the development and the process of creating the Virtual ELA (Everyday Life Activities)-House are described. The Virtual ELA-House is an innovative therapy program designed for use with clients with language and speech disorders and/or with other cognitive neuropsychological disorders, which result from brain damage, e.g. aphasia, apraxia of speech, neglect, etc. The Virtual Reality setting is chosen as a modern and relevant therapy setting which imitates real everyday life scenarios. Computer supported cognitive and language therapy allows for repetitive application in the clinical and home setting which is necessary for learning to take place. The advantages of employing a software program based on a Virtual Environment, in particular the Virtual ELA -House, are discussed.
