In this paper, a scheduling problem is considered in the cellular network where there exist CBR (constant bit rate) users requiring exact minimum average throughput and delay guarantee, and EMG (elastic with minimum guarantee) users requiring minimum average throughput and delay guarantee and more throughput if possible. We first define a new utility function of average queue length. Based on the new queue utility function and the throughput utility function proposed before, we design a 2-dimensional weight function that will be used in our scheduling algorithm, and suggest a source control algorithm that can work with the scheduling algorithm. We show through simulations that the proposed algorithm guarantees the QoS (quality of service) requirements of CBR and EMG users.

Multicarrier transmission is an established technique for radio transmission systems and it can be considered as a promising approach for next generation wireless systems. In channel situations with high delay-spreads, OFDM requires large guard interval lengths which decrease the spectral efficiency significantly. Therefore, alternative multicarrier transmission systems are of great practical interest, which guarantee a reliable transmission without a guard interval. In multicarrier systems the subcarriers are weighted in a quite different way by the frequency selective channel, based on the inherent structure of the multicarrier transmission system. If the transmitter knows the channel, the subchannel's transmission parameters such as transmit power or modulation alphabets can be adapted. In this contribution, transmit power allocation schemes for BER performance improvements in a wavelet-based multicarrier transmission system with SVD equalization (singular value decomposition) are investigated under the constraints of a limited total transmit power and a given data rate. Thereby the differences between the optimal but highly complex solution and suboptimal but complexity-reduced solutions are analyzed. Numerical results are obtained by simulations assuming different time-variant channel characteristics, with delays larger than the multicarrier symbol duration.

The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) has emerged as next generation value added communication services including mobile multimedia broadcasting, multimedia conferencing, push to talk and presence etc on top of all IP networks. Offering multimedia streaming services across heterogeneous fixed and mobile networks have faced many challenges e.g. security, QoS, mobility and services management. In this article our objective is to identity vulnerability threats and attacks, and to study existing potential solutions for mobile multimedia broadcasting. The attacks possibilities are from multiple communication protocols suite i.e. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is used for session management, Diameter is used for authentication and authorization, Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) & Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) are used for media streaming on top of transport and IP infrastructure, therefore facing security challenges from three protocols domains. We will also present extended security by developing Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) System to secure IMS based Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting communication from Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks.

This paper proposes robust finite impulse response(FIR)filters for linear continuous-time state space models with bounded uncertainties.A set of all reachable current states under bounded uncertainties is determined from inputs and outputs on a recent finite time *** some condition is met,this set is shown to be represented in an ellipsoidal *** derivation procedure is much simplified by utilizing the result on the optimal tracking control with an indefinite cost *** order to minimize the maximum estimation error due to uncertainties,the center of the reachable ellipsoidal set is chosen as an estimated *** is shown through simulation that the proposed robust FIR filter achieves a more robust performance than existing robust infinite impulse response(IIR)filters.

We develop a numerical modeling framework for planar solid-oxide fuel cell (PSOFC) based vehicular auxiliary power unit (APU). The power-conditioning system (PCS) model comprises the comprehensive transient models of PSOFC, balance-of-plant and power-electronics subsystems (i.e., BOPS and PES, respectively), and application load (AL). It can be used for resolving the interactions among PSOFC, BOPS, PES, and AL, control design and system optimization, and fuel-cell durability studies. The PCS model has several key properties including the following: i) it can predict simultaneously predict spatial as well as temporal dynamics;ii) it has two levels of abstraction: comprehensive (for detailed dynamics) and reduced-order (for fast simulation);and iii) the fastsimulation model can be implemented completely in Simulink/Matlab environment, thereby significantly reducing the cost as well as time and provides the avenue for real-time simulation and integration with vehicular power-train models using the widely used ADVISOR. We compared the computational overhead and accuracy of the fast-simulation and comprehensive models and the show significant savings in time obtained using the former without compromising accuracy.

In this paper, we propose a discrete-time receding horizon Kalman filter with the estimated initial state on the horizon. The proposed filter employs the conventional Kalman filter with the receding horizon strategy. The initial state on the horizon is estimated from a maximum likelihood criterion and then initiates the Kalman filter. It turns out that the proposed filter is independent of any a priori information on the state over the horizon while the previous filters assume that the stochastic information on the initial state at the starting time is available. The proposed filter is shown to have the same form as an optimal FIR filter, which leads to having the optimality and the unbiasedness.

This paper proposes an improved investment priority decision method of the facilities considering the reliability of distribution networks. The proposed method decides an investment order of the facilities combining, by fuzzy rules, the investment priority decision by KEPCO and it by reliability evaluation indices. Where reliability evaluation indices are SAIFI(System Average Interruption Frequency Index) and SAIDI(System Average Interruption Duration Index). The reliability analysis method of distribution networks applied in this paper utilizes analytic method, where the used reliability data is historical data of KEPCO. Particularly, we assumed that the failure rate increased as the equipment ages. To verify the performance of the proposed method, we applied it with the planned projects to reinforce the weak facility electrical facilities in KEPCO in 2004. The evaluation result showed that, under a limited budget, the reliability of the KEPCO in the Busan region using the proposed method could be enhanced than using the conventional KEPCO's method. Therefore, the results verify the proposed method can be efficiently used in the actual priorities method for investing the electrical facilities. © 2005 IEEE.

Crucial for the performance of peer-to-peer networks based on geometric topologies is the measurement complexity and quality of the mapping function used to map a node in the network to a point in the geometric target space. In this paper we study how results from mathematics as well as data mining can be applied to this mapping problem. Using a metric space model for networks and results from mathematics a relation between the number of nodes to be mapped, the worst case error of the mapping and the dimension of the geometric target space is formulated. As a main result geometric cluster placement (GCP) is presented, an improved and resilient placement algorithm based on GNP. An evaluation of GCP presented is based on measurement data from the RIPE NCC test traffic measurement (TTM) project.

An agent-based framework for the impact analysis of faults and attacks in large-scale networks is discussed. The framework is used to discover attack points and to examine the behavior of critical network components during an attack or system fault. The two common types of attacks are server attacks such as TCP SYN, and ICMP flood, and routing attacks, such as distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. In network attacks, attackers overwhelm the target system with a continuous flood of traffic designed to consume all system resources. The framework analyze the impact of multiple failures on overall system behavior and identify critical resources and vulnerabilities.

This paper focuses on a systematic and cumulative statistical approach for identifying symptom parameters of incipient faults in distribution feeders. The proposed method aims to provide a tool for evaluating and identifying the best and highly correlated parameters to the faults so that they could be used for incipient fault detection and feeder condition monitoring. Laplace test statistic is adopted for trend analysis of the event log of candidate parameters and applied to actual feeder event data for on-line detection and monitoring purpose.
