Finite Element Method Applied to Fuse Protection Design

In a poloidal field （PF） converter module, fuse protection is of great importance to ensure the safety of the thyristors. The fuse is pre-selected in a traditional way and then verified by finite element analysis. A 3D physical model is built by ANSYS software to solve the thermal- electric coupled problem of transient process in case of external fault. The result shows that this method is feasible.

Discharge characteristics of the DUHOCAMIS with a high magnetic bottle-shaped field

For the purpose of producing high intensity, multiply charged metal ion beams, the dual hollow cathode ion source for metal ions （DUHOCAMIS） was derived from the hot cathode Penning ion source combined with the hollow cathode sputtering experiments in 2007. To investigate the behavior of this discharge geometry in a stronger magnetic bottle-shaped field, a new test bench for DUHOCAMIS with a high magnetic bottle-shaped field up to 0.6 T has been set up at the Peking University. The experiments with magnetic fields from 0.13 T to 0.52 T have indicated that the discharge behavior is very sensitive to the magnetic flux densities. The slope of discharge curves in a very wide range can be controlled by changing the magnetic field as well as regulated by adjusting the cathode heating power; the production of metallic ions would be much greater than gas ions with the increased magnetic flux density; and the magnetic field has a much higher influence on the DHCD mode than on the PIG mode.

Design of a DC Busbar for the ITER PF Converter

The DC busbar is an important component for the ITER PF converter module to connect the converter and the reactor. This paper analyzes different cross-sections and different thermodynamic properties under natural-cooling and water-cooling conditions, and simulation is carried out by the software of the finite element method （FEM）. The result of the analysis shows that the water-cooling method is the better choice for the DC busbar.

FePt nanoparticles (NPs)/reduced graphene oxide (rG-O) composites have been synthesized using a one-pot strategy without surfactants. Monodisperse FePt NPs were homogenously loaded onto rG-O sheets. By controlling the concentration of dispersed graphene oxide (GO), uniform FePt flower-like nanoclusters can be obtained. FePt/rG-O composites exhibited exceptionally high electrocatalytic performance in the activity and durability for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), much superior to that of the commercial Pt/C (60%). The straightforward synthesis of FePt/rG-O composites provides a low-cost and high performance catalyst for the ORR, which is also a promising strategy for the synthesis of various Pt-based bimetallic alloy/rG-O composites for potential uses in catalysis and energy fields.

Geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase （GGPPS） plays a key role in the biosynthesis of antioxidative carotenoid from the extremely radioresistant bacterium Deinococcus radiodurans. In this work, the recombinantGGPPS expressed in Escherichia coli by cloning and transforming the gene dr1395 of D. radiodurans was isolated rapidly by an immobilized metal affinity supermacroporous cryogel, i.e., Cu2＋-iminodiacetic acid （IDA）-cryogel. The properties of the Cu2＋-IDA-cryogel were characterized using capillary-based mathematical model and experi- mental measurements. The obtained protein samples were analyzed by the sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis （SDS-PAGE）. The porosity of the present Cu2＋-IDA-cryogel is 90.4% and the water permeability is 5.04x10-12 m2. From the capillary-based model, this cryogel presents a slightly wide normal pore （capillary） size distribution with the mean diameter of 55.2 μm, the standard deviation of 28.0 μm and the half of skeleton wall thickness of 2.8 μm. The pore size distribute from about 10 to 141 μm and the effective tortuosity of these capillary pores increases from 2.60 to 9.05. The isolation of the GGPPS from cell homogenate can be achieved at the flow velocity of 3.40x 10-4μm. s-1 by the Cu2＋-IDA-cryogel bed. High-purity GGPPS （about 91.4%） is obtained according to the SDS-PAGE analysis of the elution samples, indicating that the present method is a promising, simple and ef- fective atmroach to isolate GGPPS from cell homoenate of engineering, strains.
