FPGA implementation of 500-MHz high-count-rate high-time-resolution real-time digital neutron-gamma discrimination for fast liquid detectors

Fast neutron flux measurements with high count rates and high time resolution have important applications in equipment such as *** this study,real-time neutron and gamma discrimination was implemented on a self-developed 500-Msps,12-bit digitizer,and the neutron and gamma spectra were calculated directly on an FPGA.A fast neutron flux measurement system with BC-501A and EJ-309 liquid scintillator detectors was developed and a fast neutron measurement experiment was successfully performed on the HL-2 M tokamak at the Southwestern institute of Physics,*** experimental results demonstrated that the system obtained the neutron and gamma spectra with a time accuracy of 1 *** count rates of up to 1 Mcps,the figure of merit was greater than 1.05 for energies between 50 keV and 2.8 MeV.

To improve our understanding of structural stability, two vibrating tandem square cylinders is numerically investigated in the present study. In reattachment regime (L* = 2), mass ratios (m* = 3), Reynolds numbers (Re = 100) are considered. Different branches are identified. For the first cylinder, the maximum A* is about 0.10, which is one-third of a single cylinder. For the second cylinder, the maximum A* is about 0.42, which is 1.45 times of a single cylinder. Wake mode is observed, and the existence of the second cylinder restrains the vortex shedding from the first cylinder. © 2024 institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Voidage(porosity or void fraction)in packed particles(or pebbles)is of fundamental importance in calculating the pressure drop,obtaining the drag,predicting the bed permeability,estimating the neutron streaming,*** the case when particles are deformed,a method of voidage correction during the packing state is proposed using a Discrete Element Method(DEM)simulation of 3D pebble flow inside a bed of cycloidal base.A function to evaluate the remaining volume of a pebble intercepted by horizontal and vertical planes is proposed for voidage *** that,the process of solving voidage distribution is provided in *** this method,the voidage inside the cycloidal-base pebble bed is obtained to refer to reported similar data for *** method can be potentially used for dynamical voidage calculation in CFD-DEM simulation which can get suitable voidage distribution after the correction.

Fluorescence X-rays have the advantages of good monochromaticity, high flux and stable dose rate. Carried out simulation and experimental studies of fluorescence X-rays in the (4.5 ~ 25.3) KeV energy range. The energy spectra produced by different radiators were simulated using Monte Carlo simulation software to obtain the theoretical spectra. The Kp and L fluorescence X-rays were also filtered in the simulation by choosing different materials of secondary filter materials for each radiator. Measurement experiments were carried out using a HPGe detector to obtain experimental spectra. The simulation results match the experimental results, verifying the correctness of the experimental measurements. The fluorescence yield and Ka fluorescence purity of the radiator were calculated, in which the fluorescence yield of Zn reached percent 95.2 and the purity of Ka fluorescence of Cd reached percent 82.8. The factors affecting the fluorescence yield experiment are the secondary filter corresponding to the radiator, which can be subsequently optimized in the selection of secondary filter. © The Institution of engineering & technology 2024.

The Fission Surface Power System is a feasible solution for future lunar surface exploration energy supply, with the solid-state reactor being considered a primary candidate. This paper presents a modeling and analysis of a solid-state reactor based on publicly available information. Using the reactor Monte Carlo program RMC and the commercial finite element analysis software ANSYS, the reactor is modeled and analyzed. The power distribution of the active zone and reactivity feedback coefficients of the entire core are obtained. The result indicates a negative reactivity feedback coefficient, confirming this reactor design's inherent safety. Furthermore, a two-dimensional reactor model is constructed to obtain the temperature distribution during full-power operation, and non-passive residual heat removal analysis and radiative heat loss failure analysis are performed. At the failure condition of all heat pipes, the maximum core temperature is 742 K, which is below the reactor safety temperature limit, confirming the residual heat removal capability of the solid-state reactor in the loss of heat sink. Additionally, the self-developed transient reactor system analysis program is used for thermal safety analysis. The thermal parameters and heat transfer limits of high-temperature alkali metal heat pipes within the reactor are obtained, with the ratio of heat transfer limit to the heat load of 2.05 demonstrating sufficient safety margins of the heat pipe operation in the reactor. The results manifest that the core is satisfied with the existing criteria for anticipated operating occurrences of solid-state reactors, verifying the excellent safety performance of this reactor design. The existing drive method of the main equipment transporter of the nuclear island makes the transporter have frequent jamming problems when the transporter going straight and turning, which affects the safety during the transporter of the main equipment. Therefore, it is necessary to design an on-board multi-motor synchronous system with differential synchronization function. Although the traditional virtual line-shafting structure has the ability of same-speed synchronization and differential synchronization, there is a large synchronization error. For this reason, this paper proposes a multi-motor synchronous control method based on the improved virtual line-shafting structure, which can effectively solve the inherent synchronous delay problem of the virtual line-shafting. First, analyze and research the combination method of virtual line-shafting structure and deviation coupling structure, and designs the electronic differential to be able to adapt to the requirements of same-speed and differential synchronization. Then the influence of virtual line-shafting parameters on the system is analyzed using the root locus method, and a simplified parameter model of the virtual line-shafting is established, on the basis of which an improved virtual line-shafting control method with low synchronous delay is proposed.
