The NMF (Network Management Forum) SMART Ordering Team proposes a service ordering model and identifies different interfaces. While the Ordering Team focuses on the service ordering interfaces between service providers, this paper examines the service ordering interfaces between customer and service provider. In particular, it highlights the operations and information objects used in the interfaces.

During the past few years, the study of network management has focused on a single node, e.g., a router or a hub. As network connectivity and heterogeneity grows, there is a need to extend the scope of management from a few nodes to an enterprise environment where there is a number of networks interconnected by switching devices. In this paper, we attempt to provide a configuration, fault, and performance monitoring solution in an enterprise LAN network environment. First, we identify the managed objects which are subject to monitoring. Among the important managed objects are interconnection domains, switching devices, and LAN networks such as Ethernet, token ring and FDDI networks. Then we identify the management functions which can be applied during the monitoring process. Using scenarios, we demonstrate how these management functions can be applied.

Because of the heterogeneity and the distributed nature of integrated network management, a good approach to understand the managed objects by syntax/semantics on the remote managed systems can significantly improve the performance of management applications. In this paper, we describe an X.500 prototype to provide the directory services to support integrated network management. Four directory services are described: partial name resolution, abstract syntax resolution, navigation of Management Information Base, and access control to managed objects.
