The deep integration of IoT into our daily lives has made the security of IoT everyone's priority, from IoT device manufacturers to IoT developers and final customers. Even though every year millions of IoT devices are introduced to the market, security, and privacy have not been competently addressed. Based on the survey of IoT challenges, IoT applications face many threats in Network communication, storage access, device identification and Authentication, program execution, firmware update, Secure Boot, etc. IoT devices are vulnerable to attacks, which breach the security and privacy of users and systems. Commonly most IoT applications are deployed using common operating systems that do not address IoT specialized security requirements. This paper introduces xPython, a novel secure-by-design operating system for IoT subsystems (devices and gateways). xPython provides transparent security solutions for common threats in addition to a security library for custom security implementation. xPython minimizes the time required to develop security features. xPython is secure by design to ensure security features are included at all stages of product creation and deployment. This paper proposes a new architecture for IoT operating systems, and it ends with a complete prototype implementation. The proposed architecture integrates security services inside operating system layers. It affects device initiation, communication protocols, application deployment, and application execution, ensuring software is executed securely, including non-secure applications (secure boot) and storage access. The proposed security solutions are inspired by previous work in Smart Cards. Smart Cards are considered a trusted environment for identification, authentication, and confidentiality. Physician scheduling is a critical task that impacts the quality of patient care, staff satisfaction, and operational efficiency in healthcare institutions. The traditional approach to physician scheduling is manual and time-consuming, which can result in errors, staff burnout, and suboptimal schedules. To address these challenges, researchers have turned to optimization techniques like CSP, which has shown promise in solving physician scheduling problems. This paper reviews the existing literature on CSP for physician scheduling and highlights the benefits and limitations of this approach. CSP's benefits include generating schedules quickly and efficiently, incorporating complex constraints and preferences, and handling changes and disruptions in real time. However, CSP also has some limitations, such as the need for a formalized model and the fact that it may not always generate the most intuitive schedules. Overall, the findings suggest that CSP is a promising approach to physician scheduling that can produce high-quality schedules while minimizing staff burnout and improving operational efficiency. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to its high accuracy and ease of calculation,synchrophasor-based linear state estimation(LSE)has attracted a lot of attention in the last decade and has formed the cornerstone of many wide area monitor system(WAMS)***,an increasing number of data quality concerns have been reported,among which bad data can significantly undermine the performance of LSE and many other WAMS applications it *** data filtering can be difficult in practice due to a variety of issues such as limited processing time,non-uniform and changing patterns,and *** pre-process phasor measurement unit(PMU)measurements for LSE,we propose an improved denoising autoencoder(DA)-aided bad data filtering strategy in this *** data is first identified by the classifier module of the proposed DA and then recovered by the autoencoder *** characteristics distinguish the proposed methodology:1)The approach is lightweight and can be implemented at individual PMU level to achieve maximum parallelism and high efficiency,making it suited for real-time processing;2)the system not only identifies bad data but also recovers it,especially for critical *** use numerical experiments employing both simulated and real-world phasor data to validate and illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Nowadays cyber threats become increasingly sophisticated and prevalent. Intrusion Detection systems (IDS) have been widely used, to achieve the necessary security requirements in computer networks because of their ability to detect network attacks. Recently, utilizing machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) models in IDS have demonstrated substantial improvements in identifying unknown attacks. This study conducts a comprehensive analysis of DL approaches for intrusion detection focusing on the recent research in the last five years, and explores the most used datasets in the field to highlight their characteristics and suitability for evaluating IDS performance. Finally, we present insights into the limitations, strengths, and future prospects of DL based IDS.

This paper investigates the problem of zero-day malicious software (Malware) detection through unsupervised deep learning. We built a sequence-to-sequence auto-encoder model for learning the behavior of normal software by monitoring the sequence of operating system kernel API calls. After training is completed, the model is used to identify malicious software activities through assigning an anomaly score for each testing sample. The model achieves 90% AUC score compared to 86% AUC score for the previous work done over the same dataset used for performance assessment.

This paper presents a novel aerial robotics application of instance segmentation-based floating litter collection with a multi-rotor aerial vehicle (MRAV). In the scope of the paper, we present a review of the available datasets for litter detection and segmentation. The reviewed datasets are used to train a Mask-RCNN neural network for instance segmentation. The neural network is off-board deployed on an edge computing device and used for litter position estimation. Based on the estimated litter position, we plan a path based on a quadratic Bezier curve for the litter pickup. We compare different trajectory generation methods for the object pickup. The system is verified in a laboratory environment. Eventually, we present practical considerations and improvements necessary to enable autonomous litter collection with MRAV.

The Thyristor-controlled LC-coupling hybrid active power filter (TCLC-HAPF) exhibits the characteristics of low DC-link voltage and a wide reactive power compensation range, making it a promising compensator for medium-voltage-level power systems power quality conditioning. Conventional finite-set model predictive control (FS-MPC) typically utilizes a single switching vector in each control period, resulting in a variable switching frequency and noticeable output ripple. This article addresses these concerns by presenting an enhanced MPC that incorporates a fixed switching frequency, thereby resolving these challenges. Preliminary simulation studies are provided to verify the feasibility and performance of the proposed method.

As a component of asset management strategies, maintenance management is essential for improving the reliability of the Electrical Distribution Networks (EDNs). To increase system efficiency, electricity companies invest a significant effort to assign their financial sources to important system components. In this paper, a mixed-integer linear programming approach to maintenance budgeting considering restoration time uncertainty is suggested. The suggested technique finds the optimal budget for doing maintenance tasks in distribution network feeders. The objective is to reduce overall cost, which includes total interruption cost of customer $\left(\boldsymbol{T} \boldsymbol{C}_{\boldsymbol{C I C}}\right)$, total energy not supplied ${cost}\left(T C_{E N S}\right)$, total cost of materials and labor for repair $\left(T C_{R E P}\right)$, and total cost of maintenance $\left(T C_{P M}\right)$. Three cases are also taken into account to observe the effectiveness of the suggested maintenance method: Case I assumes that no maintenance actions are performed in the system, in Case II, maintenance budget for each distribution feeder is taken into consideration equally, in Case III, according to constraints, the suggested formulation allocates the optimal maintenance budget. The Roy Billinton test system’s bus number two (RBTS2) is subjected to the proposed reliability improvement approaches, and the results are discussed.
