Badminton is a very popular subject in Physical Education (PE). Many students enroll badminton courses in every semester which pose a tremendous teaching load to the instructors. The one-on-one guiding/feedback time provided by the instructor to each student is also greatly reduced. To overcome this challenge, some studies have tried to adopt pose recognition technique in teaching badminton. However, the lack of mobility and recognition accuracy problems hinder its applicability. To address this issue, a new pose recognition technique, OpenPose, was employed to develop a real-time pose recognition badminton teaching APP in this study. The APP was then installed on a mobile device to enhance badminton smash skill learning performance. The scores distribution of the experimental group shows majority of students achieved satisfactory performance, this implies the badminton teaching APP is helpful to all students no matter what their initial skill levels are. © 2021 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Bacteria are microscopic organisms that can be found in many environments. They are abundant and have many roles in our life. Studying bacteria is essential so that we can identify the bacteria that are needed for many industrial applications. However, the main problem is that majority of the bacteria are unculturable, hampering the exploration of bacteria from different environments. Metagenomics approach which employs Next Generation Sequencing technology could help study bacteria by utilizing 16S rRNA marker gene. This study aims to demonstrate data mining and bioinformatics approaches to analyze 16S rRNA sequencing data. The raw sequencing data of 16S rRNA was collected from biological database. Then, the data were trimmed, denoised, and clustered to generate Amplicon Sequence Variants (ASVs). Diversity (alpha and beta) and taxonomic analyses were then conducted to elucidate the bacterial diversity and taxonomic profile of ASVs. The results of this work showed that Shannon and PD indices in China's hot spring were higher than Singapore and the USA. Furthermore, a significant difference was observed in the PD index. The unweighted UniFrac distance also showed there was a significant difference of the bacterial communities between the three locations. In addition, the taxonomic investigation unveiled prevalent bacterial groups in the ecosystem, namely Proteobacteria, Chloroflexi, Cyanobacteria, and Crenarchaeota. The research outcomes have the potential to serve as a foundational resource for subsequent bacterial metagenomic research, particularly the hot spring environment.

The infection of Plasmodium vivax is relatively less virulent than the deathliest Plasmodium falciparum. However, it still can lead to a fatal case and often induces recurring malaria due to dormant parasites in the liver. Thus, the research to study the drug to treat Plasmodium vivax is essential, where the enzyme dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) has recently become a new drug target. However, the drug-enzyme interaction study has only recently been conducted in Plasmodium falciparum (pfDHODH) due to the lack of the 3D structure of enzyme DHODH from Plasmodium vivax that is crucial for the study. Therefore, this study aimed to perform the modelling study of Plasmodium vivax DHODH (PvDHODH) to create a 3D structure as a basis for drug-protein interaction study in upcoming studies. Sequence pvDHODH (Accession: SCO68359.1) was used in homology modelling using Modeller 10.2 with the crystal structure of DHODH from DHODH (Accession: 7KZY) as a template. Overall, the model generated from the homology modelling was considered a good model, and the 3D structure was close to the native state according to several parameters, including DOPE score, GA341 score, QMEAN4 value, 3D-1D score, ERRAT2 score, and ProSA score. Ramachandran plot also revealed that almost all amino acids were distributed in the desirable and allowed area (99.1%), and only 0.9% were in generously allowed regions. Superimposition of the model with the template also indicated that the model has an almost similar structure and amino acids positioning, including in the binding pocket and active site. Therefore, the model can be used for downstream analysis in drug-protein interaction studies. Nevertheless, some improvements can still be performed to upgrade the quality of the model by deleting unaligned residues on the C-terminal and realigning the residues at the doubting site.

Virtual Reality (VR) has received attention since the trend of the Metaverse came after the pandemic era. Several studies look into how Virtual Reality can be used in higher education. because all the research comes from the education field. However, previous research is too narrow in using technology, but not the area, impact, and challenges of Virtual Reality itself. Therefore, the systematic literature review (SLR) from 2016 to 2022 is discussed in this work to research how discipline, impact, and challenges of Virtual Reality in Higher Education. From 702 papers retrieved, and 214 candidates, to determine the applicability of the study question, 62 papers were chosen. The result shows that most discipline areas are still in computer science, followed by education and public health. Most reports said Virtual Reality is still highly impacted in solving the problem, especially in public health and education. However, there are still some pitfalls: the challenge of using The Head Mounted Device makes Virtual Reality-Induced symptoms and effects (VRISEs) such as Cyber sickness, simulator sickness, Motion sickness, dizziness, and physical discomfort. The implication of the SLR will be considered for academic purposes in preparing for the Metaverse era, especially in higher education. © 2022 IEEE.

The number of Android malicious applications keeps growing as time passes, even paving their way to official app markets. In recent years, a promising malware detection approach makes use of the compiled app source codes (dex), through convolutional neural networks (CNN) as an image classification task. Unfortunately, current proposals often rely on unrealistic datasets, focusing their detection on the mal-ware families, while neglecting the detection of malware apps in the first place. In this paper, we propose a reliable and hierarchical Android malware detection through an image-based CNN scheme, implemented twofold. First, Android malware classification is performed in a hierarchically-structured local manner, initially identifying malware apps, then, their related family. Second, to ensure reliability and improve classification accuracy, only highly confident classified apps are reported, in a classification with reject option rationale. Experiments performed in a new dataset with over 26 thousand Android apps, divided into 29 malware families, compounding over 13 GB of app dex images, have shown that current image-based CNN for malware detection is unable to provide high detection accuracies. In contrast, our proposed model is able to reliably detect malware apps, improving the true-negative rates by up to 5.5%, and the average true-positive rate of the malware families of accepted apps by up to 12.7%, while rejecting only 10% of Android apps.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a type of diabetes mellitus that attacks the retina of the eye. DR will cause patients to experience blindness slowly. Generally, DR can be detected by using a special instrument called an ophthalmoscope to view the inside of the eyeball. However, in conditions where there is a very small difference between the normal image and the DR image, computer-based assistance is needed for maximizing image reading value. In this research, a method of image quality improvement will be carried out which will then be integrated with a classification algorithm based on deep learning. The results of image improvement using Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) shows that the average accuracy of the method on several models is very competitive, 91% for the VGG16 model, 95% for InceptionV3, and 97% for EfficientNet compared to the results original image which only has an accuracy of 87% for VGG16 model, 90% for InceptionV3 model, and 95% for EfficientNet. However, in ResNet34 better accuracy is obtained in the original image with an accuracy of 95% while in the CLAHE image the accuracy value is only 84%. The results of this comprehensive evaluation and recommendation of famous backbone networks can be useful in the computer-aided diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy.

This article proposes StrawberryTalk, an Internet of Things (IoT) platform for image-based strawberry disease detection. StrawberryTalk reuses the wall-mounted monitoring cameras without extra hardware cost. The contributions of StrawberryTalk are the utilization of IoT for automatic photo shoot and the wind detection mechanism to eliminate the obscure photos due to the wind effects. Also, the data preprocessing and the infection detection models are manipulated as IoT devices to simplify the implementation of the multicascade artificial intelligence (AI) models. We derive the relationship between the camera zoom factor and the distance between the camera and the strawberries for optimal disease detection. Accuracy of detection may be affected by obscure photos. In terms of eliminating obscure photos due to wind effect, we analytically derive the relationship between the wind alert delay and the number of obscure photos that must be retaken. For the greenhouses in the Bao Mountain, we only need to retake one photo. Based on the experiments, the mean average precision (mAP) of StrawberryTalk (to detect exact spots in a leaf) can be up to 92.37%, which is better than the previous approaches. To detect if a pot has infected leaves, the accuracy of StrawberryTalk can be up to 97.92% at the zoom factor 30×. In commercial operation, it is important to detect all infected strawberry pots. StrawberryTalk is able to detect all infected pots (i.e., recall is 100%) with a camera of zoom factor of 12× . The accuracy is 96.88%. © 2014 IEEE.

Using $$p,q,r-$$ fractional fuzzy sets ( $$p,q,r-$$ FFS) to demonstrate the stability of cryptocurrencies is considered due to the complex and volatile nature of cryptocurrency markets, where traditional models may fall short in capturing nuances and uncertainties. $$p,q,r-$$ FFS provides a flexible framework for modeling cryptocurrency stability by accommodating imprecise data, multidimensional analysis of various market factors, and adaptability to the unique characteristics of the cryptocurrency space, potentially offering a more comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing stability. Existing studies have explored Picture Fuzzy Sets and Spherical Fuzzy Sets, built on membership, neutrality, and non-membership grades. However, these sets can’t reach the maximum value (equal to $$1$$ ) due to grade constraints. For example, when considering $$\wp =(h,\langle \text{0.9,0.8,1.0}\rangle \left|h\in H\right.)$$ , these sets fall short. This is obvious when a decision-maker possesses complete confidence in an alternative, they have the option to assign a value of 1 as the assessment score for that alternative. This signifies that they harbor no doubts or uncertainties regarding the chosen option. To address this, $$p,q,r-$$ Fractional Fuzzy Sets ( $$p,q,r-$$ FFSs) are introduced, using new parameters $$p$$ , $$q$$ , and $$r$$ . These parameters abide by $$p$$ , $$q\ge 1$$ and $$r$$ as the least common multiple of $$p$$ and $$q$$ . We establish operational laws for $$p,q,r-$$ FFSs. Based on these operational laws, we proposed a series of aggregation operators (AOs) to aggregate the information in context of $$p,q,r-$$ fractional fuzzy numbers. Furthermore, we constructed a novel multi-criteria group decision-making (MCGDM) method to deal with real-world decision-making problems. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the proposed approach.

In the realm of research, the global health challenge posed by lung cancer remains pronounced, contributing substantially to annual cancer-related fatalities. The critical imperative lies in the early identification of pulmonary nodules, frequently indicative of impending lung cancer, to enhance patient outcomes and diminish mortality rates. Computed Tomography (CT) imaging stands out as a pivotal diagnostic instrument for the timely detection of these nodules. The swift proliferation of medical imaging data has underscored the pressing necessity for precise and efficient methodologies dedicated to nodule segmentation and measurement. These approaches are crucial in assisting radiologists in their diagnostic and clinical decision-making endeavors. In this study, we introduced a thorough method for analyzing lung nodules, leveraging dataset from Far Eastern Memorial Hospital (FEMH) comprising original CT images and manually annotated ground truth masks obtained with the assistance of radiologists at FEMH. This dataset is utilized for the segmentation of nodules. We employed advanced deep learning models, specifically the U-Net architecture, identified as the optimal model through our training process. We made substantial progress in nodule segmentation, attaining an Intersection over Union (IoU) score of 0.824 and a Dice Coefficient of 0.903 for the FEMH dataset. Furthermore, our performance improved when utilizing the merged dataset comprising FEMH and Luna16, yielding an IoU score of 0.862 and a Dice Coefficient of 0.926. Luna16 has been extensively utilized in numerous studies related to nodule detection and segmentation. In the next phase of the study, the best-performing model from our segmentation phase was utilized to predict nodule masks on the merged dataset. Subsequently, we measured the size of each predicted nodule by comparing it with the size ground truth mask in millimeters.
