Recent research has shown that people are frequently searching for information with local intent. The existing systems fail to answer this class of questions as they are not mainly designed to handle it. In this paper, we propose LOCI, a mobile question answer system with a multimodal motivation scheme for local intent questions where users provide timely and accurate answers in a dynamic social network. LOCI mines users' shared and contextual information to identify the most relevant users for each question. The proposed multimodal motivation scheme exploits users' social ties and monetary rewards to raise their basic motivation levels. LOCI assigns questions to the best answerers via our three proposed algorithms: (i) LOCI-RT, which immediately assigns newly arrived questions/users to available users/questions, (ii) LOCI-LO, which uses short-time batches for locally optimal questions-users assignment, and (iii) LOCI-AD, which assigns short- and long-deadline questions immediately and via batching, respectively. We conduct: (i) a survey to support our assumptions regarding the proposed multimodal motivation scheme, and (ii) trace-driven experiments to evaluate the performance of the three proposed LOCI's algorithms. © 2020 IEEE.

This research introduces a deep learning framework that combines convolutional neural networks with autoencoders to improve the diagnostic accuracy of knee osteoarthritis. The study utilized a publicly available dataset from the Mendeley Data repository, where knee joint images were preprocessed using Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization to enhance contrast and ensure consistent image sizing. Initially, an autoencoder was employed in an unsupervised manner to learn compressed representations of the data. These representations were then used to train a CNN to classify knee images into 'healthy' and 'osteoarthritic' categories. The model was trained using an 80:20 split for training and testing data, incorporating early stopping and data augmentation techniques to prevent overfitting and enhance generalization. Performance metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and the area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic curve (ROCAUC) were used to evaluate the model, resulting in a high test accuracy of 98.95%. The high precision and recall rates further confirmed the model's robustness in diagnosing KOA. To enhance interpretability, Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) was applied to identify critical regions in the images that influenced the model's decisions. Additionally, t-Distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (t-SNE) was used to visualize the high-dimensional encoded features in a two-dimensional space, providing deeper insights into how the model differentiates between classes. The promising results of this deep learning approach suggest its potential for broader applications in medical imaging diagnostics. By providing healthcare professionals with a tool that enhances diagnostic accuracy and operational efficiency, this framework lays the foundation for developing scalable, AI-driven diagnostic systems for various complex medical conditions. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. Learning activities are an indicator of the learner's desire to learn during the learning process. The pattern of learner action is related to learning activities. In this case, in extracting the learning process, it is necessary to collect a lot of data through analysis of the learning process. The purpose of this study is to recommend and report the performance of an activity tracking system equipped with visual artifacts as an educational data mining approach to analyze action patterns when learners complete the arrangement of program code lines in each programming problem. In this study, data were taken from activity recordings when learners used interactive learning media for a basic programming subject called TOLSYASUPI-EduMed which had problem-solving learning models embedded in their interactions. Learning Analytics is used as a method of this research and data relationships from learner actions during the learning process using the “if-then” rule. Log data is used for recording and detecting activities carried out by learners. We confirm that the results of the study are based on the findings of the data relationship that if the lines of program code are too long (more than five lines) then almost all learners experience a bottleneck condition. The completion time of each question and the number of iterations in completing the program code lines for each question have also been recorded and have a pattern of connection between the data. The information that has been obtained is then forwarded to teachers or stakeholders as key information to make appropriate feedback to learners based on the results as a means of analyzing and evaluating the programming learning process.

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) are powerful for the representation learning of graph-structured data. Most of the GNNs use a message-passing scheme, where the embedding of a node is iteratively updated by aggregating the information from its neighbors. To achieve a better expressive capability of node influences, attention mechanism has grown to be popular to assign trainable weights to the nodes in aggregation. Though the attention-based GNNs have achieved remarkable results in various tasks, a clear understanding of their discriminative capacities is missing. In this work, we present a theoretical analysis of the representational properties of the GNN that adopts the attention mechanism as an aggregator. Our analysis determines all cases when those attention-based GNNs can always fail to distinguish certain distinct structures. Those cases appear due to the ignorance of cardinality information in attention-based aggregation. To improve the performance of attention-based GNNs, we propose cardinality preserved attention (CPA) models that can be applied to any kind of attention mechanisms. Our experiments on node and graph classification confirm our theoretical analysis and show the competitive performance of our CPA models. Device degradation due to hot carrier injection (HCI) in different Y-gate HEMT devices is thoroughly analyzed. To further understand the HCI reliability of the Y-gate HEMT devices, the device is fabricated with AlGaN/GaN structure with different top lengths (Ltop). An HCI stress time of 6000 s was conducted on these devices, while V t stability in other stress time domains, leakage current, and transconductance degradation are also discussed. In this work, we have demonstrated that increasing the LTop length could avoid the virtual gate effect and disperse the influence of the electric field under HCI stress. Furthermore, the effects of trapping in various locations, such as in the bulk SiN or AlGaN/GaN interface has been discussed. These trapping effects caused by the HCI stress might be the source of the Vth shift. Overall, The large Y-gate HEMT showed the lowest degradation of DC characteristics after the long HCI stress test. © 2023 The Electrochemical Society ("ECS"). Local Periodicity-Based Beat Tracking for Expressive Classical Piano Music

To model the periodicity of beats, state-of-the-art beat tracking systems use "post-processing trackers" (PPTs) that rely on several empirically determined global assumptions for tempo transition, which work well for music with a steady tempo. For expressive classical music, however, these assumptions can be too rigid. With two large datasets of Western classical piano music, namely the Aligned Scores and Performances (ASAP) dataset and a dataset of Chopin's Mazurkas (Maz-5), we report on experiments showing the failure of existing PPTs to cope with local tempo changes, thus calling for new methods. In this paper, we propose a new local periodicity-based PPT, called predominant local pulse-based dynamic programming (PLPDP) tracking, that allows for more flexible tempo transitions. Specifically, the new PPT incorporates a method called "predominant local pulses" (PLP) in combination with a dynamic programming (DP) component to jointly consider the locally detected periodicity and beat activation strength at each time instant. Accordingly, PLPDP accounts for the local periodicity, rather than relying on a global tempo assumption. Compared to existing PPTs, PLPDP particularly enhances the recall values at the cost of a lower precision, resulting in an overall improvement of F1-score for beat tracking in ASAP (from 0.473 to 0.493) and Maz-5 (from 0.595 to 0.838). © 2023, CC BY.

Device degradation due to hot carrier injection (HCI) in multi-fin 20 nm and 10 nm N- and P-type FinFET devices are thoroughly analyzed. To further understand the HCI reliability of the four FinFET devices, the device is fabricated with a standard Vt base and low Vt base gate stacks with different work functions. It is evident that: (i) The standard Vt device sustains lower effective stress bias due to the difference in threshold voltage, resulting in a more stable threshold voltage than the low Vt base device, and (ii) the transconductance of the single N- and P-type FinFET is more severely degraded than the multi-fin N- and P-type FinFET, mainly because multi N- and P-type Finfet has coupe effect, which effectively reduces the impact of HCI. © 2023 The Electrochemical Society ("ECS"). We present high angular resolution measurements of the thermal Sunyaev–Zel’dovich effect (SZE) toward two galaxy clusters, RCS J2319+0038 at z = 0.9 and HSC J0947−0119 at z = 1.1, by the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Band 3. They are supplemented with available Chandra X-ray data, optical data taken by Hyper Suprime-Cam on Subaru, and millimeter-wave SZE data from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope. Taking into account departures from spherical symmetry, we have reconstructed non-parametrically the inner pressure profile of two clusters as well as electron temperature and density profiles for RCS J2319+0038. This is one of the first such measurements for an individual cluster at z 0.9. We find that the inner pressure profile of both clusters is much shallower than that of local cool-core clusters. Our results consistently suggest that RCS J2319+0038 hosts a weak cool core, where radiative cooling is less significant than in local cool cores. On the other hand, HSC J0947−0119 exhibits an even shallower pressure profile than RCS J2319+0038 and is more likely to be a non-cool-core cluster. The SZE centroid position is offset by more than 140 h−170 kpc from the peaks of galaxy distribution in HSC J0947−0119, suggesting a stronger influence of mergers in this cluster. We conclude that these distant clusters are at a very early stage of developing the cool cores typically found in clusters at lower redshifts. © The Author(s) 2023.
