Mass accountancy measurement is a nuclear nonproliferation application which utilizes coincidence and multiplicity counters to verify special nuclear material declarations. With a well-designed and efficient detector system, several relevant parameters of the material can be verified simultaneously. 6 LiF/ZnS scintillating sheets may be used for this purpose due to a combination of high efficiency and short die-away times in systems designed with this material, but involve choices of detector geometry and exact material composition (e.g., the addition of Ni-quenching in the material) that must be optimized for the application. Multiplicity counting for verification of declared nuclear fuel mass involves neutron detection in conditions where several neutrons arrive in a short time window, with confounding gamma rays. This paper considers coincidence-based Pulse-Shape Discrimination (PSD) techniques developed to work under conditions of high pileup, and the performance of these algorithms with different detection materials. Simulated and real data from modern LiF/ZnS scintillator systems are evaluated with these techniques and the relationship between the performance under pileup and material characteristics (e.g., neutron peak width and total light collection efficiency) are determined, to allow for an optimal choice of detector and material.

The design and assessment of development initiatives is increasingly participatory, where decision makers consider feedback from affected populations. While digital data collection facilitates faster and more reliable analysis, existing data collection tools are not optimized for unstructured qualitative (textual) data and peer-to-peer participant collaboration. In this paper, we propose a system called the Development Collaborative Assessment and Feedback Engine version 1.0 (DevCAFE), a customizable participatory assessment platform that collects and integrates quantitative assessment, qualitative feedback and peer-to-peer collaborative filtering. DevCAFE incorporates a library of statistical analyses for researchers to quickly identify quantitative and qualitative trends while collecting field data. DevCAFE can run on any mobile device with a Web-browser and can work with or without Internet connectivity. We present results from two pilot projects: (1) 137 participants evaluating family planning education trainings at three Nutrition Education Centers in rural Uganda, and (2) 4,518 participants evaluating policy priorities for elected leaders in the June 2015 Mexico mid-term elections. DevCAFE collected over 19,000 peer-to-peer ratings of 336 submitted ideas. Feedback gathered through DevCAFE enabled targeted reforms to the family planning efforts in Uganda and the need for increased government attention to public safety in Mexico. We examine the efficiency of the Major League Baseball over-under betting market. Previous research in this area was unable to correctly test market efficiency because a data-set including the odds at which wagers were placed was unavailable. Using a data-set that includes both run lines and money lines, we find little evidence that the over-under market is inefficient. © 2014 © 2014 Taylor & Francis.

Nutritional changes are commonly related to children with cerebral palsy (CP), since these are problems as: dysphagia, vomiting and gastrointestinal reflux. For nutritional monitoring, body composition has become an important tool and has been present in this population assessments routine. In this sense, the aim of this study was to develop an equation for body composition estimate for children with cerebral palsy, aged between 5 and 6 years, using skinfolds, from the results of body composition obtained by Dual Energy X-rays Absormetry (DEXA). The study included 10 male children with cerebral palsy, aged between five and six-years-old, who participated in the physical therapy intensive program in Vitória research center, Curitiba, Brazil. Participants were assessed by: the Gross Motor Function Classification System;DEXA;and skinfold thickness. The skinfolds that showed better correlation with the total fat percentage and segmental fat percentage were: biceps and abdominal. The results of the regression analysis obtained equations to estimate the fat percentage by skinfold thickness with R2: 1.000 and 0.971, to seven and two skinfold thickness, respectively. In this sense, it is recommended to use the equation that utilizes the biceps and abdominal skinfolds thickness to estimate fat percentage of children with cerebral palsy, as this presents good estimation indicators. © Springer International Publishing Swit zerland 2014.

Path tracking in wireless and mobile environments is a fundamental technology for ubiquitous location-based services (LBSs). In particular, it is very challenging to develop highly accurate and cost-efficient tracking systems applied to the anonymous areas where the floor plans are not available for security and privacy reasons. This paper proposes a novel path tracking approach for large Wi-Fi areas based on the time-stamped unlabeled mobility map which is constructed from Smith-Waterman received signal strength (RSS) measurement matching. Instead of conventional location fingerprinting, we construct mobility map with the technique of dimension reduction from the raw measurement space into a low-dimensional embedded manifold. The feasibility of our proposed approach is verified by the real-world experiments in the HKUST campus Wi-Fi networks, sMobileNet. The experimental results prove that our approach is adaptive and capable of achieving an adequate precision level in path tracking. © 2014 Mu Zhou et al.

Unloaded and 0.25-1.0 wt% Pt-loaded WO3 nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrothermal method using sodium tungstate dihydrate and sodium chloride as precursors in an acidic condition and impregnated using platinum acetylacetonate. Pt-loaded WO3 films on an Al2O 3 substrate with interdigitated Au electrodes were prepared by spin-coating technique. The response of WO3 sensors with different Pt-loading concentrations was tested towards 0.01-1.0 vol% of H2 in air as a function of operating temperature (200-350 °C). The 1.0 wt% Pt-loaded WO3 sensing film showed the highest response of ∼2.16 × 104 to 1.0 vol% H2 at 250 °C. Therefore, an operating temperature of 250 °C was optimal for H2 detection. The responses of 1.0 wt% Pt-loaded WO3 sensing film to other flammable gases, including C2H5OH, C2H4 and CO, were considerably less, demonstrating Pt-loaded WO3 sensing film to be highly selective to H2. © 2014, Hydrogen Energy Publications, LLC.
