This paper presents bandpass filter (BPF) comprising substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) and Archimedean spiral slots, achieving ultra-narrowband, low insertion loss and high selectivity in the millimeter-wave band. Strong current disturbances can be obtained by etching Archimedean spiral slots on each surface of the SIW cavity, which excite the narrow-band filtering characteristics for the SIW cavity. In addition, rotating the Archimedean spiral slots can optimize the input impedance characteristics to achieve the desired impedance matching. A pair of metallic vias are loaded laterally on the SIW cavity to optimize the impedance characteristics of the BPF. A unit cell (UC) of the proposed BPF is composed of the SIW cavity, lateral loaded metallic vias, and Archimedean spiral slots. Ultimately, the three SIW unit cells are cascaded together to get better out-of-band rejection characteristics and serve as our final design. The simulation results demonstrates that the proposed BPF has a center frequency of 31.25GHz, insertion loss as low as 1.25dB, 3-dB bandwidth as narrow as 1.12%, and a low profile of 1.18λ×0.51λ, which has strong potential for use in millimeter-wave detectors and radar applications. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents human pose estimation using millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar technology capable of penetrating obstacles. Operating within the frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) at 60 - 64 GHz, our radar system generates signals conducive to accurate human pose representation. Our data processing framework focuses on producing point cloud data, effectively capturing each human movement. Results are visualized through a 2D graph, with the z-axis representing time. Experimental data, collected from various activities conducted behind different walls, underwent thorough analysis, comparing point cloud positions with actual human postures. The outcomes affirm the effectiveness of mmWave radar systems, positioned behind obstacles, in accurately extracting human postures. © 2024 IEEE.

Enhanced U-Net and PSO-Optimized ANFIS for Classifying Fish Diseases in Underwater Images

Fish diseases are among the major limiting factors to increase global aquaculture production. They lead to increased fish mortality, low breeding and growth rates, and low meat quality. The success of aquaculture is heavily dependent on the timely identification of disease. Therefore, we propose a fuzzy U-Net model to automatically identify fish disease from underwater images. U-Net is enhanced with multi-head channel and spatial attention and used to segment infected fish regions from fish disease images. Color pixel intensity features are then extracted from the localized regions, a form of guided feature extraction. Fuzzy C-means clustering is then used to find the cluster centroids and data distribution within the clusters, for the design of fuzzy membership functions. Moreover, the number of clusters are determined by silhouette score. Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is then trained, tested, and cross-validated for fish disease identification. The model parameters are optimized using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and compared with gradient-based methods. For image segmentation, the enhanced U-Net achieved a mean intersection over union (IoU) of 86.29%, mean pixel accuracy of 90.94%, mean precision of 93.58%, and mean recall value of 89.94% on 42 test images. Subsequently, ANFIS with PSO achieved overall superior performance on fish disease identification over gradient-based methods, with accuracy of 99.31%, precision of 99.00%, recall of 99.00%, and F1-score of 99.00%. The high-performance results of the optimized ANFIS confirm the robustness and efficacy of the proposed method to automatically identify fish diseases in aquaculture. © The Author(s) under exclusive licence to Taiwan Fuzzy Systems Association 2024.

This paper concerns ultimately bounded output-feedback control problems for networked systems with unknown nonlinear dynamics. Sensor-to-observer signal transmission is facilitated over networks that has communication *** transmissions are carried out over an unreliable communication channel. In order to enhance the utilization rate of measurement data, a buffer-aided strategy is novelly employed to store historical measurements when communication networks are inaccessible. Using the neural network technique, a novel observer-based controller is introduced to address effects of signal transmission behaviors and unknown nonlinear *** the application of stochastic analysis and Lyapunov stability, a joint framework is constructed for analyzing resultant system performance under the introduced controller. Subsequently, existence conditions for the desired output-feedback controller are delineated. The required parameters for the observerbased controller are then determined by resolving some specific matrix inequalities. Finally, a simulation example is showcased to confirm method efficacy.

A Soft-Switching Type-3 Fuzzy Control for electrically Driven Nonholonomic Robots

The wheeled mobile robots (WMRs) are used in extensive fields because of their simple structure and high efficiency. Due to the different applications of WMRs in different problems, the control problem of WMRs is challenging. Various frictions and disturbances complicate the dynamics of MRs. To cope with these problems, various control systems have been developed. But, in most of the existing methods, just the structural uncertainties are considered, and non-structural uncertainties such as disturbance and un-modeled dynamics are neglected. Although in some studies, the sliding mode controller (SMC) and its combination with different methods have been presented, however, in most of these controllers, to ensure stability, some coefficients are conservatively set with large values, and as a result, large control signals are generated. These signals are often not within the acceptable range, and their practical implementation is difficult. In this paper, an adaptive controller is designed that is robust under structural/un-structural uncertainties and unknown dynamics. In the designed controller, the coefficients and bounds of uncertainties are adjusted using an adaptive type-3 (T3) fuzzy system (FS). Based on back-stepping kinematic control, new adaptation laws, sufficient conditions for stability, and control signals are derived. Adaptive T3-FS is designed to create a soft-switching mechanism. New learning rules of T3-FS are derived to adjust the upper/lower bounds of structural and un-structural/uncertainties. The stability is mathematically analyzed and proved under uncertainties. Several simulations are given to prove the effectiveness. © 2013 IEEE.

Microwave antennas are essential elements for various applications,such as telecommunication,radar,sensing,and wireless power *** antennas are conventionally manufactured on rigid substrates using opaque materials,such as metal strips,metallic tapes,or epoxy pastes;thus,prohibiting their use in flexible and wearable devices,and simultaneously limiting their integration into existing optoelectronic ***,we demonstrate that mechanically flexible and optically transparent microwave antennas with high operational efficiencies can be readily fabricated using composite nanolayers deposited on common plastic *** composite nanolayer structure consists of an ultra-thin copper-doped silver film sandwiched between two dielectric films of tantalum pentoxide and aluminum *** material and thickness of each constituent layer are judiciously selected such that the whole structure exhibits an experimentally measured averaged visible transmittance as high as 98.94%compared to a bare plastic substrate,and simultaneously,a sheet resistance as low as 12.5Ω/*** representative types of microwave antennas are implemented:an omnidirectional dipole antenna,unidirectional Yagi-Uda antenna,low-profile patch antenna,and Fabry-Pérot cavity *** devices exhibit great mechanical flexibility with bending angle over 70°,high gain of up to 13.6 dBi,and large radiation efficiency of up to 84.5%.The proposed nano-engineered composites can be easily prepared over large areas on various types of substrates and simultaneously overcome the limitations of poor mechanical flexibility,low electrical conductivity,and reduced optical transparency usually faced by other constituent materials for flexible transparent microwave *** demonstrated flexible microwave antennas have various applications ranging from fifth-generation and vehicular communication systems to bio-signal monitors and wearable electronics.

This study proposes an adaptive nonsingular integral dynamic terminal sliding mode tracker/synchronizer for disturbed nonlinear systems along with its usage in safe communication systems. The convergence of the closed-loop structure under unknown uncertainty and disturbances is guaranteed via Lyapunov analysis. Furthermore, a parameter-tuning method is planned to approximate the upper bound of uncertainty and disturbance terms, since this latter is typically unknown in practice. The proposed approach is used to design a digital secure transmission scheme according to the chaotic systems. The effectiveness of the suggested approach is validated using computer simulations on a benchmark example of chaotic system. The obtained outcomes clearly confirm the ability of the planned control approach enables to attain the desired tracking/synchronizing performance despite the disturbances. Additionally, when implemented to the data encryption of a communication system, the proposed control and secure communication techniques enabled the complete and secure retrieval of the original digital sequences. © The Author(s) 2022.

We propose a novel framework for incorporating unlabeled data into semi-supervised classification problems, where scenarios involving the minimization of either i) adversarially robust or ii) non-robust loss functions have been considered. Notably, we allow the unlabeled samples to deviate slightly (in total variation sense) from the in-domain distribution. The core idea behind our framework is to combine Distributionally Robust Optimization (DRO) with self-supervised training. As a result, we also leverage efficient polynomial-time algorithms for the training stage. From a theoretical standpoint, we apply our framework on the classification problem of a mixture of two Gaussians in Rd, where in addition to the m independent and labeled samples from the true distribution, a set of n (usually with n m) out of domain and unlabeled samples are given as well. Using only the labeled data, it is known that the generalization error can be bounded by ∝ (d/m)1/2. However, using our method on both isotropic and non-isotropic Gaussian mixture models, one can derive a new set of analytically explicit and non-asymptotic bounds which show substantial improvement on the generalization error compared to ERM. Our results underscore two significant insights: 1) out-of-domain samples, even when unlabeled, can be harnessed to narrow the generalization gap, provided that the true data distribution adheres to a form of the "cluster assumption", and 2) the semi-supervised learning paradigm can be regarded as a special case of our framework when there are no distributional shifts. We validate our claims through experiments conducted on a variety of synthetic and real-world datasets. © 2024 12th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2024.
