The analysis of human mobility behavior through computational techniques finds applications in various domains and provides valuable insights for urban planning, transportation services, and a deeper understanding of human interactions in Smart Cities and Smart Environments. In this scenario, this study presents a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with the following main question: How are computational techniques being used to analyse human mobility behavior in Smart Cities and Smart Environments? A total of 5989 articles were initially found and filtered, resulting in 56 articles reviewed. As the main contributions, this study provides responses to 19 research questions. A list of the challenges and the computational techniques identified is provided. The algorithms, machine learning techniques and data-sources used by the reviewed studies are also presented and organized through taxonomies. A comprehensive discussion of the identified techniques is conducted, finishing with a compilation of challenges, open issues and research opportunities. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that reviewed human mobility behavior covering a wide range of scenarios, including urban mobility, public transport, points and regions of interest, ridesharing, bike-sharing, traffic analysis, driving behavior, electric vehicle charging stations planning, mobility on demand, crowd analysis and others.

This paper presents a new teaching tool with the goal of facilitating the learning of basic programming concepts among high school students and university freshmen. The tool incorporates a user-friendly visual interface and robotics, expanding on the existing Fluxprog project. New features were implemented, such as variables, logical and mathematical operations, conditional structures, and loops, to motivate students to engage in challenges that promote logical thinking. This paper presents the design, implementation and evaluation of a programming teaching tool using a visual language based on flowcharts, with subsequent data collection through a questionnaire and analysis of preliminary results to evaluate the user's experience while interacting with the tool.

Virtualization allows for more efficient hardware usage by allowing several instances of Operating Systems (OSs) or Virtual Machines (VMs) to run on a physical server. Containers are a subset of lightweight virtualization and reduce the overhead of virtualizing an entire OS by sharing the server's OS with the virtualized instances. Moreover, containers work closer to hardware than VMs and are similar to Linux processes, however, this limits connectivity freedom since processes do not have access to network addressing. To resemble container's communication to that of conventional networks we use network drivers. Studies show that in processing- or memory-bound scenarios, containers perform better than VMs, but in network-bound scenarios they achieve less performance. This work analyzes performance of networking implementations for Docker in different container allocations and workload scenarios.

In this paper, an approach to aid in introductory programming courses is presented, focused on students that had never had any contact with computer programming. The approach, that was introduced in a previous paper [3], presents programming concepts using icons and “flowcharts”, and a 3D robotics simulator (CoppeliaSim), that has free educational use. This time, a real version of the simulated robot, built using Arduino and cheap, easily obtainable electronic components, is also presented. The programs to control the robot are developed by graphically constructing flowcharts on the visual editor, and then following the execution of programs using the simulated (or real) robot, step by step. This graphic program editor is named “FluxProg”, and its 2nd version is now available online, with new features comprising variables, arithmetic and logic expressions, thus providing a complete programming environment.

Water supply utilities have been increasingly looking for solutions to reduce water wastage. Many efforts have been made aiming to promote a better management of this resource. Fraud detection is one of these actions, as the irregular violations are usually held precariously, thus, causing leaks. In this context, the use of technology in order to automate the identification of potential frauds can be an important support tool to avoid water waste. Thus, this research aims to apply pattern recognition techniques in the implementation of an automated detection of suspected irregularities cases in water meters, through image analysis. The proposed computer vision system is composed of three steps: the detection of the water meter location, obtained by OPF classifier and HOG descriptor, detecting the seals through morphological image processing and segmentation methods;and the classification of frauds, in which the condition of the water meter seals is assessed. We validated the proposed framework using a dataset containing images of water meter inspections. At the last step, the proposed framework reached an average accuracy up to 81.29%. We concluded that a computer vision system is a promising strategy and has potential to benefit the analysis of fraud detection. Copyright 2017 ACM.

Excellence in user experience (UX) has become a leading factor in developing successful products. In the context of virtual reality (VR), UX evaluations can be effective methods for understanding the acceptability, potential, and success of a product. However, different audiences have different perceptions regarding UX and its facets. With this in mind, the aim of this study is to determine whether the existence of prior experience (PE) can beget significant influence on Momentary UX when wearing the HTC VIVE to interact with a VR game. To assess, we asked two groups of users with different PEs to participate in a VR game session with HTC VIVE. An evaluation framework of UX in games was used to determinate how different user's backgrounds can influence UX. From the results obtained, some considerations are presented about the factors that influenced UX, concluding that prior experience with VR technology does not significantly affect Momentary UX.
