This paper presents Koch fractal aperture-coupled patch antennas operating in industrial scientific and medical band at 60 GHz (57 GHz to 64 GHz), for on-chip application. This work is the continuation of the development of aperture-coupled antennas with aperture and patch element built in 2 μm-thick aluminum lying on two layers of silicon with a height of 200 μm. The use of Koch fractal allowed the development of aperture-coupled antennas of greater perimeter with more metal in the patch elements, which promoted an increase in the gain. The observed gain for Koch fractal level 2 was of 10.55 dBi, with a bandwidth of 7.23 GHz, covering the ISM 60 GHz Band, and an increase of less than 10% in total patch dimension. For Koch fractal levels 0 (square), a polarization close to circular was achieved, with an axial ratio less than 6 at resonant frequencies. © 2018 IEEE.

The purpose of this paper is to present two new noise reduction filters techniques in the CT image space, in order to provide a better quality to the images acquired with low radiation exposure. For the noise reduction, a new denoising technique is presented based on a pointwise Maximum a posteriori (MAP). The noise is considered Gaussian with zero mean, as observed experimentally, and the variance is estimated considering a signal-independent noise. For the a priori density of the signal, we used different non-negative probability densities (reflecting the fact that the pixels of an image are non-negative). In another approach, the histogram of the images were segmented into unimodal parts and each segment was filtered using the filter based on the MAP criterion with the a priori density that best fits it. After filtering, the evaluation of the method is performed using the following criteria: Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio, Universal Image Quality Index and Structural Similarity Index. The 2D filtering results are compared with the results obtained by pointwise Wiener filter. Simulation and real CT images results show that the proposed techniques increase the image quality and improve the use of a low-dose CT protocol. © 2017 IEEE.

This paper presents an approach for Web service (WS) composition that enables the automatic adjustment of the composition at run-time to deal with WS execution flaws, e.g., WS unavailability, failure to execute properly or to produce desired results. The WS composition problem is converted into a nondeterministic planning problem which, by its turn, is mapped to SAT. Afterwards, a SAT solver obtains all the possible WS compositions with a maximum length N, which are then fused into a contingency strategy (CS) according to compatibility criteria. Such strategy enables the process execution engine to readily choose the most suitable WS composition to enact, and switch to an alternative composition with minimum adaptation cost in case of any WS execution flaw.

In this paper we proposed an approach based on genetic algorithm (GA) and digital image processing (DIP) to deal with the problem of cutting identical items (pieces) with irregular shapes in metal plates (objects). The goal is to maximize the number of items to be cut in the available area of the object. In this approach both object and the items are depicted as color images. The GA is responsible for generating the solutions, each one represented by a vector containing a set of translations and angles that indicate the positions and orientations for cutting the pieces. The evaluation of each solution generated by GA is performed by an image analysis algorithm that basically detects overlapping among the items placed on the object. Preliminary experiments indicate that the use of GA combined with DIP is a good alternative for solving the investigated problem. © 2015 ACM.

This paper conducts a Systematic Mapping in order to outline a current overview of digital serious games applications' evaluations for game-based learning purposes on computer science higher education. The search was performed on informatics' area electronic databases, resulting in 2,174 publications initially found. After sorting through the application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, remained 59. In the final phase, after thorough reading the extracted publications, has come up to 10 papers. The results reveal different practical approaches of digital serious games' applications evaluations that assess its different aspects' influence on students.

One way to provide more flexibility for computer networks is through software defined networks (SDN). This paradigm supports network applications, whose behavior is defined by the controllers. However, management applications SDN is a solution under explored, such applications are scattered in various repositories codes on-line, or are still embedded in the factory switches. This article proposes a model of organization and distribution of applications, called SDNrepo, may specify and model all the way that applications must do to reach the end user, in this case the controllers.

programmability is one of the key factors on software defined networks (SDN), once it allows to decouple between data plan and control plan. However, in such context, managing several applications' inputs and outputs is a little explored task on controllers field, which are not in a controlled and organized environment. This article proposes a method to make SDN applications to reach the administrator, allow him to manage his use in the network. This proposal is validated through performance tests in the repository, which stores the applications, along with developed modules to help its management and control, making the organization and coordination method safe, efficient and adjustable to any controller on software-defined network.

Software complexity has increased considerably over recent years, needing special target architectures as NoC-based MPSoCs to fulfill the heavy storage, communication and computation requirements. The design of these systems requires efficient methodologies aggregating partitioning and mapping. In these sense, this paper explores partitioning and mapping influence on energy consumption of homogeneous NoC-Based MPSoC. In addition, it compares two strategies to achieve efficient dynamic mappings: one that map tasks directly onto processors and another one that applies a previous static task-partitioning and uses this information to choose the dynamic task mapping. Experiments with various synthetic and four embedded applications show the efficiency of the second strategy that minimizes an average of 23.5% on energy consumption. © 2012 IEEE.
