Structural coloration generates colors by the interaction between incident light and micro-or nanoscale *** has received tremendous interest for decades,due to advantages including robustness against bleaching and environmentally friendly properties(compared with conventional pigments and dyes).As a versatile coloration strategy,the tuning of structural colors based on micro-and nanoscale photonic structures has been extensively explored and can enable a broad range of applications including displays,anti-counterfeiting,and ***,scholarly research on structural colors has had limited impact on commercial products because of their disadvantages in cost,scalability,and *** this review,we analyze the key challenges and opportunities in the development of structural *** first summarize the fundamental mechanisms and design strategies for structural colors while reviewing the recent progress in realizing dynamic structural *** promising potential applications including optical information processing and displays are also discussed while elucidating the most prominent challenges that prevent them from translating into technologies on the ***,we address the new opportunities that are underexplored by the structural coloration community but can be achieved through multidisciplinary research within the emerging research areas.

Semi-parametric inference based on adaptively collected data

Many standard estimators, when applied to adaptively collected data, fail to be asymptotically normal, thereby complicating the construction of confidence intervals. We address this challenge in a semi-parametric context: estimating the parameter vector of a generalized linear regression model contaminated by a non-parametric nuisance component. We construct suitably weighted estimating equations that account for adaptivity in data collection, and provide conditions under which the associated estimates are asymptotically normal. Our results characterize the degree of "explorability" required for asymptotic normality to hold. For the simpler problem of estimating a linear functional, we provide similar guarantees under much weaker assumptions. We illustrate our general theory with concrete consequences for various problems, including standard linear bandits and sparse generalized bandits, and compare with other methods via simulation studies. Some animals exhibit multi-modal locomotion capability to traverse a wide range of terrains and environments, such as amphibians that can swim and walk or birds that can fly and walk. This capability is extremely beneficial for expanding the animal's habitat range and they can choose the most energy efficient mode of locomotion in a given environment. The robotic biomimicry of this multi-modal locomotion capability can be very challenging but offer the same advantages. However, the expanded range of locomotion also increases the complexity of performing localization and path planning. In this work, we present our morphing multi-modal robot, which is capable of ground and aerial locomotion, and the implementation of readily available SLAM and path planning solutions to navigate a complex indoor environment. Audio fingerprinting was originally developed for music song identification, and over the years has been used for many more cases. With fingerprinting, an equivalent signature of the audio signal is saved in a simple form, so that it can be easily compared with another fingerprint. In this work, an audio fingerprinting algorithm is developed for the recognition of Greek Orthodox hymns. The main difference between music songs and Greek Orthodox hymns is the absence of music instruments, as there is only the chanter's voice. The test dataset consists of 10 hymns, and for each hymn there are 5 different performances, creating a dataset of 50 performances. Several tunable parameters of the fingerprinting technique are tested, like the parameters of the Hamming window, the frequency spectrum, the sample duration, and the sample noise, to find the differences in Greek Orthodox hymns. The recognition results for all cases are positive. The algorithm, in most cases, had a high recognition rate. even with noisy samples.

This paper focuses on boosting the performance of small cell networks(SCNs)by integrating multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)and nonorthogonal multiple access(NOMA)in consideration of imperfect channel-state information(CSI).The estimation error and the spatial randomness of base stations(BSs)are characterized by using Kronecker model and Poisson point process(PPP),*** outage probabilities of MIMO-NOMA enhanced SCNs are first derived in closed-form by taking into account two grouping policies,including random grouping and distance-based *** is revealed that the average outage probabilities are irrelevant to the intensity of BSs in the interference-limited regime,while the outage performance deteriorates if the intensity is sufficiently ***,as the channel uncertainty lessens,the asymptotic analyses manifest that the target rates must be restricted up to a bound to achieve an arbitrarily low outage probability in the absence of the inter-cell ***,highly correlated estimation error ameliorates the outage performance under a low quality of CSI,otherwise it behaves ***,the goodput is maximized by choosing appropriate precoding matrix,receiver filters and transmission *** the end,the numerical results verify our analysis and corroborate the superiority of our proposed algorithm.

As technologies advance rapidly, the urgency of remanufacturing is escalating. Efficient disassembly processes are crucial at the outset of remanufacturing. This work proposes an innovative disassembly scheme aimed at amplifying efficiency through the utilization of parallelization and human-robot collaboration in the context of a hybrid disassembly line. A single-objective mixed-integer programming model is developed to optimize disassembly profit. A discrete salp swarm algorithm is proposed to solve it since it is NP-hard. We have proposed and integrated uniform variation and two-point crossover operators in this algorithm. After comparing its results with those of the exact solver and other intelligent optimization methods, we conclude its competitive performance in both solution quality and efficiency.

A metasurface-based thin flat lens operating at millimeter wave frequencies is presented. The three-layered Huygen Metalens indicates collimating/focusing of broadband frequencies from 60 to 74 GHz, with a gain enhancement of 22.5 dBi at a central frequency of 69 GHz while fed by a dipole antenna. The metasurface transmission performance is designed and simulated by numerical and analytical approaches. By integrating multilayered 1-bit Huygens unit cells, the metasurface produced 180° phase coverage with constant high amplitude. The proposed design comprised of 50 × 50 unilcells, creating an area of 75 × 75mm 2 . The dipole antenna is applied to illuminate the proposed metasurface where the distance between the feeder and metalens is 27 mm. The result shows that the proposed metalens antenna achieves a maximum gain of 25 dBi at 69GHz GHz. The unique features of the proposed light-weight metalens will be widely used in wireless communication system for mmW wave frequencies.

This note studies state estimation in wireless networked control systems with secrecy against eavesdropping. Specifically, a sensor transmits a system state information to the estimator over a legitimate user link, and an eavesdropper overhears these data over its link independent of the user link. Each connection may be affected by packet losses and is modeled by a finite-state Markov channel (FSMC), an abstraction widely used to design wireless communication systems. This paper presents a novel concept of optimal mean square expected secrecy over FSMCs and delineates the design of a secrecy parameter requiring the user mean square estimation error (MSE) to be bounded and eavesdropper MSE unbounded. We illustrate the developed results on an example of an inverted pendulum on a cart whose parameters are estimated remotely over a wireless link exposed to an eavesdropper.

This paper investigates parameter learning problems under deficient excitation (DE). The DE condition is a rank-deficient, and therefore, a more general evolution of the well-known persistent excitation condition. Under the DE condition, a proposed online algorithm is able to calculate the identifiable and non-identifiable subspaces, and finally give an optimal parameter estimate in the sense of least squares. In particular, the learning error within the identifiable subspace exponentially converges to zero in the noise-free case, even without persistent excitation. The DE condition also provides a new perspective for solving distributed parameter learning problems, where the challenge is posed by local regressors that are often insufficiently excited. To improve knowledge of the unknown parameters, a cooperative learning protocol is proposed for a group of estimators that collect measured information under complementary DE conditions. This protocol allows each local estimator to operate locally in its identifiable subspace, and reach a consensus with neighbours in its non-identifiable subspace. As a result, the task of estimating unknown parameters can be achieved in a distributed way using cooperative local estimators. Application examples in system identification are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results developed in this paper. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.
