As industrial systems become more complex and interconnected, diagnosing faults accurately and in real time has become increasingly challenging. This paper explores how combining artificial intelligence with digital twin technology can address these challenges. We focus on developing hybrid Artificial intelligence models that leverage diverse data sources to enhance fault detection and diagnosis, enabling secure and distributed diagnostics. Digital twins, virtual models of physical systems, are shown to enhance predictive maintenance and decision-making by providing real-time system insights. What sets our work apart is the way we integrate these technologies to create scalable, adaptive, and context-aware diagnostic solutions. We demonstrate the potential of this approach across applications such as smart grids, manufacturing, and autonomous systems. Our goal is to provide researchers and practitioners with a practical and forward-looking framework for developing intelligent, reliable fault diagnosis systems in today’s data-rich industrial environments.

This paper presents a communication emulation model for enhancing the efficiency of multi-microgrid (MMG) networks, employing Network Simulator 3 (ns3). MMG systems require robust communication frameworks for coordination, particularly under varying traffic conditions. The introduced model accommodates multiple local area networks (LANs) that support efficient communication across multiple autonomous AC microgrids. The developed model facilitates seamless bidirectional information exchange between the microgrids' local controllers and the MMG control center (MMGCC), employing TCP/IP protocol to ensure high data transmission integrity and low latency. A detailed design in C++ is demonstrated, including the configuration of the communication nodes, topology, communication links, and quality of service (QoS) analysis. The network performance is rigorously assessed across low and high traffic conditions, with performance metrics such as throughput, delay, and percentage packet loss at each node. Results confirm the effectiveness of the introduced model in sustaining minimal packet loss, high throughput, and low delays under dynamic operating scenarios. These findings establish the developed model as a viable solution for meeting the real-time communication requirements of MMG energy management systems.

Effective energy storage system (ESS) management is critical for enhancing the performance of standalone DC microgrids, particularly when integrating renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic (PV) or wind systems. This research describes a new hybrid control technique to improve DC microgrid operations' efficiency and resiliency, especially when handling critical loads. This research presents a hybrid closed-loop control technique that uses Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and Proportional-Integral (PI) controllers to address the complex issues of dynamic load situations and transient disturbances. The RNN evaluates voltage errors to generate accurate reference currents, which the PI controllers then adjust to improve the performance of the bidirectional converter. Unlike standard PI-PI controls, our hybrid approach is particularly effective at regulating pulsed power loads (PPLs) and enhancing system response to transitory situations. The experimental results show that the RNN-PI control scheme significantly improves voltage regulation and transient responsiveness, exceeding conventional performance and resilience techniques. This approach provides a convincing solution for enhancing microgrid systems' stability and efficiency in various real-world applications.

Optimized Design of Sub-Harmonic Synchronous Machines

This paper presents an optimized design approach for sub-harmonic synchronous machines (SHSMs) to minimize torque ripple and improve performance for high-power electric vehicle applications. The proposed design incorporates a novel rotor harmonic winding configuration and utilizes advanced skewing techniques to achieve optimal spatial distribution of magnetic forces. Using Ansys Maxwell software, finite element analysis (FEA) was conducted on 8-pole, 48-slot SHSMs with a rated output of 1.3 kW and 900 rpm. Compared to earlier designs, the optimized 2-layer and 3-layer SHSMs demonstrated significant reductions in torque ripple—83.94% and 86.84%, respectively. This improvement is attributed to the uniform distribution of harmonic windings and carefully calibrated rotor skewing, both of which enhance spatial efficiency and magnetic field uniformity across the rotor. These configurations achieve lower torque ripple and maintain high efficiency and competitive average torque output, making them suitable alternatives to conventional wound rotor synchronous machines (WRSMs) and permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs). The findings validate the potential of the optimized SHSMs as high-performance, brushless solutions for electric vehicle propulsion, contributing to advancements in synchronous machine design and sustainable transportation technologies. © 1965-2012 IEEE.

Human-computer Interaction (HCI) is an interdisciplinary area of study focusing on the interaction of users and computers by scheming interactive computer interfaces. In addition, HCI systems need security to confirm user authentication, which is a crucial issue in these systems. Hence, user authentication is vital, allowing only authorized users to access data. Authentication is critical to the digital world since it provides security and safety for digital data. Moreover, a digital signature is an authentication method to confirm the accuracy and reliability of digital documents or communications. In addition, designing the circuit based on the complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology can affect the security and safety of digital data due to the excessive heat dissipation of circuits. On the other hand, quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) and reversible logic as alternative technologies to CMOS address these problems. Since QCA and reversible logic circuits have minimal energy dissipation, which is considered nearly zero, approaching these technologies proves extremely difficult for any hacker. This work presents an effective structure for the authenticator and human-computer interaction using QCA and IBM quantum computing with Qiskit simulations. The proposed structure has outperformed current circuits in terms of area, cell count, and latency. The paper demonstrates the QCA reversible logic layout of the proposed HCI authenticator and integrates IBM quantum computing simulations using Qiskit for validation. The implementation and testing of results are performed utilizing QCADesigner-2.0.3 and Qiskit simulation tools. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed design are validated through simulation-derived comparison values, and energy dissipation simulations prove that the suggested circuit dissipates minimal energy. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Simulations are commonly used to develop and evaluate video encryption algorithms. Although these approaches are useful for demonstrating theoretical feasibility and algorithm performance, they neglect practical challenges and real-world communication conditions. This oversight creates a critical gap in evaluating their effectiveness and security in practical applications. In this paper, we describe a novel, to the best of our knowledge, video encryption scheme that employs a modified chaotic Colpitts oscillator, a customized Josephus problem, and ribonucleic acid (RNA) operations, and is implemented in visible light communication (VLC) environment. The modified Colpitts oscillator reveals significant phenomena, the most prominent for this study being chaos. The encryption scheme involves block scrambling and pixel-level permutation employing a customized Josephus problem and a column and row shifting technique. Diffusion is then achieved through a custom Josephus problem-oriented RNA operation combined with basic RNA operations and cipher block chaining (CBC). Based on the results, we found that the customized Josephus problem-based permutation performed more efficiently than traditional methods, whereas the column and row shifting permutation was more robust. By eliminating key sequence coding and item-to-item operations, the proposed RNA operation reduces computational overhead. This video encryption scheme is proven to be effective and resilient at securing video data transmitted over the VLC channel, and it constitutes a significant advancement in areas such as surveillance, medical imaging, and military communication requiring robust secured video data. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group. Navigation services enable users to find the shortest path from a starting point S to a destination D, reducing time, gas, and traffic congestion. Still, navigation users risk the exposure of their sensitive location data. Our motivation arises from how users can accurately, securely, and efficiently navigate from S to Dwhile passing through k unordered stops, i.e., midway locations with a non-fixed visiting order. In this work, we formally define Semi-Constrained Navigation (SCN) and present a novel scheme Hermestoachieveaccurate,secure, andefficient SCN. Specifically, weproposeadivide-and-conquerapproachtostrikeagoodbalance betweenaccuracyandefficiency. It recursively depth-first-searches the whole area (a navigation tree) and invokes five carefully-crafted strategies stop-by-stop to compute three subpaths in three se quential subareas. We construct a path-distance oracle to encrypt the road graph and securely implement the strategies by using homomorphic encryption and garble circuits. We formally prove the security in the random oracle model and analyze the search complexity to be less than O(k2). We experiment over a real-world city map and compare with six baselines. Results show that path search with k = 4 among N = 1000 intersections requires 5.58 seconds with a 3.2% distance deviation rate and an 82.5% path similarity. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

The growth of hydrogen infrastructure is expected to aid in the integration of fluctuating renewable energy in distribution systems. To leverage the hydrogen system flexibility, this work presents a mixed-binary quadratic program (MBQP) model for synergistic operations of hydrogen and power distribution systems, wherein truck-mounted mobile hydrogen storage facilities are modeled for the schedule of their routes and loading/unloading quantities. A quantum-assisted combinatorial Benders' decomposition algorithm is designed for our MBQP model to deploy the solving of master and sub-problems on a quantum processing unit (QPU) and a classical CPU, respectively. The master problem is reformulated as a quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) problem, which can be efficiently solved by quantum annealers. The proposed approach was tested on a hybrid quantum annealing and classical computing platform. Results show a trend to outperform the CPU-based commercial solvers as the problem scale increases. © 1969-2012 IEEE.

Improved Feed-Forward Control of Active Power Decoupler for PV Microinverter With Non-Sinusoidal Power Decoupling Capability

In single-phase power conversion systems, there is an inherent difference between the dc-side constant and ac-side oscillating power, and power decoupling is required especially in applications like photovoltaic (PV) inverters. Active power decoupling (APD) converters are often used to balance instantaneous power while reducing the size of dc link capacitors and improving the system reliability. Conventionally, APD converters are controlled to decouple only sinusoidal power at double-line frequency. However, the control is further complicated when non-sinusoidal power is delivered due to non-linear circuit components, non-linear loads, or grid distortions. This paper proposes an improved feed-forward APD control scheme with the capability of decoupling non-sinusoidal power, which has application in single-phase systems, particularly all types of PV microinverters. The proposed feed-forward control includes the capacitor voltage calculation under arbitrary power harmonics and a dead-time compensation to increase the accuracy of duty prediction. The proposed algorithm can work as open-loop control to eliminate APD sensors and can serve as a feed-forward term in closed-loop control to improve power decoupling performance, thereby simplifying the controller design. The proposed approach is experimentally verified using a dc-parallel APD prototype, a 50 V 250 W microinverter with non-linear ac capacitor, and a diode rectifier load. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Weakly supervised video object segmentation (WSVOS) enables the identification of segmentation maps without requiring extensive annotations of object masks, relying instead on coarse video labels indicating object presence. WSVOS in surgical videos is, however, more challenging due to the complex interaction of multiple transient objects, such as surgical tools moving in and out of the surgical field. In this scenario, state-of-the-art WSVOS methods struggle to learn accurate segmentation maps. We address this problem by introducing ViDeo Spatio-Temporal disentanglement Networks (VDST-Net), a framework to disentangle complex spatio-temporal object interactions using semi-decoupled knowledge distillation to predict high-quality class activation maps (CAMs). A teacher network is designed to help a temporal-reasoning student network resolve activation conflicts, as the student leverages temporal dependencies when specifics about object location and timing in the video are not provided. We demonstrate the efficacy of our framework on a challenging surgical video dataset where objects are, on average, present in less than 60% of annotated frames, and compare our method to state-of-the-art methods on surgical data and on a public dataset commonly used to benchmark WSVOS. Our method outperforms state-of-the-art techniques and generates accurate segmentation masks under video-level weak supervision. Our code is available at: https://***/PCASOlab/VDST-net.
