This paper reports results from wideband MIMO measurements performed in short range fixed wireless environments at 5.2 GHz. The objective is to provide MIMO channel characterization results for the measured environments and contribute to the limited available similar studies. Two kinds of propagation scenarios are investigated, rooftop to rooftop and street to rooftop, at three different sites always under LOS propagation conditions. The analysis of measurement data is performed in the context of non physical modeling, providing insight into the statistics of the measured channels. In particular, the slow time varying nature of the channel is studied and the narrow Doppler spectrum shape is approximated. Furthermore, frequency correlation results are obtained and the typical delay dispersion measures are extracted. Then, the antenna correlation is studied and the error of the Kronecker product approximation is evaluated. Finally, capacity results are provided and the channel measurements are characterized in terms of spatial multiplexing quality and multipath richness through condition number analysis. © Springer 2006.

In the paper, a general topology of continuous-time Active-RC filter is presented. The model includes all possible Active-RC filter structures as particular cases and allows us to analyze them using a unified algebraic formalism. This makes it suitable for use in computer-aided analysis and design of Active-RC filters. By its construction, the model takes into account the finite DC gain and the finite bandwidth as well as non-zero output resistance of operational amplifiers. Filters with ideal OPAMPs can be treated as particular cases. Sensitivity and noise analysis of Active-RC filters is also performed in the proposed general setting. The correctness of the model is verified by comparison with SPICE simulation.

This modeling study investigates the functional role of pacemaker neurons in generating stable rhythms in the pre-Botzinger complex, a subcircuit of the respiratory pattern-generating circuitry in mammals. While the presence of pacemakers within the network is without doubt, the percentage and significance of such pacemakers is still unresolved. Here we revisited earlier network simulations by varying the fraction of pacemaker and non-pacemaker neurons within the network, and quantifying the robustness of the input parameter space and range of frequencies output by the network. Stable network rhythms were possible even with no pacemakers. However, we found that a network of at least 50% pacemakers produced the greatest range of output frequencies and had the more robust input space

Progressive preictal dynamical convergence and postictal divergence of dynamical EEG descriptors among brain regions has been reported in human temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and in a rodent model of TLE. There are also reports of anticonvulsant effects of high frequency stimulation of the hippocampus in humans. We postulate that this anticonvulsant effect is due to dynamical resetting by the electrical stimulation. The following study investigated the effects of acute hippocampal electrical stimulation on dynamical transitions in the brain of a spontaneously seizing animal model of TLE to test the hypothesis of divergence in dynamical values by electrical stimulation of the hippocampus

In this research, we propose an integrated and interactive framework to manage and retrieve large scale video archives. The video data are modeled by a hierarchical learning mechanism called HMMM (hierarchical Markov model mediator) and indexed by an innovative semantic video database clustering strategy. The cumulated user feedbacks are reused to update the affinity relationships of the video objects as well as their initial state probabilities. Correspondingly, both the high level semantics and user perceptions are employed in the video clustering strategy. The clustered video database is capable of providing appealing multimedia experience to the users because the modeled multimedia database system can learn the user's preferences and interests interactively

We propose an image formation algorithm for ultrasound imaging based on sparsity-driven regularization functionals. We consider data collected by synthetic transducer arrays, with the primary motivating application being nondestructive evaluation. Our framework involves the use of a physical optics-based forward model of the observation process; the formulation of an optimization problem for image formation; and the solution of that problem through efficient numerical algorithms. Our sparsity-driven, model-based approach achieves the preservation of physical features while suppressing spurious artifacts. It also provides robust reconstructions in the case of sparse observation apertures. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our imaging strategy on real ultrasound data

In pulsed phase thermography (PPT), amplitude and phase delay signatures are available following data acquisition;carried out in a similar way as in classical pulsed thermography, by applying a transformation algorithm such as the Fourier transform (FT) on thermal profiles. An extended review on PPT theory, including a new inversion technique for depth retrieval by correlating the depth with the blind frequency f_b (frequency at which a defect produces enough phase contrast to be detected), has already been proposed confirming PPT’s capabilities as a practical inversion technique. In this work, planar and non-planar CFRP composites were evaluated by quantitative PPT. Experimental results showed that, for the geometries studied here, surface shape has little impact on depth inversion results. © 2006 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved.
