Coordinating intersections in arterial networks is critical to the performance of urban transportation systems. Deep reinforcement learning (RL) has gained traction in traffic control research along with data-driven approaches for traffic control systems. To date, proposed deep RL-based traffic schemes control phase activation or duration. Yet, such approaches may bypass low-volume links for several cycles to optimize the network-level traffic flow. Here we propose a deep RL framework that dynamically adjusts offsets based on traffic states and preserves the planned phase timings and order derived from model-based methods. This framework improves arterial coordination while maintaining phase order and timing predictability. Using a validated and calibrated traffic model, we trained the policy of a deep RL agent that aims to reduce travel delays in the network. To evaluate the resulting policy, we compared its performance against the phase offsets deployed along a segment of Huntington Drive in the city of Arcadia. The resulting policy dynamically readjusts phase offsets in response to changes in traffic demand. Simulation results show that the proposed deep RL agent outperformed the baseline on average, effectively reducing delay time by 13.21% in the AM Scenario, 2.42% in the Noon scenario, and 6.2% in the PM scenario when offsets are adjusted in 15-minute intervals. Finally, we also show the robustness of our agent to extreme traffic conditions, such as demand surges in off-peak hours and localized traffic incidents. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. In this paper, we consider a strongly convex finite-sum minimization problem over a decentralized network and propose a communication-efficient decentralized Newton's method for solving it. The main challenges in designing such an algorithm come from three aspects: (i) mismatch between local gradients/ Hessians and the global ones;(ii) cost of sharing second-order information;(iii) tradeoff among computation and communication. To handle these challenges, we first apply dynamic average consensus (DAC) so that each node is able to use a local gradient approximation and a local Hessian approximation to track the global gradient and Hessian, respectively. Second, since exchanging Hessian approximations is far from communication-efficient, we require the nodes to exchange the compressed ones instead and then apply an error compensation mechanism to correct for the compression noise. Third, we introduce multistep consensus for exchanging local variables and local gradient approximations to balance between computation and communication. With novel analysis, we establish the globally linear (resp., asymptotically super-linear) convergence rate of the proposed method when m is constant (resp., tends to infinity), where m ≥ 1 is the number of consensus inner steps. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first super-linear convergence result for a communication-efficient decentralized Newton's method. Moreover, the rate we establish is provably faster than those of first-order methods. Our numerical results on various applications corroborate the theoretical findings. As a result, the concept of vehicle to vehicle charging (V2V) is gaining interest. Therefore, it is important to understand the concept of V2V charging. There is growing interest in e-mobility which is not only limited to electric vehicles but also mass transit systems, heavy duty vehicles, off-road vehicles and so on. With the intense focus on sustainability and achieving net zero emissions, most transit systems will be electrified. The impact of mass transit electrification on the existing power system needs a thorough and detailed analysis. Also, the upgrade from fuel powered transit systems to electric transit systems needs to be done with minimal changes to the existing power network and maximum utilization of available resources in the transit system. Therefore, the study of electric transit systems, its impact on the power system and challenges that can arise from electrifying railways are presented in this paper.

The increasing penetration of inverter-based generation such as solar, wind and battery energy storage systems (BESS) has an impact on the fault currents in a microgrid. Also, if the microgrid is grid-connected or islanded affects the fault current. As such, it is important to conduct fault analysis of microgrids in grid-connected and islanded modes with different penetration levels of inverter-based generation sources to understand the impact of increasing levels of renewable energy on the fault currents. Different types of faults in a microgrid with inverter-based resources are simulated and the results are discussed and analyzed in this paper.

Background: Precise estimation of cardiac patients’ current and future comorbidities is an important factor in prioritizing continuous physiological monitoring and new therapies. Machine learning (ML) models have shown satisfactory performance in short-term mortality prediction of patients with heart disease, while their utility in long-term predictions is limited. This study aims to investigate the performance of tree-based ML models on long-term mortality prediction and the effect of two recently introduced biomarkers on long-term mortality. Methods: This study utilized publicly available data from the Collaboration Center of Health Information Application (CCHIA) at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taiwan, China1. The data pertained to patients admitted to the cardiac care unit for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) between November 2003 and September 2004. Included in the dataset were patients over 20 years old diagnosed with type 1 AMI. Exclusion criteria encompassed patients with missing data for brachial pre-ejection period (bPEP) and brachial ejection time (bET), as well as those with atrial fibrillation or extremity amputations, resulting in a final cohort of 139 AMI patients. We collected and analyzed mortality data up to December 2018. All patients had provided informed consent, in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. Medical records were used to gather demographic and clinical data, including age, gender, body mass index (BMI), percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) status, and comorbidities such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), and non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). This paper proposes a novel framework for large-scale scene reconstruction based on 3D Gaussian splatting (3DGS) and aims to address the scalability and accuracy challenges faced by existing methods. For tackling the scalability issue, we split the large scene into multiple cells, and the candidate point-cloud and camera views of each cell are correlated through a visibility-based camera selection and a progressive point-cloud extension. To reinforce the rendering quality, three highlighted improvements are made in comparison with vanilla 3DGS, which are a strategy of the ray-Gaussian intersection and the novel Gaussians density control for learning efficiency, an appearance decoupling module based on ConvKAN network to solve uneven lighting conditions in large-scale scenes, and a refined final loss with the color loss, the depth distortion loss, and the normal consistency loss. Finally, the seamless stitching procedure is executed to merge the individual Gaussian radiance field for novel view synthesis across different cells. Evaluation of Mill19, Urban3D, and MatrixCity datasets shows that our method consistently generates more high-fidelity rendering results than state-of-the-art methods of large-scale scene reconstruction. In the third millennium, developing countries will confront significant environmental problems such as ozone depletion, global warming, the shortage of fossil resources, and greenhouse gas emissions. This research looked at a multigenerational system that can generate clean hydrogen, fresh water, electricity, heat, and cooling. The system's components include Rankine and Brayton cycles, an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC), flash desalination, an Alkaline electrolyzer, and a solar heliostat. The proposed process has been compared for two different start-up modes with a combustion chamber and solar heliostat to compare renewable and fossil fuel sources. This research evaluated various characteristics, including turbine pressure, system efficiency, solar radiation, and isentropic efficiency. The energy and exergy efficiency of the proposed system were obtained at around 78.93% and 47.56%, respectively. Exergy study revealed that heat exchangers and alkaline electrolyzers had the greatest exergy destruction rates, at 78.93% and 47.56%, respectively. The suggested system produces 0.04663 kg/s of hydrogen. Results indicate that at the best operational conditions, the exergetic efficiency, power, and hydrogen generation of 56%, 6000 kW, and 1.28 kg/s is reached, respectively. Also, With a 15% improvement in the Brayton cycle's isentropic efficacy, the quantity of hydrogen produced increases from 0.040 kg/s to 0.0520 kg/s. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

As the adoption for electric vehicles (EV) increases, the need for proper charging infrastructure also increases. As such, it is necessary to ensure proper charging infrastructure to meet the charging demand. Hence, studies concerning the planning of EV charging stations which include the sizing of distributed energy resources (DERs) in the station to reduce the peak demand on the grid. In this paper, EV charging stations were designed keeping in mind factors such as the EV charging load profile (on demand charging versus deferred charging), uncertainties in the load profile as well as the tariff rates. A sensitivity analysis was also carried out in order to examine the impact of several techno-economic parameters on the overall cost of the system.
