Worst-Case Integrity Attacks and Resilient State Estimation With Partially Secured Measurements

This paper examines the problem of optimal deception attacks against state estimation with partially secured measurements, where smart sensors transmit innovation sequences to the remote end for information fusion. Due to resource limitations or defensive countermeasures, the adversary can only modify data packets transmitted through unreliable channels. Meanwhile, the attack should be synthesized with sophistication to deceive an anomaly detector. To investigate the vulnerabilities of such estimation systems without feedback links and enhance security performance, the optimal attack policy is derived by formulating and explicitly solving a convex optimization problem, with the goal of maximizing the sum of estimation errors. Subsequently, a novel attack detection and resilient state estimation algorithm is proposed to ensure an acceptable level of estimation accuracy. The theoretical performance metrics, including false alarm rates for the proposed detector, are provided. Finally, the effectiveness of the results is confirmed through numerical examples. © 2014 IEEE.

Domestic service robots have the promising potential of bringing significant services to the general population, and more importantly, successful applications of universal domestic service robots can potentially help mitigate critical societal issues such as senior care. In order to do so, domestic service robots need to integrate seamlessly into home environments. However, home environments are dynamic, complex and filled with personal items. Therefore, ambiguity can quickly arise for robots operating in such rich environments. In this paper, we propose an object ambiguity determination system that can determine the level of ambiguity in robot object selection tasks with fuzzy logic data integration. Additionally, we propose a functional human attention assessment system with fuzzy logic that enables the robot to determine user attention before committing to general disambiguation processes. Our preliminary results show that the proposed fuzzy logic inference systems can reliably estimate the robot object selection task ambiguity from object confidence level and the number of potential target objects that satisfy the user's command. Furthermore, fuzzy inference is applied to decide human eye gaze direction robustly. These subsystems can be utilized in the context of human-robot interaction to guide the robot when to seek feedback from a human partner in order to disambiguate reference in domestic service tasks. Multisensor fusion estimation of nonlinear systems with intermittent observations and heavy-tailed noises

Inspired by the robust student t-distribution based nonlinear filter(RSTNF), a student tdistribution and unscented transform(UT) based filter for state estimation of heavy-tailed nonlinear dynamic systems, a modified RSTNF for intermittent observations is derived. The fusion estimation for nonlinear multisensor systems with intermittent observations and heavy-tailed measurement and process noises is *** this work, the centralized fusion, the sequential fusion, and the na¨?ve distributed fusion algorithms are presented, respectively. Theoretical analysis shows that the presented algorithms are effective, which are the efficient extension of the classical unscented Kalman filter(UKF) or the cubature Kalman filter(CKF) based algorithms with Gaussian noises. Simulation results show that the presented algorithms are effective and feasible.

Photoacoustic microscopy (PAM) is a novel implementation of photoacoustic imaging (PAI) for visualizing the 3D bio-structure, which is realized by raster scanning of the tissue. However, as three involved critical imaging parameters, imaging speed, lateral resolution, and penetration depth have mutual effect to one the other. The improvement of one parameter results in the degradation of other two parameters, which constrains the overall performance of the PAM system. Here, we propose to break these limitations by hardware and software co-design. Starting with low lateral resolution, low sampling rate AR-PAM imaging which possesses the deep penetration capability, we aim to enhance the lateral resolution and up sampling the images, so that high speed, super resolution, and deep penetration for the PAM system (HSD-PAM) can be achieved. Data-driven based algorithm is a promising approach to solve this issue, thereby a dedicated novel dual branch fusion network is proposed, which includes a high resolution branch and a high speed branch. Since the availability of switchable AR-OR-PAM imaging system, the corresponding low resolution, undersample AR-PAM and high resolution, full sampled OR-PAM image pairs are utilized for training the network. Extensive simulation and in vivo experiments have been conducted to validate the trained model, enhancement results have proved the proposed algorithm achieved the best perceptual and quantitative image quality. As a result, the imaging speed is increased 16× times and the imaging lateral resolution is improved 5× times, while the deep penetration merit of AR-PAM modality is still reserved. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

In recent years, as people’s living standards have improved and consumption concepts have been transformed, the demand for purchasing consumer electronics online has continued to grow, further stimulating the development of the logistics industry. Consequently, how to deliver consumer electronics to households at minimal cost has become a crucial factor that limits the development of the consumer technology industry. To tackle this problem, this paper studies the task assignment problem for multiple initially dispersed UAVs to deliver products to target locations while minimizing their total operation time. Each UAV can continuously provide delivery services to multiple target locations within its limited loading capacity and operation time. To solve this problem, we propose several hybrid multipopulation genetic algorithms. First, a novel crossover operator for the genetic algorithms is designed, through which a single parent chromosome can generate offspring individually. Second, two mutation mechanisms are performed to increase gene diversity. Third, multiple local search strategies are employed to enhance the populations’ fitness during each iteration of evolution. An improved 2-opt local search strategy is applied to optimize individual chromosomes when their similarity with the current best chromosome falls below a prescribed threshold. Alternatively, local search strategies are utilized for 1-opt, 2h-opt and interchange processes. Combining local search strategies, genetic operators, and the multi-population mechanism leads to several hybrid multi-population genetic algorithms. Numerical simulations and experimental tests demonstrate that the hybrid multi-population genetic algorithm, integrated with the improved 2-opt and 1-opt local search strategies, exhibits superior performance among the designed hybrid genetic algorithms, the minimum marginal cost algorithm (MMA), and the existing popular Co-evolutionary Multi-population Genetic Algorithm (CMGA). Data center power supply units (PSU) have high power density due to the increasing power demand and their low profiles. Air cooling proves to be increasingly difficult in mitigating the hot spots, and it also consumes extra energy in fluid delivery, air conditioning, and rejection to the ambience. In this work, we redesign and modify the PSU cooling infrastructure and adopt quiescent immersion cooling. This design removes all active air-cooling elements and enables heat capture. The PSU used in the experiments is a 2 kW 80 Plus Platinum commercial unit (Bel PET2000-12-074RA). The cooling performance was characterized by tracking the steady-state case temperatures of the switching semiconductors. Flutec PP1 was used to study the cooling performance variations with respect to PSU load and capture temperature. Conventional fan-cooled PSU with heat sinks served as the benchmark. Experiments show that two-phase immersion cooling grants an overall enhancement of 4.4× over the original air-cooling approach at 40 °C heat capture. The results suggest that heat rejection from the dielectric fluid to the riding heatsink is the main bottleneck, and further reduction of the thermal resistance would allow heat capture at a temperature closer to the liquid boiling point. The PSU thermal management approach studied here can help lower data center power usage effectiveness (PUE) while increasing PSU power delivery density.

User-facing applications running in modern datacenters exhibit irregular request patterns and are implemented using a multitude of services with tight latency requirements (30--250μs). These characteristics render existing energy-conserving techniques ineffective when processors are idle due to the long transition time (order of 100μs) from a deep CPU core idle power state (C-state). While prior works propose management techniques to mitigate this inefficiency, we tackle it at its root with AgileWatts (AW): a new deep CPU core C-state architecture optimized for datacenter server processors targeting latency-sensitive *** drastically reduces the transition latency from deep CPU core idle power states while retaining most of their power savings based on three key ideas. First, AW eliminates the latency (several microseconds) of saving/restoring the core context when powering-off/-on the core in a deep idle state by i) implementing medium-grained power-gates, carefully distributed across the CPU core, and ii) retaining context in the power-ungated domain. Second, AW eliminates the flush latency (several tens of microseconds) of the L1/L2 caches when entering a deep idle state by keeping L1/L2 content power-ungated. A small control logic also remains ungated to serve cache coherence traffic. AW implements cache sleep-mode and leakage reduction for the power-ungated domain by lowering a core's voltage to the minimum operational level. Third, using a state-of-the-art power efficient all-digital phase-locked loop (ADPLL) clock generator, AW keeps the PLL active and locked during the idle state, cutting microseconds of wake-up latency at negligible power *** evaluation with an accurate industrial-grade simulator calibrated against an Intel Skylake server shows that AW reduces the energy consumption of Memcached by up to 71% (35% on average) with <1% end-to-end performance degradation. We observe similar trends for other evaluated services (MySQL and Kafka).

Material identification is a technology that can help to identify the type of target *** approaches depend on expensive instruments,complicated pre-treatments and professional *** is difficult to find a substantial yet effective material identification method to meet the daily use *** this paper,we introduce a Wi-Fi-signal based material identification approach by measuring the amplitude ratio and phase difference as the key features in the material classifier,which can significantly reduce the cost and guarantee a high level *** practical measurement of WiFi based material identification,these two features are commonly interrupted by the software/hardware noise of the channel state information(CSI).To eliminate the inherent noise of CSI,we design a denoising method based on the antenna array of the commercial off-the-shelf(COTS)Wi-Fi *** that,the amplitude ratios and phase differences can be more stably utilized to classify the *** implement our system and evaluate its ability to identify materials in indoor *** result shows that our system can identify 10 commonly seen liquids with an average accuracy of 98.8%.It can also identify similar liquids with an overall accuracy higher than 95%,such as various concentrations of salt water.

This paper investigates the interaction of non-expert stakeholders with Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the energy urban domain, using the VIRTSI model and focusing on the capabilities of ChatGPT. VIRTSI (Variability and Impact of Reciprocal Trust States towards Intelligent systems), is a rigorous computational model for human-AI Interaction that simulates human trust states, spanning from overtrust to distrust, through user modelling and quantifies the efficiency of the interaction in VIRTSI-adapted confusion matrices. The research employed an 16-question survey, evaluating the accuracy and usefulness of ChatGPT's responses regarding energy consumption, cost-effective solutions, and renewable energy production for residential buildings in Greece. Each answer was assessed by human stakeholders who were non-expert in the energy Urban Domain (e.g house owners, building managers, etc.), who either accepted or rejected the responses based on validation processes. The analysis highlighted key aspects such as repetition, specification, and objections in the interaction with ChatGPT, offering insights into the effectiveness of AI in supporting energy-related decisions. The findings reveal that while AI can provide valuable information, user validation and expert consultation are critical for practical implementation. This highlights both the potential and limitations of integrating AI tools like ChatGPT in enhancing non-expert stakeholder engagement and decision-making in urban energy management, emphasizing the ongoing need for human expert involvement.
