Fine-tuning is the process of adapting the pre-trained large language models (LLMs) for downstream tasks. Due to substantial parameters, fine-tuning LLMs on mobile devices demands considerable memory resources, and suffers from high communication overhead and long fine-tuning delay. In this paper, we propose an efficient LLM fine-tuning scheme in wireless networks, named Split Fine-Tuning (SFT), which can accommodate LLM fine-tuning on mobile devices. Specifically, an LLM is split into a server-side part on the edge server and a device-side part on the mobile device to satisfy the device-side memory constraint. All devices share a server-side model and perform parallel fine-tuning to reduce fine-tuning delay. In addition, to reduce significant communication overhead incurred by data exchange between devices and the edge server, we propose a data compression scheme by jointly leveraging sparsification, stochastic quantization, and lossless encoding methods. Furthermore, we formulate a fine-tuning delay minimization problem under accuracy and memory constraints, taking device heterogeneity and channel dynamics into account. To solve the problem, the nonlinear mixed-integer problem is decoupled into two subproblems in different timescales. The two-timescale resource management algorithm is proposed to jointly optimize the compression rate and transformer block allocation in the large timescale using the augmented Lagrangian method, and determine spectrum resource allocation in the small timescale via sequential quadratic programming. Extensive simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can reduce the fine-tuning delay by up to 80.2% and communication overhead by 93.6% compared to state-of-the-art benchmarks, while satisfying device-side memory and model accuracy constraints. Multiple Ancillary Services Provision by Distributed Energy Resources in Active Distribution Networks

The electric power system is currently experiencing radical changes stemming from the increasing share of renewable energy resources and the consequent decommissioning of conventional power plants based on synchronous generators. Since the principal providers of ancillary services are being phased out, new flexibility and reserve providers are needed. The proliferation of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) in modern distribution networks has opened new possibilities for distribution system operators, enabling them to fill the market gap by harnessing the DER flexibility. This paper introduces a novel centralized MPC-based controller that enables the concurrent provision of voltage support, primary and secondary frequency control by adjusting the setpoints of a heterogeneous group of DERs in active distribution grids. The input-multirate control framework is used to accommodate the distinct timescales and provision requirements of each ancillary service and to ensure that the available resources are properly allocated. Furthermore, an efficient way for incorporating network constraints in the formulation is proposed, where network decomposition is applied to a linear power flow formulation together with network reduction. In addition, different timescale dynamics of the employed DERs and their capability curves are included. The performance of the proposed controller is evaluated on several case studies via dynamic simulations of the IEEE 33-bus system. © 2022, CC BY.

The comparison on the performance of interdigitated electrode (IDE) graphite and carbon nanotube (CNT) using titanium dioxide-multiwall carbon nanotube (TiO2-MWCNT) composite as sensing materials to detect hydrogen gas is presented in this research work. Screen printing technique has been selected to deposited IDE graphite and CNT conductive pastes as the electrode thick film on a flexible substrate, which is continued by firing at 120°C each. TiO2-MWCNT paste was printed as a sensing layer on top of IDE, followed by firing at 350°C. FESEM was used to characterize the morphological analysis of the IDE film. The operating temperature was varied at 27°C, 50°C and 100°C and concentration varied from 100-1000 ppm for gas hydrogen. The gas sensor demonstrated as n-type gas characteristics where the response of the gas sensor produced increased current from the results. The results purpose when the sensor was exposed to hydrogen gas. Therefore, the ability of IDE graphite and CNT as an electrode to harvest the electron from sensing materials were successfully proven. The IDE CNT showed better response compare to IDE graphite, but both electrodes were able to sense 100 - 1000 ppm at the operating temperature of 27°C, 50°C and 100°C. The optimal of operating temperature for IDE graphite is 50°C and IDE CNT is at room temperature for the hydrogen gas detections in this research work. © 2023 IEEE.

Distributed computing enables Internet of vehicle (IoV) services by collaboratively utilizing the computing resources from the network edge and the vehicles. However, the computing interruption issue caused by frequent edge network handoffs, and a severe shortage of computing resources are two problems in providing IoV services. High altitude platform station (HAPS) computing can be a promising addition to existing distributed computing frameworks due to its wide coverage and strong computational capabilities. In this regard, this paper proposes an adaptive scheme in a new distributed computing framework that involves HAPS computing to deal with the two problems of the IoV. Based on the diverse demands of vehicles, network dynamics, and the time-sensitivity of handoffs, the proposed scheme flexibly divides each task into three parts and assigns them to the vehicle, roadside units (RSUs), and a HAPS to perform synchronous computing. The proposed scheme also constrains the computing of tasks at RSUs such that they are completed before handoffs to avoid the risk of computing interruptions. We formulate a delay minimization problem that considers task-splitting ratio, transmit power, bandwidth allocation, and computing resource allocation. To solve the problem, variable replacement and successive convex approximation-based methods are proposed. The simulation results show that this scheme not only avoids the negative effects caused by handoffs in a flexible manner but also it improves the delay performance and maintains the delay stability.

LRDB: LSTM Raw data DNA Base-caller based on long-short term models in an active learning environment

The first important step in extracting DNA characters is using the output data of MinION devices in the form of electrical current signals. Various cutting-edge base callers use this data to detect the DNA characters based on the input. In this paper, we discuss several shortcomings of prior base callers in the case of time-critical applications, privacy-aware design, and the problem of catastrophic forgetting. Next, we propose the LRDB model, a lightweight open-source model for private developments with a better read-identity (0.35% increase) for the target bacterial samples in the paper. We have limited the extent of training data and benefited from the transfer learning algorithm to make the active usage of the LRDB viable in critical applications. Henceforth, less training time for adapting to new DNA samples (in our case, Bacterial samples) is needed. Furthermore, LRDB can be modified concerning the user constraints as the results show a negligible accuracy loss in case of using fewer parameters. We have also assessed the noise-tolerance property, which offers about a 1.439% decline in accuracy for a 15dB noise injection, and the performance metrics show that the model executes in a medium speed range compared with current cutting-edge models. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

To ensure the security of image information and facilitate efficient management in the cloud, the utilization of reversible data hiding in encrypted images (RDHEI) has emerged as pivotal. However, most existing RDHEI schemes suffer from lower security and limited embedding capacity. To tackle these challenges, we propose a reversible data hiding with secret encrypted image sharing and adaptive coding scheme. Specifically, in the encryption phase, we introduce an improved secret sharing (SS) encryption method based on the chinese remainder theorem for polynomials (CRTP). This method not only improves the security of encrypted images but also vacates a larger room for embedding. In the embedding phase, we introduce an adaptive coding embedding approach using XOR preservation (XORP) and huffman coding, which provides high embedding capacity. Experimental results and security analysis demonstrate that our proposed encryption method achieves optimal values in security indicators for encrypted images, such as information entropy, histograms, NPCR and UACI. The proposed embedding method is superior to some state-of-the-art schemes in terms of embedding capacity. Furthermore, in datasets BOSSBase and BOWS2, the average embedding rates of the proposed embedding approach can reach 2.1745 bpp and 2.0656 bpp, respectively. © 2025 IEEE.

Soft robotics has gained considerable attention in recent years for its structural flexibility and inherent safety in environmental interactions. To address the pitfalls of pneumatic actuation systems, namely sluggish response and inefficiencies, this paper introduces the design and fabrication of a Hydraulic-Driven Soft Robotic Arm (HDSRA). The study establishes a comprehensive platform that integrates actuation, sensing, and control software to provide an experimental prototype for validating control algorithms. A novel fabrication technique utilizing water-soluble PVA for single-step mold creation enhances the structural reliability of soft actuators. Through closed-loop control experiments, the HDSRA demonstrates rapid and precise tracking of 1Hz signals, encompassing sine, square, and ramp waves, thus confirming the platform's reliability. This foundational work lays a robust foundation for future research and the verification of control algorithms in HDSRAs. © 2024 The Authors.
