Microgrids can be designed to enhance the energy resilience of communities and critical infrastructures, such as hospitals, data centers, and communication networks, which are vulnerable to frequent weather-related disruption. Coordinating multiple microgrids in a network can leverage the geographical diversity of load and generation resources while enabling resilient and cost-effective planning of the distribution system. Designing a networked microgrid is complex, involving intricate technical assessment, cost-benefit analysis, site-specific requirements, and the evaluation of existing resources. Therefore, this paper proposes a hierarchical resilience planning framework and performs an extensive techno-economic analysis for the design of a networked microgrid. Hierarchical resilience planning involves technology sizing at an individual community level to meet the critical load and satisfy resilience criteria, and resource optimization at networked microgrid level to provide a higher level of resilience and energy adequacy. A real-world case of Puerto Rico's cooperative microgrid “Microrred de la Montaña” is investigated considering localized electricity tariffs, site-specific demand profiles, solar generation, and existing hydro resources. Multiple optimization scenarios are developed based on the resiliency requirement to estimate the capacity of solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage (BES) to be installed at each substation. The results provide the optimal sizing for individual community and networked microgrid to withstand 1day and 3-day outages along with the criteria for critical load.

This paper proposes a tractable distributionally robust chance-constrained conservation voltage reduction (DRCC-CVR) method with enriched data-based ambiguity set in unbalanced three-phase distribution systems. The increasing penetration of distributed renewable energy not only brings clean power but also challenges the voltage regulation and energy-saving performance of CVR by introducing high uncertainties to distribution systems. In most cases, the conventional robust optimization methods for CVR only provide conservative solutions. To better consider the impacts of load and PV generation uncertainties on CVR implementation in distribution systems and provide less conservative solutions, this paper develops a data-based DRCC-CVR model with tractable reformulation and data enrichment method. Even though the uncertainties of load and photovoltaic (PV) can be captured by data, the availability of smart meters (SMs) and micro-phasor measurement units (PMUs) is restricted by cost budget. The limited data access may hinder the performance of the proposed DRCC-CVR. Thus, we further present a data enrichment method to statistically recover the high-resolution load and PV generation data from low-resolution data with Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) and Markov Chain (MC) models, which can be used to construct a data-based moment ambiguity set of uncertainty distributions for the proposed DRCC-CVR. Finally, the nonlinear power flow and voltage dependant load models and DRCC with moment-based ambiguity set are reformulated to be computationally tractable and tested on a real distribution feeder in Midwest U. S. to validate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method. © 2022, CC BY.

The vulnerabilities of deep neural networks against adversarial examples have become a significant concern for deploying these models in sensitive domains. Devising a definitive defense against such attacks is proven to be challenging, and the methods relying on detecting adversarial samples are only valid when the attacker is oblivious to the detection mechanism. In this paper we propose a principled adversarial example detection method that can withstand norm-constrained white-box attacks. Inspired by one-versus-the-rest classification, in a K class classification problem, we train K binary classifiers where the i-th binary classifier is used to distinguish between clean data of class i and adversarially perturbed samples of other classes. At test time, we first use a trained classifier to get the predicted label (say k) of the input, and then use the k-th binary classifier to determine whether the input is a clean sample (of class k) or an adversarially perturbed example (of other classes). We further devise a generative approach to detecting/classifying adversarial examples by interpreting each binary classifier as an unnormalized density model of the class-conditional data. We provide comprehensive evaluation of the above adversarial example detection/classification methods, and demonstrate their competitive performances and compelling properties. © 2020 8th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2020. Many real-world applications of multi-agent reinforcement learning (RL), such as multi-robot navigation and decentralized control of cyber-physical systems, involve the cooperation of agents as a team with aligned objectives. We study multi-agent RL in the most basic cooperative setting — Markov teams — a class of Markov games where the cooperating agents share a common reward. We propose an algorithm in which each agent independently runs stage-based V-learning (a Q-learning style algorithm) to efficiently explore the unknown environment, while using a stochastic gradient descent (SGD) subroutine for policy updates. We show that the agents can learn an Ε-approximate Nash equilibrium policy in at most ∝ Õ(1/Ε4) episodes. Our results advocate the use of a novel stage-based V-learning approach to create a stage-wise stationary environment. We also show that under certain smoothness assumptions of the team, our algorithm can achieve a nearly team-optimal Nash equilibrium. Simulation results corroborate our theoretical findings. One key feature of our algorithm is being decentralized, in the sense that each agent has access to only the state and its local actions, and is even oblivious to the presence of the other agents. Neither communication among teammates nor coordination by a central controller is required during learning. Hence, our algorithm can readily generalize to an arbitrary number of agents, without suffering from the exponential dependence on the number of agents. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. Computational pathology foundation models (CPathFMs) have emerged as a powerful approach for analyzing histopathological data, leveraging self-supervised learning to extract robust feature representations from unlabeled whole-slide images. These models, categorized into uni-modal and multi-modal frameworks, have demonstrated promise in automating complex pathology tasks such as segmentation, classification, and biomarker discovery. However, the development of CPathFMs presents significant challenges, such as limited data accessibility, high variability across datasets, the necessity for domain-specific adaptation, and the lack of standardized evaluation benchmarks. This survey provides a comprehensive review of CPathFMs in computational pathology, focusing on datasets, adaptation strategies, and evaluation tasks. We analyze key techniques, such as contrastive learning and multi-modal integration, and highlight existing gaps in current research. Finally, we explore future directions from four perspectives for advancing CPathFMs. This survey serves as a valuable resource for researchers, clinicians, and AI practitioners, guiding the advancement of CPathFMs toward robust and clinically applicable AI-driven pathology solutions. As a promising technique for high-mobility wireless communications, orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) has been proved to enjoy excellent advantages with respect to traditional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Although multiple studies have considered index modulation (IM) based OTFS (IM-OTFS) schemes to further improve system performance, a challenging and open problem is the development of effective IM schemes and efficient receivers for practical OTFS systems that must operate in the presence of channel delays and Doppler shifts. In this paper, we propose two novel block-wise IM schemes for OTFS systems, named delay-IM with OTFS (DeIM-OTFS) and Doppler-IM with OTFS (DoIM-OTFS), where a block of delay/Doppler resource bins are activated simultaneously. Based on a maximum likelihood (ML) detector, we analyze upper bounds on the average bit error rates for the proposed DeIM-OTFS and DoIM-OTFS schemes, and verify their performance advantages over the existing IM-OTFS systems. We also develop a multi-layer joint symbol and activation pattern detection (MLJSAPD) algorithm and a customized message passing detection (CMPD) algorithm for our proposed DeIM-OTFS and DoIM-OTFS systems with low complexity. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed MLJSAPD and CMPD algorithms can achieve desired performance with robustness to the imperfect channel state information (CSI). © 2023, CC BY.

It is imperative for energy systems to reduce their environmental footprint in a cost-efficient manner, for which renwable energy sources (RES) and complementary technologies become desirable options to achieve said task. This is particularly the case for systems with different energy sources, as they’d be able to either address one specific type of energy demand and/or allow for the coupling of different energy carriers that would allow for technologies that normally don’t interact to start complementing each other. Therefore, this paper proposes various scenarios for the UCY campus in which hydrogen technologies would allow for the electrification of thermal demand while harnessing the surplus production coming from a solar park, which is modelled through the Integrate optimization tool and validated through DidSILENT PowerFactory. The results showcased a rise of up to 58% in self-sufficiency while the annual energy costs and CO2 emissions were reduced by 45% and 48% respectively.

In recent years, vision-based gesture adaptation has attracted great attention from many experts in the field of human-robot interaction, and many methods have been proposed and successfully applied, such as particle swarm optimization and genetic algorithm. However, the reduction of the error and energy consumption of a robot while paying attention to more subtle attitude changes is very important and *** view of these problems, we propose a population randomization-based multi-objective genetic *** gesture signal is processed with a slight change by imitating the biological evolution mechanisms. In the proposed algorithm, a random out-of-order matrix is added in the process of population evolution synthesis to prevent the premature grouping convergence of the new population. The weights of the objective function and the elite retention strategy are adopted, and the most adaptable individuals in each generation are inherited directly in the next generation without any recombination or mutation. To verify the effectiveness of the algorithm, preliminary application experiments are performed on the gesture adaptation of a robotic arm. The results are compared with the original signal, and the comparison shows that by using the proposed method, the energy consumption is reduced, and the end error is decreased to less than 3 mm while ensuring the tracking effect of the robotic arm. These obtained results meet the communication requirements for human-robot interactions such as handshakes. Moreover, the proposed method has better performance, uses less energy, and has a smaller tracking error than the particle swarm optimization, the single-objective genetic algorithm, and the traditional multi-objective genetic algorithm. A preliminary application experiment indicates that the robotic arm can adapt to human gestures in real time.

Leukemia is a kind of blood cancer that damages the cells in the blood and bone marrow of the human *** produces cancerous blood cells that disturb the human’s immune system and significantly affect bone marrow’s production ability to effectively create different types of blood cells like red blood cells(RBCs)and white blood cells(WBC),and *** can be diagnosed manually by taking a complete blood count test of the patient’s blood,from which medical professionals can investigate the signs of leukemia ***,two other methods,microscopic inspection of blood smears and bone marrow aspiration,are also utilized while examining the patient for ***,all these methods are labor-intensive,slow,inaccurate,and require a lot of human experience and *** authors have proposed automated detection systems for leukemia diagnosis to overcome these *** have deployed digital image processing and machine learning algorithms to classify the cells into normal and blast ***,these systems are more efficient,reliable,and fast than previous manual diagnosing ***,more work is required to classify leukemia-affected cells due to the complex characteristics of blood images and leukemia cells having much intra-class variability and inter-class *** this paper,we have proposed a robust automated system to diagnose leukemia and its *** have classified ALL into its sub-types based on FAB classification,i.e.,L1,L2,and L3 types with better *** have achieved 96.06%accuracy for subtypes classification,which is better when compared with the state-of-the-art methodologies.
