The problem of scalable video-on-demand (VoD) delivery has been extensively studied over the past years, in the context of wired networks. As VoD-based applications are gaining more and more attention, there is an increasing need of ubiquitous access for them. Wireless networks can be the answer to this need. However, the system behind the application must be scalable to deal with a growing amount of simultaneous accesses, while guaranteeing QoS. Thus the performance of VoD systems must be revisited in this new context, especially aiming scalability. In this paper, we present a preliminary study of a system-level design for VoD systems that operate over 802.11 networks, where commodity Access Points (APs) work collocated in no-overlapping channels which are orchestrated by a central entity that is responsible for controlling the association of clients to the APs. The simulation conducted demonstrates that our system design, using the generic least loaded first heuristic, can use the full aggregate bandwidth as collocated APs allow to. Despite the effective use of bandwidth, it achieved a low blockage rate only for short-length videos at low arrival rates, and performed poorly when video length and arrival rate grow.

A new class of three-variable orthogonal polynomials, defined as eigenfunctions of a second order PDE operator, is studied. These polynomials are orthogonal over a curved tetrahedron region, which can be seen as a mapping from a traditional tetrahedron, and can be taken as an extension of the 2-D Steiner domain. The polynomials can be viewed as Jacobi polynomials on such a domain. Three-term relations are derived explicitly. The number of the individual terms, involved in the recurrences relations, are shown to be independent on the total degree of the polynomials. The numbers now are determined to be five and seven, with respect to two conjugate variables z, $ \bar z $ and a real variable r, respectively. Three examples are discussed in details, which can be regarded as the analogues of the Chebyshev polynomials of the first and the second kinds, and Legendre polynomials.

Performance and energy consumption of high performance computing (HPC) interconnection networks have a great significance in the whole supercomputer, and building up HPC interconnection network simulation plat- form is very important for the research on HPC software and hardware technologies. To effectively evaluate the per- formance and energy consumption of HPC interconnection networks, this article designs and implements a detailed and clock-driven HPC interconnection network simulation plat- form, called HPC-NetSim. HPC-NetSim uses application- driven workloads and inherits the characteristics of the de- tailed and flexible cycle-accurate network simulator. Besides, it offers a large set of configurable network parameters in terms of topology and routing, and supports router's on/off states. We compare the simulated execution time with the real execution time of Tianhe-2 subsystem and the mean error is only 2.7%. In addition, we simulate the network behaviors with different network structures and low-power modes. The results are also consistent with the theoretical analyses.
