The work we are going to present concerns an extensible system that has been developed in order to recognize Greek sign language modules. By saying Greek sign language modules we mean either signs or finger-spelled words, formed in isolation or combined into sentences. Greek sign language (GSL) is the natural way of communication between deaf people in Greece. The system we have developed can be used in public services, where it could play the role of an interpreter from GSL to spoken Greek, permitting deaf people to communicate using their natural way of "speaking". Having contacted a great number of deaf people, we found out that most of them face a great difficulty in spelling Greek spoken words. Since the system is capable of recognizing finger-spelled words too, it could also be used as a trainer for deaf students during their attempt to learn Greek spoken words

Electropalatography is a well established technique for recording information on the patterns of contact between the tongue and the hard palate during speech, leading to a stream of binary vectors called electropalatograms, consisting of elecropalatographic events - contacts or non-contacts between the tongue and the palate. A data-driven approach to mapping the speech signal onto electropalatographic information is presented. A combination of principal component analysis and support vector regression is used, yielding classification scores of more than 93% on individual electropalatographic events, for a single speaker. DNA sequence assembly is a fundamental part of biological computing. However, most of the large-scale sequence assemblies require intensive computing power and huge storage. To speed up the assembly process, we here propose a method for large-scale DNA sequence assembly by using computing grid. The central idea of our method is to first cluster the input of fragment set into many non-intersected subsets using k-mers and then to distribute them to all nodes of the grid-computing system. Our method has accuracy of more than 92% on the test data sets under the simulated grid-computing system but costing shorter time and lower storage. Meteorology Grid Computing aims to provide scientist with seamless, reliable, secure and inexpensive access to meteorological resources. In this paper, we presented a semantic-based meteorology grid service registry, discovery and composition framework by combining grid technologies and the advantages of semantic web techniques. The main objective of the framework is to support automating the discovery, selection, and workflow composition of semantically described heterogeneous meteorological grid services, which offers the possibility of facilitating geographically distributed meteorological scientists to resolve complex scientific problems cooperately. With this framework, the key technologies such as semantic registry, semantic matchmaking, QoS ranking and composition model, will be discussed.

Considering the fact that the computing resources and NWP model developers within the framework of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) are distributed widespread across the countries, and that the NWP systems very much depend on datasharing, remote collaborative research, heavy computation, massive data and intensive services, the Meso-scale Model Application Grid (MMAG) has been established based on the grid technology. Ultimately this platform has aggregated the distributed computing resources and NWP software at CAMS, NMIC, STI, GRMC and GXMB. The GRAPES Meso-scale model runs routinely on MMAG and users can access the NWP products at the designated website. It also provides a remote collaborative research environment for the geographical distributed scientists to make contributions to the improvement of the GRAPES.

Its foundation is the interface theory for Web services, in which transaction features are incorporated. Within the framework, one may check non mutual invocation, compatibility and refinement of Web services at signature, conversation and protocol levels. At protocol level, we present a model checking approach to verifying the protocol properties in action set computation tree logic (ASCTL). The emerging service-oriented architectures based on Web services is fostering a new generation of intra- and inter-organizational cross-platform Web-based business applications. With the new architectures comes a new set of standards (e.g. XML, SOAP, WSDL, UDDI) for enabling self-describing interoperable Web services, as well as for modeling and implementing workflow or process-oriented Web applications. The latter kind of standards include the Web Service Business Process Execution language (BPEL) and the Web Service Choreography Description Language (WS-CDL). While BPEL supports the modeling and implementation of a particular (composite) Web service, WS-CDL can be seen as a behavioral modeling language for the collaboration between multiple parties (Web services) within the same business process. In this paper, we outline how communicating sequential processes (CSP) can be used as a formal basis for checking the behavioral consistency among the participants of a business process with respect to a choreography. RAM (random access memory) Grid is a new grid system aiming at memory resources sharing in wide-area network;it can improve the performance of memory intensive or IO intensive applications when lack of physical memory. Reducing or hiding the network overhead can improve the performance of RAM Grid, which lies on the overhead of network communication. In this paper, through the analysis of RAM Grid, a 'push' based prefetching mechanism is proposed for it. The corresponding prefetching algorithm, which comes from the sequential pattern mining method in data mining area, is also raised. The prefetching algorithm is evaluated and proved by trace driven simulation.
