In this manuscript, we present an energy-efficient alternating optimization framework based on the multi-antenna ambient backscatter communication (AmBSC) assisted cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) for next-generation (NG) internet-of-things (IoT) enabled communication networks. Specifically, the energy-efficiency maximization is achieved for the considered AmBSC-enabled multi-cluster cooperative IoT NOMA system by optimizing the active-beamforming vector and power-allocation coefficients (PAC) of IoT NOMA users at the transmitter, as well as passive-beamforming vector at the multiantenna assisted backscatter node. Usually, increasing the number of IoT NOMA users in each cluster results in inter-cluster interference (ICI) (among different clusters) and intra-cluster interference (among IoT NOMA users). To combat the impact of ICI, we exploit a zero-forcing (ZF) based active-beamforming, as well as an efficient clustering technique at the source node. Further, the effect of intra-cluster interference is mitigated by exploiting an efficient power-allocation policy that determines the PAC of IoT NOMA users under the quality-of-service (QoS), cooperation, SIC decoding, and power-budget constraints. Moreover, the considered non-convex passive-beamforming problem is transformed into a standard semi-definite programming (SDP) problem by exploiting the successive-convex approximation (SCA) approximation, as well as the difference of convex (DC) programming, where Rank-1 solution of passive-beamforming is obtained based on the penalty-based method. Furthermore, the numerical analysis of simulation results demonstrates that the proposed energy-efficiency maximization algorithm exhibits an efficient performance by achieving convergence within only a few iterations. SCSQ-MDD: A Detection Approach for Multi-Style Strokes of Chinese Characters

In the Chinese character writing task of the robotic arms, the stroke category and position information should be extracted by object detection. The detection algorithms based on predefined anchor frames have difficulty in resolving the differences among many different styles of Chinese character strokes. While the deformable detection transformer (deformable DETR) algorithms without predefined anchor frames result in some invalid sampling points having no contribution to the feature update of the current reference point due to the random sampling of sampling points in the deformable attention module. These processes cause the effectiveness of correlation calculations between reference points in Chinese strokes and their surrounding sampled points is limited. So that the speed of vector learning stroke features in the detection head is reduced. In view of this problem, a new detection method of multi-style strokes of Chinese characters via SCSQ-MDD (Simple Conditional Spatial Query Mask Deformable DETR) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a mask prediction layer is jointly determined using the shallow feature map of the Chinese character image and the query vector of the transformer encoder, which is used to filter the points with actual contribution and resample the points without contribution, so that the randomness of correlation calculation among reference points is solved. Secondly, by separating the content query and spatial query of the transformer deocder, the content embedding and spatial embedding can be separately focused on when cross-attention computations are performed. Thus the dependence of the prediction task on the content embedding is relaxed and the training process is simplified. Finally, the detection model without predefined anchor frames based on deformable DETR called SCSQ-MDD is constructed using the mask mechanism and the simple conditional spatial query mechanism, and trained and validated on a multi-style Chinese character stroke dataset

Events are considered as the fundamental building blocks of the world. Mining event-centric opinions can benefit decision making, people communication, and social good. Unfortunately, there is little literature addressing event-centric opinion mining, although which significantly diverges from the well-studied entity-centric opinion mining in connotation, structure, and expression. In this paper, we propose and formulate the task of event-centric opinion mining based on event-argument structure and expression categorizing theory. We also benchmark this task by constructing a pioneer corpus and designing a two-step benchmark framework. Experiment results show that event-centric opinion mining is feasible and challenging, and the proposed task, dataset, and baselines are beneficial for future studies. © 2022, CC BY.

Due to the increasing availability and functionality of image editing tools, many forensic techniques such as digital image authentication, source identification and tamper detection are important for forensic image analysis. In this paper, we describe a machine learning based system to address the forensic analysis of scanner devices. The proposed system uses deep-learning to automatically learn the intrinsic features from various scanned images. Our experimental results show that high accuracy can be achieved for source scanner identification. The proposed system can also generate a reliability map that indicates the manipulated regions in an scanned image.

To mitigate the radar and communication frequency overlapping caused by massive devices access, we propose a novel joint communication and sensing (JCS) system in this paper, where a micro base station (MiBS) can realize target sensing and cooperative communication simultaneously. Concretely, the MiBS, as the sensing equipment, can also serve as a full-duplex (FD) decode-and-forward (DF) relay to assist the end-to-end communication. To further improve the spectrum utilization, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is adopted such that the communication between the macro base station (MaBS) and the Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices. To facilitate the performance evaluation, the exact and asymptotic outage probabilities, ergodic rates, sensing probability of the system are characterized. Subsequently, two optimal power allocation (OPA) problems of maximizing the received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio of sensing signal and maximizing the sum rate for communication are designed that are solved by means of the Lagrangian method and function monotonicity. The simulation results demonstrate that: 1) the proposed JCS NOMA system can accomplish both communication enhancement and sensing function under the premise of the same power consumption as non-cooperative NOMA;2) the proposed OPA schemes manifest superiorities over a random power allocation scheme. In our study, we aimed to explore the psychiatric disorders, risk factors, and predictors of self-immolation among individuals admitted to Shahid Motahari Hospital in Tehran from 2019 to 2020. This cross-sectional study examines 64 hospitalized patients who received psychiatric counseling following self-immolation incidents. The rate of self-immolation varies significantly based on specific demographics. It is observed that in our population men had a higher rate of being unmarried (70.96 % vs 15.15 %), lower levels of education (70.96 % vs 63.63 % did not have a university degree), higher level of unemployment (54.83 % vs 30.30 %), younger age average with most men aging 15–24 (29.06 (SD = 9.33)) vs women 35–44 (35.27(SD = 10.27)) and higher prevalence of addiction (67.74 % vs 36.36 %) compared to women. On the other hand, women who attempted self-immolation mainly were married, involved in housekeeping, and tended to exhibit higher rates of depression (63.63 % vs 32.25 %) than men. Furthermore, these self-immolation incidents are often impulsive (64.1 %) and occur shortly (under an hour) after experiencing a stressor (39.1 %). Self-immolation accidents are frequently carried out using gasoline (50 %). Geographically, the majority of self-immolation cases of our study are concentrated in the central region of Iran (76.6 %), followed by the western region (15.6 %) this may be due to the proximity of these regions to our center while patients of other regions were hospitalized in their referral hospitals and were rarely transferred to the capital. To effectively address the issue of self-immolation and reduce its prevalence, it is essential to identify vulnerable populations and explore targeted preventive measures. Based on our findings, future pilot studies could investigate the feasibility of specific interventions, such as crisis hotlines to reduce impulsivity-related acts of self-immolation. Soybean is a critical source of food, protein and oil, and thus has received extensive research aimed at enhancing their yield, refining cultivation practices, and advancing soybean breeding techniques. Within this context, soybean pod counting plays an essential role in understanding and optimizing production. Despite recent advancements, the development of a robust pod-counting algorithm capable of performing effectively in real-field conditions remains a significant challenge This paper presents a pioneering work of accurate soybean pod counting utilizing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images captured from actual soybean fields in Michigan, USA. Specifically, this paper presents SoybeanNet, a novel point-based counting network that harnesses powerful transformer backbones for simultaneous soybean pod counting and localization with high accuracy. In addition, a new dataset of UAV-acquired images for soybean pod counting was created and open-sourced, consisting of 113 drone images with more than 260k manually annotated soybean pods captured under natural lighting conditions. Through comprehensive evaluations, SoybeanNet demonstrates superior performance over five state-of-the-art approaches when tested on the collected images. Remarkably, SoybeanNet achieves a counting accuracy of 84.51% when tested on the testing dataset, attesting to its efficacy in real-world scenarios. These days' smart buildings have high intensive information and massive operational parameters, not only extensive power consumption. With the development of computation capability and future 5 G, the ACP theory(i.e., artificial systems,computational experiments, and parallel computing) will play a much more crucial role in modeling and control of complex systems like commercial and academic buildings. The necessity of making accurate predictions of energy consumption out of a large number of operational parameters has become a crucial problem in smart buildings. Previous attempts have been made to seek energy consumption predictions based on historical data in buildings. However, there are still questions about parallel building consumption prediction mechanism using a large number of operational parameters. This article proposes a novel hybrid deep learning prediction approach that utilizes long short-term memory as an encoder and gated recurrent unit as a decoder in conjunction with ACP theory. The proposed approach is tested and validated by real-world dataset, and the results outperformed traditional predictive models compared in this paper.

In this paper, we examine the synchronization problem in nonlinearly-coupled multi-weighted complex networks that contain uncertainties and varying delays. The complexities of these networks arise from the presence of both internal time-varying delays and multiple coupling time-varying delays. To address this challenge, we employ impulsive pinning control schemes and incorporate the impulsive pinning control ratio in the construction of the Lyapunov function, which allows us to determine the optimal number of pinned nodes at each pulse instant. Our analysis, based on stability theory, provides synchronization criteria that are strongly dependent on the multi-weights and time delays present in the network. Finally, we present numerical simulations of a delayed complex network to demonstrate the validity and efficacy of our derived theoretical results. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
