Ovarian cancer (OVC) is one of the deadliest cancers in women. At present, effective clinical therapy for OVC is still limited. We adopted a computational method to identify OVC candidate genes based on subnetwork extraction algorithm in the protein interaction network. Of the final identified five genes, MSH3 and PIK3R3 genes have been reported to be implicated in OVC tumorigenesis, indicating that the method is effective, whereas the other three genes (MAPK8IP1, PICK1, and IQGAP3) might have potential roles in OVC development. The results provided a novel insight into identifying the OVC-related genes and exploring new methods for OVC therapy. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

In this paper, we investigate a typical clustering technology, namely, Gaussian mixture model (GMM)-based approach, for user interest prediction in social networks. The establishment of the model follows the following process: collect dataset from 4613 users and more than 16 million messages from Sina Weibo, obtain each user's interest eigenvalue sequence and establish GMM model to clustering users. In theory and experiment, this approach is feasible. The GMM-based approach considers the prediction accuracy and consuming time. A series of experiments are conducted to validate the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed solution and whether it can achieve a higher accuracy of prediction compared with other approaches, such as SVM and K-means. Further experiments show that GMM-based approach could produce higher prediction accuracy of 93.9%, thus leveraging computation complexity.

Astrocytes have potential to break synchrony between neurons. Authors＇ recent researches reveal that astrocytes vary the synchronization threshold and provide an appropriate feedback control in stabilizing neural activities. In this study, we propose an astrocyte-inspired controller for desynchronization of two coupled limit-cycle oscillators as a minimal network model. The design procedure consists of two parts. First, based on the astrocyte model, the structure of the dynamic controller is suggested. Then, to have an emcient controller, parameters of controller are tuned through an optimization algo- rithm. The proposed bio-inspired controller takes advantages of three important proper- ties：（1） the controller desynchronizes the oscillators without any undesirable effects （e.g. stopping, annihilating or starting divergent oscillations）; （2） it consumes little effort to preserve the desirable desynchronized state; and （3） the controller is robust with respect to parameters＇ variations. Simulation results reveal the ability of the proposed controller.

The performance of an ad-hoc network is greatly limited by collisions due to hidden terminals. In this paper, we propose a receiver tracking contention (RTC) scheme, which achieves high throughput by allowing the receivers to assist for channel contention. In RTC, link is the basic unit for channel access contention. Specifically, transmitter is used to contend for the channel and receiver is used to announce the potential collision. Based on INT message coding scheme, transmitter and its corresponding receiver can be well coordinated. In such mechanism, hidden terminals are avoided and exposed terminals are encouraged to transmit simultaneously. Based on OFDM modulation, RTC packets several subcarriers as subcontention unit and operates channel contention over multiple subcontention units. Furthermore, each subcontention unit maintains a transmission set, where collision-free links are allowed to merged into the transmission set In this case, the transmission set of subcontention unit can be aggregated after each contention period. When the subcontention unit i is the smallest index of non-empty subcontention unit, the transmission set of unit i will win the channel contention and transmitters of unit i will start to transmit in the following data transmission period. Analysis and simulation results show that RTC achieves a notable throughput gain over Back2f as high as 190% through simulation.

Effective hierarchical routing algorithm for large-scale wireless mobile networks

The growing interest in wireless mobile network techniques has resulted in many routing protocol proposals. The unpredictable motion and the unreliable behavior of mobile nodes is one of the key issues in wireless mobile network. Virtual mobile node (VMN) consists of robust virtual nodes that are both predictable and reliable. Based on VMN, in this paper, we present a hierarchical routing algorithm, i.e., EHRA-WAVE, for large-scale wireless mobile networks. By using mobile WAVE technology, a routing path can be found rapidly between VMNs without accurate topology information. We introduce the routing algorithm and the implementation issues of the proposed EHRA-WAVE routing algorithm. Finally, we evaluate the performance of EHRA-WAVE through experiments, and compare the performance on VMN failure and message delivery ratio using hierarchical and non-hierarchical routing methods. However, due to the large amounts WAVE flooding, EHRA-WAVE results in too large load which would impede the application of the EHRA-WAVE algorithm. Therefore, the further routing protocol focuses on minimizing the number of WAVE using hierarchical structures in large-scale wireless mobile networks. © 2014 Academy Publisher.

Online Social Networks (OSNs) are becoming popular and attracting lots of participants. In OSN based e-commerce platforms, a buyer’s review of a product is one of the most important factors for other buyers’ decision makings. A buyer who provides high quality reviews thus has strong social influence, and can impact a large number of participants’ purchase behaviours in OSNs. However, the dishonest participants can cheat the existing social influence evaluation models by using some typical attacks, like Constant and Camouflage, to obtain fake strong social influence. Therefore, it is significant to accurately evaluate such social influence to recommend the participants who have strong social influences and provide high quality product reviews. In this paper, we propose an Evolutionary-Based Robust Social Influence (EB-RSI) method based on the trust evolutionary models. In our EB-RSI, we propose four influence impact factors in social influence evaluation, i.e., Total Trustworthiness (TT), Fluctuant Trend of Being Advisor (FTBA), Fluctuant Trend of Trustworthiness (FTT) and Trustworthiness Area (TA). They are all significant in the influence evaluation. We conduct experiments onto a real social network dataset Epinions, and validate the effectiveness and robustness of our EB-RSI by comparing with state-of-the-art method, SoCap. The experimental results demonstrate that our EB-RSI can more accurately evaluate participants’ social influence than SoCap. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

We present a combined hardware/software architecture to perform Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling on probabilistic graphical models in a brain-inspired, energy-aware manner. By combining massively-parallel neuromorphic hardware architecture (SpiNNaker) with algorithms we've have developed for the event-based framework employed in SpiNNaker, we achieve large speedups when performing inference as compared to a traditional PC. We present results from two sampling approaches both well suited to the SpiNNaker architecture. Neural sampling, the first of the two approaches relies directly on simulating networks of spiking neurons while the second, Gibb's sampling is more flexible but still takes advantage of the hardware's event-handling capabilities.

This paper established a closed-loop temperature control system for a spatially-separated atomic layer deposition (S-ALD) reactor using generalized predictive control (GPC) algorithm. The GPC-based closed-loop control system rapidly and precisely stabilized the reactor temperature in the presence of thermal field disturbances. Compared with the proportion-integration differentiation (PID) control commonly used for S-ALD, the closed-loop GPC system attenuated reaction temperature oscillations when producing two-element nano-scale thin films. Furthermore, the proposed GPC system demonstrated the superiority in multi-element nano-laminates depositing efficiency by reducing the settling time with a substrate moving between different reactors. electrical and optical properties of films verified the feasibility of the proposed GPC system. Finally, experimental results presented that the microstructure of the deposited ALD nanometer thin film was improved with the developed GPC system, compared with the PID strategy. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a novel stochastic analyzing model for e2e virtualized cloud services using hierarchical Quasi-Birth Death structures (QBDs). We divide the overall virtualized cloud services into three sub-hierarchies, and then, analyze each individual sub-hierarchy using QBDs. Our approach reduces the complexity of performance analysis. Our results are useful to prevent the cloud center from entering unsafe operation, and also reveal practical insights into load balancing and capacity planning for virtualized computing environments. © 2014 IFIP International Federation for Information processing.

This paper studies the containment and group dispersion control for a multi-robot system in the presence of dynamic leaders. Each robot is represented by a doubleintegrator dynamic model and a distributed control algorithm is developed to drive the multi-robot system to follow a group of dynamic leaders with containment and group dispersion behaviors. The effectiveness of the algorithm is then verified on a multi-robot control platform.
