Bi-capon beamforming for MIMO radar based on rank-reduced correlation matrix

A bi-capon beamforming （BCB） algorithm for multi-input multi-output （MIMO） radar is developed on the basis of correlation domain. By vectorizing the echo matrix and its transpose, the conventional capon cost function is transformed into bi-capon quadratic functions. By calculating two lower dimensional weight vectors with sub-matrices of the correlation matrix, BCB can significantly decrease the computational complexity and the requirement of training samples. In the presence of short data records, BCB can achieve better interference suppression performance than fully adaptive capon algorithm. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Evolutionary membrane computing is an important research direction of membrane computing that aims to explore the complex interactions between membrane computing and evolutionary computation. These disciplines are receiving increasing attention. In this paper, an overview of the evolutionary membrane computing state-of-the-art and new results on two established topics in well defined scopes (membrane-inspired evolutionary algorithms and automated design of membrane computing models) are presented. We survey their theoretical developments and applications, sketch the differences between them, and compare the advantages and limitations. © 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

This paper considers reset control systems with output *** present sufficient conditions for the quadratic stability and finite L2 gain ***,the results are extended to piecewise quadratic stability which is much less ***,an iterative algorithm is proposed to design the reset *** the obtained results are given as linear matrix inequalities(LMIs) that can be solved *** examples are given to illustrate the results.

In this paper, we consider the control of large-scale processes with both input and state couplings. A distributed model predictive control(MPC) strategy for tracking based on the reference trajectories is presented. The proposed distributed MPC strategy requires decomposing a large-scale system into several smaller ones and solving convex optimization problems independently. Distributed MPC tracking strategies for unconstrained and constrained processes are presented, respectively. An iterative algorithm is presented to coordinate the distributed MPC controllers. The proposed algorithm is applied to a four-tank process to demonstrate the effectiveness.

Synchronization of neurons plays an important role in vision, movement and memory. However, many neurological disorders such as epilepsies, Parkinson disease and essen- tial tremor are related to excessive synchronization of neurons. In the line of therapy, stimulations to these pathologically synchronized neurons should be capable of breaking synchrony. As the first step of designing an effective stimulation, we consider desynchro- nization problem of coupled limit-cycle oscillators ensemble. First, the desynchronization problem is redefined in a nonlinear output regulation framework. Then, we design an output regulator （stimulation） which forces limit-cycle oscillators to track exogenous sinusoidal references with different phases. The proposed stimulation is robust against variations of oscillators＇ frequencies. Mathematical analysis and simulation results reveal the efficiency of the proposed technique.

For the spatially correlated multiuser MIMO-OFDM channels, the conventional iterative MMSE-SIC detection suffers from a considerable performance loss. In this paper, we use the factor graph framework to design robust detection algorithms by clustering a group of symbols to combat the spatial correlation and using the principle of expectation propagation to improve message passing. Furthermore, as the complexity of detection becomes one of the issues in the design of large-scale multiuser MIMO-OFDM systems, we propose a low-complexity approximate message-passing algorithm by opening the channel transition node, which eliminates the expensive matrix inversions involved in the MMSE-SIC based algorithms. Finally, numerical results are presented to verify the proposed algorithms.

The conventional output regulation problem aims to achieve reference tracking and disturbance rejection while references and disturbances are generated by an autonomous exosystem. When the exosystem is perturbed by an external event, a novel robust perturbed output regulation problem is formulated and solved in this paper. The formulation arises from a kind of synchronization problem of multiple agents. Hence, the proposed solution leads to a decentralized control algorithm for synchronization of multiple agents with nonlinear heterogeneous dynamics.

Both three dimensional (3D) and multi-view video technologies have made noticeable progress and become more popular in recent years. 3D video expands the user's experience beyond the conventional 2D video by adding the sensation of depth, while multi-view video shows the same scenery from different viewpoints. In both cases, huge amount of data need to be compressed and transmitted, making it challenging to support heterogeneous mobile devices with limited bandwidth and processmg power. Scalable Multi-view Video Coding is one of the main techniques that addresses this challenge by scaling down the video. However, in addition to conventional scalable modalities of temporal, spatial, quality, and complexity in 2D video, SMVC has many more modalities, adding a much higher dimension to the difficult decision making process in the video scalability engine. In this paper, we use Grounded Theory to systematically extract various scalable modalities in multi-view 3D video and we find, in addition to some known modalities, some new modalities specifically for mobile multi-view 3D video. The usefulness of these scalable modalities in applications specific to mobile multi-view 3D video are also shown. Copyright 2013 ACM.

In this paper, we consider novel anycast-based integrated routing protocol (AIRP) to reduce the cost in delay performance of communications in multihop WSNs. Without tight time synchronization or known geographic information, AIRP provides low-delay cost route. We implement a low-overhead AIRP module in TinyOS kernel by modifying BLIP protocol stack, i. e., the Berkeley Low-power IP stack;as demonstrated, this implementation can be incorporated into existing routing protocols with the least effort. We describe the format of AIRP message, the dynamic updating process of MAP table information, and anycast data flow in detail under TinyOS. And then, we present the anycast group management system. Finally, we show the performance of AIRP where AIRP communication is used to distribute load among a set of servers through a study case. © 2013 Binary Information Press.
